And so for 25 years, Tilikum has been swimming in circles, in a space that is said to be the equivalent of keeping a human being confined in a bathtub. He has lived a lonely, stressful, and mentally debilitating life. Its no wonder he has snapped and killed three humans. This was not an accident. It was a calculated risk that SeaWorld took, looking at their bottom line, their quarterly profits. This is criminal negligence. This is not an isolated incident. -Ric O'Barry
Idea: Has anyone considered a petition to free this poor enslaved whale? "Willy" was freed. Maybe, the whale needs to learn to say "no" to their commands.
Thanks Joe for all that you do. I've also swam with dolphins and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life (and I wasn't breaking any "Laws"). The whale needs to be free - it is his/her right - it is most likely in anguish and very angry for being a prisoner and for being treated so disrespectfully. I never consider attending these places. Zoos even depress me. I feel sorry for the whale AND for the trainer. What a negative situation that could have been/can be avoided.
it may not be a negative situation, if i were a trainer i would only be doing that out of the deepst love and respect for these ebings of such joy and ancient love and if i were a trainer who wanted to make the ultimate demonstration of respecta and love what better "way to go" than in service to the message of freedom? like so many soldiers who die for their mates that we glorify...is there any difference here?
Thank you. Thank you very much. Finally someone who speaks sense. It's just a shame that some of these whales won't ever be able to released into the wild.
There will be no respect, there be will no peace, there will be no rest until sea world is shut down, and all owners and trainers are put on trail for the brutality agianst these animals.
My sympthay lies with the whale and NOT the trainer. I condem sea world for acts of brutality against all animals held of captivity. I condem all people who pay to watch these shows and who should be shot for their ignorance.
Thank you for speaking out on this issue...wise words!
To me, it is terrible that these parks make huge profits while these intelligent animals are caged. Humans need to realign with love and respect with all animals...we treat them so poorly in my opinion it breaks my heart!
Well said, Joe! All animals have a right to be free. It is God-given.
I'm also opposed to not allowing pets to leave the house, and what's worse is that some people mutilate these animals, and it's all done in the name of their own good. That's the insane part.
Somday, people will look back at the way we treat animals the same way we look back on the slavery era.
thank you for taking such a strong stand...i couldn't agree with you more! let people learn to respect nature, if they can't already, from such valuable videos like yours.
This a a wonderful and loving message. I recently took my nephew to the Miami Sea Aquarium and left depressed by imagining living for years under the condition they keep these marine mammals there. I am sure that type of captivity would have driven me insane way before. Thanks for this vid!
Koudos to you! If he killed once, they should have let him go. It was a sign of him wanting to be free. Not all wild animals can be or are willing to be tamed. Look at the signs!
I think the most loving and respectful thing that we can do for these beautiful creatures that we are fortunate enough to be sharing the planet with is to NOT keep them in captivity for the sake of "entertainment".

Ric O'Barry's comment above is an excellent summary of the situation; it comes down to economics and basic greed.

All animals must be in their natural habitat and not in jail that enrich a few

Great words, Joe!! Those whales do not belong in an amusement park! Plain and simple!

All is well. The whale knows that there is no such thing as death, and so did the trainer on some level.

All we can do is never attend these places. If they do not get money they stop creating this type of "entertainment"

Agreed! Most people have no idea of the deprivation these creatures endure.

People reported that he was acting agitated prior to the event and wouldn't do the tricks he was 'commanded' to do. He gave plenty of signs...
