The difference between a bass and guitar is what goes on in the musicians mind when playing with the band, as far as what role the instrument plays.. They can both play chords, they can both be played with a pick, they can both solo or play single notes, but a bass line is generally different than a guitar riff in some ways... sometimes they play the same thing, but it affects the band differently because they occupy different places in the sound spectrum. Bass is different.
Contrary to popular belief, the bass guitar and guitar ARE very different. Not note wise, but the deep phat/percussive clanky sounds a bass can make, make it much more playable for grooving. Thats why bassists who do a solo (and aren't grooving) don't keep an audience's attention. The notes and tuning are the same, but the playability is completely different. Just learned this today, through Victor Wooten. Too many bassists try to be guitar players.
Nope, there's absolutely NO difference between a 6-string guitar and a 6-string bass.
Except the bass isn't tuned the same - 2 octaves lower i.e. B-E-A-D-G-B as opposed to E-A-D-G-B-E.
Plus you wouldn't "normally" play it with a plectrum. And you wouldn't normally strum it either. Nor would you be able to sing while playing it (try it and see) so you wouldn't be able to front a band with it unless you were awesome, like Sting or Mark King or John Idan.
@joemac92 the bass is a guitar too, dont forget it... there is various kinds of guitar like baritone, bass, lead, acoustic, etc... and number of strings doesnt matter, ive seen 12 strings basses, and 4 stringed baritones... so dont talk shit, pal...
@joemac92 the difference is that a bass guitar 1 or 2 octaves lower is.. -.- otherwise there would be no difference between a 6string bass and an guitar : )
I've got two suggestions, you're playing the right notes but you don't have the reggae sound and feel down entirely. Turn up your lows to get a deeper bass sound and so you don't get as much fret buzz. Also you're playing very metronomically, try to lay back into the beat more to achieve a better reggae feel. keep at it!
incredibly nice bass terribly awlful sound

lowest tuned to a C huh? yah. wateva. Standard tuning is B. But you can make it C or even A if you want. I promise I won't tell.
MrAndrevdS 3 months ago
@MrAndrevdS he was referring to the highest, and he was right, standard tuning is B-E-A-D-G-C

@MrAndrevdS 1st string usually means highest, not lowest.. as in pitch.. His thickest string is tuned to a B I think.

Other than that, they're identical.

@MrAndrevdS Yes but you know how Sting and mark king and John Idan became awesome? They practiced their asses off. Nobody's born awesome.
