My question was/ is was everything Kent said made up or most? Was he Soze pretending to be Kobayashi? Thats what I love about this movie, no matter how many times you watch it, it still leaves dozens of unanswerd questions behind.
I should have done it years back before the security got set so high; but I wanted to dress up in a black suit and a limo drivers hat, holding a sign reading "Keyser Soze". then going to the information desk, having that name paged in the airport. Can you imagine? But in this day and age...I would never consider doing it! I bet you could face jail time for something like that.
@EricBBrandon1 I doubt it, you could say you were hired to look for someone who called themselves Keyser Soze. There is nothing even remotely illegal about that.
It could go so many ways--Verbal Kint was, after all, a confidence man, a man adept at lies. He could have made the whole thing up. But I prefer to think of him as Keyser. There's a subtle clue I haven't seen mentioned here: after the lineup, he stands there smoking, looking at Keaton. Didn't he hold his cigarette in that eastern European way, underfingered? He certainly does later, when Kujan recounts the line-up. He does it, too, with Kobayashi at the end. A small clue I latched onto.
@marginallymental There's a much larger clue: At the end Kint's limp goes away...he's then seen in a shot, the black jacket, gold watch, and gold lighter. The same as the scene where Keaton is shot and killed.
umm good description of keyser soze, but umm, the guy he lets go has a gun and lets his partners get shot? wut a stupid ass movie, lol, boom he shoots his partner, boom i shooot you in the fucking head.
@TH1RSTT See, if he lets the last guy go back to his masters with his tail between his legs, the Hungarians will know Keyser Soze's not afraid of them, and the story he tells will get him greater reputation. If he just shot the gimp, they would have sent MORE guys after him. It's called "thinking strategically."
Why doesn't he have an accent? Ok that is a nitpick since of course they hired an American actor to play the part but do they really expect us to believe that a criminal, even a mastermind, had the time, resources, and inclination to master the English sound system in his spear time? As a linguist I just don't buy it. If you learn English after the age of 9 you will always have an accent, there is no way around it. You can hide it, in some cases well but it will never go away.
I suppose that makes sense since the whole movie was a lie. It is frustrating though to know that not even the Soze stuff was true. However, it was hungarians who wanted him dead. It is just so frustrating to know that you can't believe anything in the movie. It really is hare maintaining suspension of disbelief long enough to enjoy this for a second watch through.
my problem is that I'm speaking about a fantasy character and you react as if I'm talking about a real person...that is irritating and...yeah, it's irritating - mostly because YOU think YOU'RE the one being smart...when in reality I'm laughing.
Is the whole story true except for the names? Is Keyser Soze a false name? Is anything Verbal says true? Was the whole movie made up on the spot? The world may never now, but one thing remains wither you call him Roger "Verbal" Kint, or Keyser Soze he is one bad-ass dude.
Soze is Verbal. You need the will to do what other wouldn't. How many people have will to sit down and confess to murders and robberies. IMO the whole story is true, except he changes the names. Remember his whole story checked out. The only part that is a lie is the boat part where claims he saw the man in the trench coat.
Therefore, Verbal Kint aka Keyser Soze had been able to travel and conduct business in locations such as the States, Ireland and Pakistan virtually being undetected and with diplomatic privelegies...
This film definetly has one of the best stories and plots I have ever seen, but most importantly not only does the bad guy win, but the film has an open ending with various possibilities for sequels...
Just a shame they haven't come up with any in the 15 years since this original was made...
Addititionally, according to the story Keyser Soze told the the detectives that the "lawyer" "Kobayashi" who's name was also an alias, had arranged for the 4 other guys to be detained, this suggests that this "lawyer" had significant influence, so that "Verbal Kint" aka "Keyser Soze" had total immunity, which is generally granted mainly to individuals who enter a country under official duties on behalf of a government that provides them with diplomatic immunity !
Furthermore, while being questioned he tells the story of Keyser Soze and his days in Turkey and also how his name had a reputation when he conducted his illegal business in the streets, but he may have used another alias for his documents to enter the States ... that could be why the cops didn't have a clue about who Keyser Soze was until they hear the story ...
Verbal Kint was the alias used by Keyser Soze to mislead the 4 other guys to get on the big boat at the beggining and he used the name to mislead the cops from finding out that the guy they're looking for is actually sitting in front of them ...
So then,I think it was Verbal Kint, who was Keyser Soze& Kobayashi, was his Lawyer& cheif henchman, like the skull was the cheif henchman,of the drug baron, that Tony Montana, doublecrossed in Scarface.
I believe the killings on board the cargo ship,at the end were done by Verbal Kint&by the lawyer, too.Kint possibly shot the guy through the stomach, when he looked inside the one of the crates,in the van.The lawyer snuck on board and shot dead the guy locked-up in the room,Baldwins character&finally Keaton, several times. Its a film that makes anyone wonder that either Verbal or the lawyer, could be Soze. The lawyer killed, those, who verbal wasn't near,I believe.
@MarineAqua45 what makes you think Kobayashi was really a lawyer? The only place it mentions him being a lawyer is in Kint's story, which he pretty much completely made up. it was Verbal Kint who was Keyser Soze as the injured guy in the hospital discibed Verbal Kint to the cops as a man who was 'killing many men'
Tough movie to figure out. But I think Kobayashi was Keyser, and Verbal was his assistant. If Verbal was Keyser, he would not have allowed himself to be in police custody -- he let himself be caught.
Keyser Söze is a Turk, he said SOME SAY his father was German, but people are thinking that because of his name, Keyser is a Turkish name, but people are thinking abaut Keiser, but it's not true, KEYSER SOZE IS A TURK
One of the best movies albeit contrived. Soze could have been any one. There was no way to know for sure until the end. Even in the end, all you know is that Verbal doesn't have CP and some Hungarian thinks he is Soze. Who's to say for sure? Writer/Director says Soze is Verbal. The entire movie was just a story that Verbal made up in the office. I think only facts are: arrests, line up, Edie in CA, Verbal arrested, Hungarian says Verbal is Soze. What else do you know for sure?
Yet the question remains: Is Verbal Kint Keyser Soze...Or is Keyser Soze Verbal Kint? This is where the mystery really lies. Keyser Söze is described by Verbal as being of mixed Turkish/German heritage. "Söze" is Turkish for "talks too much," or "verbal." "Keyser" sounds like the German word "Kaiser," meaning "emperor," while "Kint" sounds like "king." Director Bryan Singer has referred to the name as essentially meaning "The king that talks too much."
I've never really been able to explain the movie, either. Obviously Spacey's character wasn't who he appeared to be, but who was he, really? Perhaps Kobayashi was Keyser Soze, or there never really was a Keyser Soze, or there never really was a Verbal. And who was it who was pulling the strings to grant Verbal immunity? The simplest explanation is that Verbal was an assassin who was hired to kill the Suspects plus the informant on the ship, and to put the blame on Keaton.
Good call. I never looked at Kobayashi being Soze b4. But I'd still have to say it was Verbal bassed on the fax received at the end. What throws me off is that verbal shot the guy in the head with his right hand but Soze shoots with his left hand. Then Soze lights his cigerette with his right hand yet Verbal in the end lights his with his left hand. Man, what a great film, a real mind game. But also, Spacey walked with such a cool swager in the end, he had to be the man.
@THEFIRSTAVENGERUSA Neither exist, Verbal/Keyser are Roger. I've pondered whether Keyser's story is bullshit or not, but I have no real evidence to support the idea that Keyser never killed his whole family or did the rest of the stuff that made him a legend.
Best clue, though? Barbershop quartet, Skokie, IL. Anyone who had Quartet chalkboards in their classrooms growing up knew he was full of shit right there and then.
Moses saw Keyser and immediately he recognised him as a man of God (in a Saint or Ascended being kind of way) He asks if he could befriend him in his journey. Keyser answers "you can not bear to be my friend". In the end they become friends and Keyser does things that seem evil or wrong. Moses cannot comprehend. Keyser explains how what he does will lead to greater good and time is not a river but a lake.
It is believed that Keyser makes himself look like a young and handsome man with white beard and mustache or a very old man and comes to aid of those people that believe in God and he helps them when it's needed most. Sometimes he asks for water, a piece of bread if you help him, he rewards you with happiness. There are other stories which tells of his ways which humans can't comprehend.
Keyser is an ancient Turkic belief. He is known as Hızır, Keser, Kevser, Jeyser, Keder throughout the Turkic nations from East Asia to Europe. He is a legend prophet and there are tens of thousands of stories about him. He was combined with God (Tengri) by Konstantine and made a new deity which combined God and human which led to today's Christianity.
The old man sitting inside of the boat said he saw Keyser, which is Verbal. After all Verbal was the only person on the boat that is expected to be Keyser.
Once you speak four languages you may make some mistakes here and then. Hahaha, get a life, besides a director has a responsipility, I dont (especially not on youtube)
Nonetheless, Its still amazing how many mistakes these guys in Hollywood make. It isnt the first movie where they fuck up things, misspell names or mention wrong facts about countries. Its just fucking laziness, wouldnt happen if they would research but then again, there are good directors out there.
it is Keyser Soze as I read it in the little magazine you get in MGM DVD's. The mag is called "the big cat" and in the mag one of the lines it uses to "big up" the movie is as follows: " the legend of Keyser Soze will have you glued to your seat!"
Just thought I'd clear it up. Although before I read "the big cat" I thought it was Kaiser because in the film Verbal/soze says that some ppl think hes half german or turkish when explainin about Keyser and as we all know german for king= Kaiser
you are right that Kaiser would be the correct spelling BUT the bottum line is that in the movie it IS spelled Keyser!! read the scene titles on the back or watch it with subtitles. If you were a true fan of the movie you should know this already and if your not then why are you waisting your time debating?
Right, they have been lots of misspellings in Hollywood just because these people are dumb enough to take whatever they get. And by the way Soeze is Hungarian and in the movie they say that he may be a Turkish German guy..... lots of mistakes done by the Director. Nonetheless, the movie is a masterpiece.
yes but it seems you may have a problem with spelling as well, or your grammer at least! but everyone makes mistakes right? ahahahaha just to give you a different perspective, did it ever accure to you they did that on purpose? and JUST SO YOU KNOW the director wanted you to be confused by the german/turkish/hungarian conversation. thinkoutside the box, not inside the textbooks
listen just for the purpose of this movie his name is :Keyser Soze ,, but to be honest i really dont give a fuck anymore call him : Keyhol Shitplug for all i care....
i love it when he called it a spookstory for kids."i dont believe in god, but im afraid of him"...well i believe in god, and the only thing that scares me is keyser soze.
I completely agree. I hate that I didn't see it in the theater when it was released. I was a senior in high school. I will watch this film over and over again and it's always just as good. It's get better every time.
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist...and as simple as that...he's gone" I've been looking this phrase for years...wow it's really amazing because it shows the truth of life. Unlike what many believe, some times telling the truth and being honest will only lead you to your own ruin; therefore, I guess sometimes we need to say exactly what ppl want to hear.
it must made the second part of the ususal suspects, but the story must be just about Keyser Söze, and Q. Tarantino and R. Rodriguez must be the directors
At first I thought the guy who killed Keaton in the beginning was one of the cops. But when Keyser Soze was introduced, I instantly guessed that Verbal was Soze. Or at the very least, his limp was an act.
The best supporting acting by an actor in a under budget film, together with Willem Dafoe for Shadow of the Vampire, Alec Baldwin for The Cooler and Ben Kingsley for Sexy Beast.
long story short...don't fuck with Turks!

Its just fucking laziness, wouldnt happen if they would research but then again, there are good directors out there.

"Kaiser" not Keyser
it was a cool movie, but i saw the twist coming =/

IT IS KEYSER not KAISER
feris33 2 years ago
no.
ToLiveIsToDie1990 2 years ago
it is Keyser Soze as I read it in the little magazine you get in MGM DVD's. The mag is called "the big cat" and in the mag one of the lines it uses to "big up" the movie is as follows: " the legend of Keyser Soze will have you glued to your seat!"
Just thought I'd clear it up. Although before I read "the big cat" I thought it was Kaiser because in the film Verbal/soze says that some ppl think hes half german or turkish when explainin about Keyser and as we all know german for king= Kaiser
dragonkilla7 2 years ago
Yes Kaiser is also a name in Germany and since "some believe his father was German" his name is Kaiser Soze.
Vlasti79 2 years ago
Keyser is a mutated english name for Kaiser. Keyser is a non existing name.
Vlasti79 2 years ago 3
you are right that Kaiser would be the correct spelling BUT the bottum line is that in the movie it IS spelled Keyser!! read the scene titles on the back or watch it with subtitles. If you were a true fan of the movie you should know this already and if your not then why are you waisting your time debating?
TrishaNicole5888 2 years ago
Right, they have been lots of misspellings in Hollywood just because these people are dumb enough to take whatever they get. And by the way Soeze is Hungarian and in the movie they say that he may be a Turkish German guy..... lots of mistakes done by the Director. Nonetheless, the movie is a masterpiece.
Vlasti79 2 years ago
yes but it seems you may have a problem with spelling as well, or your grammer at least! but everyone makes mistakes right? ahahahaha just to give you a different perspective, did it ever accure to you they did that on purpose? and JUST SO YOU KNOW the director wanted you to be confused by the german/turkish/hungarian conversation. thinkoutside the box, not inside the textbooks
TrishaNicole5888 2 years ago
Think outside the box :-Dude I know what the director tried to do, dont worry :-) He just did a mistake and mixed up things!!!

I think this is one of the best scenes of the movie. The Usual Suspects was great. Kevin Spacey deserved that Oscar. :)

What do you mean? Didn't you know he won an Oscar for best supporting role for his role as Verbal Kint? This is how he got his career skyrocketed!

Rodriguez must be the directors
kontragerilla 4 years ago
At first I thought the guy who killed Keaton in the beginning was one of the cops. But when Keyser Soze was introduced, I instantly guessed that Verbal was Soze. Or at the very least, his limp was an act.
This movie was the best all in all.

The best supporting acting by an actor in a under budget film, together with Willem Dafoe for Shadow of the Vampire, Alec Baldwin for The Cooler and Ben Kingsley for Sexy Beast.
I mean... The role of Kevin Spacey.
