Beautiful animation. As someone who recently went through depression and agoraphobia herself, it really spoke to me.

This plays out a lot like social anxiety and depression:

The woman has separated herself from everyone else, but she still nurtures a spark of hope (the cat) that keeps her going. After a while she stops caring for hope as much, convincing herself more and more that she actually is separate, taking care of hope only on the surface. After a while of this treatment, hope runs out completely, and when she realizes that, it gives her a wake-up call to seek help (the boy).

The way I interpreted it before I read the description was that her son had died, and soon after so did she, but remained as a ghost, afraid to leave into the afterlife for fear of abandoning her cat.
