  • thx i gots my vid 4 skool

    (8(|) <= homer (lol)

  • now do cesium

  • we done this at school today, we started off with a tiny bit, then we kept getting bigger and bigger, it was in a glass bowl, there was like a 2x2x2 cm peice, we put it in and every1 shat themselves and the bowl shattered! LMFAO it was so funny!

  • cLICK ON THE 20 SECOND MARK.

  • lol i have school project i have to do on Potassium, thats how i found this video. :) that was cool!

  • awesome explosion!!!!!!

  • i got hurt doing sodium explosion. the sodium went bang then HOT liquid sodium sprayed on my arm. yow.

  • i love how the bucket just bounces up in the air like that!

  • where can u buy potassium

  • @jaguarclaw

    this is potassium metal.

in banas, there are potassium ions (K+).

if you put potassium metal into water, you get potassium ions (also OH- and H2, which explodes).

  • yeah better stop eating them dont want to explode

  • lol we did this in the lab at school when I was a kid, mercury is another entertaining substance all kinda dangerous tho lol.

  • the fun stuff is ALWAYS dangerous... that's why it's fun.... my high school science teacher taught us how to make Nitrogen Tri-Iodide.... pretty fun stuff....

  • we can't do this at school, because when they did it before, the bowl exploded!

  • @SapphireLovesTheSea At my school my teacher made a lump of potassium and sodium and threw it in a container. Talk about ear rape. It's a really loud explosion.

  • Where can you get potassium chunks of metal!!?? I want to have a little science experiment.......does anyone know??

  • b4 u do the experiment make sure you ware a glouse to protect ur hands and also cover ur eyes because K is the most reactive element.vigarous reaction occur its very dangerous, refer the reactivity series if ur not sure

  • I love his safety shoes !

  • Bananas are an excellent source of-*BOOM*

  • meeeooow

  • The bucket jumped!

  • BOOOOOM!!!

  • For all you non-Chemists: The reaction of potassium metal with water proudces potassium hydroxide (a very strong base) and hydrogen gas. The reaction is so exothermic (hot) the hydrogen produced instanly explodes. I have made solutions of alkoxide bases for chemistry labs and it is by far the greatest thing about being a TA for a chem lab.

  • @keruhl238 your point is????

  • What about potassium and concentrated HCL Nitrate acid, sulfuric acid

  • My science teacher did this in 6th grade, and it blew out a celing tile

  • lol i know why the bucket shit its self that happaned in my school but it was tiny the potassium

  • potassium reacts with everything

  • does it react with oxygen? no, you fail

  • It does.

  • yes, if u leave it

  • well, obviously right?

    But the reaction depends.

It doesn't make a huge explosion with Sodium now does it?

  • u could c the bucket jump

  • The explosion is caused by the adding of potassium to the bucket.

  • that was cool.

    even the bucket jumped

  • yeah that was awesome

  • Your comment was "DUH!!!" and now you can't even find it.

    DUH!!!

  • wow, your nice

  • koh is a good fertilizer for your pot plant ,,,,, in very small small small amount

  • Try to ask traders via ebay...in contrast to germany, possession of pure potassium is not illegal as far as i know.

bad luck that i live in germany.

  • Where do you get solid potassium?

  • the explosion is kinda caused by potasium reacting with water...

so without the water there wouldnt be an explosion :-)

  • Why does pottasium explode when it come in contact with water?

  • the reaction produce KOH and generate a product with a low energy, the remanence energy is that make's boom

  • um the potassium replaces the hydrogen in the water the hydrogen gas needs to escape causing the explosion and then you have potassiumoxide left

  • my bad i mean pottasium hydrate i think its called is what left

  • potassium is an alkali metal, which only has 1 valence electron, making it very reactive, it reacts violently with water, so if you were to hold it, it will react in your hand.

also, the reaction separates the oxygen and hydrogen in the water, and hydrogen is very explosive. If he had an open flame near the explosion, BOOM

  • I've done that with NITRIC ACID, dude ^_^

  • Dude: 1) safety goggles and 2) shoes!

  • why safety goggles when he has glasses? and he's in a controlled enviorment why would he need shoes

  • glasses don't protect your eyes nearly as well as goggles and he should wear shoes becuase the water blown out by the explosion would have KOH, a caustic base in it, so he could get chemical burns.

  • lol omg wen they played it in slow motion it sounded like someone was mooing. with all that water the explosion would have been little but I guess its better to be safe then sorry

  • the explosion is kinda caused by potasium reacting with water...

so without the water there wouldnt be an explosion :-)

  • some ones proble told you this but potassium is a alkaly metal , meaning it reacts with water to make large amounts of hydrogen that is hot so it catches on fire and explodes , eg no water no explosion

  • I know, it does sound like someone's mooing. Lol.

  • lol u guys r probably unaware of the H2 :p

  • bananas have potassium in them?

  • Ionic potassium, which has completely different properties than the elemental form.

  • See, this is why people don't wash bananas before they eat them

  • lol

  • that was dangerous cause the potassium reaction makes potassium hydroxide, which has a pH of like 14 or 15 and if it splashed on him, it might have been more interesting than the explosion

  • well, there was a lot of water there, so the base would have probably had a really low molarity. But still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to be safe

  • nice man seeing as PH only goes to 14 lol

  • there is no such thing as ph... only h3O+

  • Pretty much anyone can get potassium on the internet.

  • The last time I checkd, a few years ago, caesium was about the same price as gold, $11/g, at least in bulk.

    Get some Cs-137. :D

  • dosent make it any less stupid....

  • idiots, have you any idea how dangerous that is? What would you do if that exploded in your face? Wheres you eye protection?

  • He is wearing eye protection... watch the first seconds

  • woah where'd you get potassium?

  • Khazakstan is #1 exporter of potassium.

  • You got that from the Kazakh national anthem in Borat right?

  • Too bad francium has a half life of 22 minutes and about the second rarest material in the world, while cesium is about $30 a gram. Otherwise it would look very interesting.

  • not bad maybe try cesium next lmao :P or how about francium ahhahahaha

  • woah! what would happen if you threw a brick of that stuff in a pool. o_o roflcopter

  • Spiffy.
