i agree! i shoot concerts/shows all the time, and these tips are extremely useful! i've seen a few more of your videos, and i really like your drawings in them along with your wealth of information and brevity. bravo herr zelbel!
I really enjoy your videos! I disagree that you should just stick to one type of tutorial. While you obviously excel at the beauty photography, your talent applies well in other areas too. I think that you wanting to branch out into other areas helps to add more dimensions to someone's experience, even if it isn't going to be their main focus.
this really helps me out! can you recommend a speedlight for my camera? I actually just own a camera and have been shooting in RAW format and been doing alot of editing afterwards. I own a canon rebel xsi, and Im looking for a cheaper speedlight or flash that I can also use for beauty photography.
I love doing band photography so it was wonderful seeing a tutorial! thankyou!
I really enjoy your vids. I like to see a variety, but as your strength is obviously beauty stuff I like to see more of those in comparison to other stuff. I got some great tips here I hadn't thought of before for concert stuff. Thanks a lot.
nice little trick to use a voice activated light stand! now I just need an assistant (friend) willing to hold a speedlight the entire show! Another option could be to use bungie cords to secure the light (or multiple lights) to pillars before the show.
Thank you for this vid you have good advice again. as much as I love watching your pod cast and learning I think you are on to a good thing here, Its good to look at other types of photography. pls do more but I still love your other stuff.. A1
yes Michael, I like this type of tutorial. In fact, I would like to see you cover as many different types of photography as possible. Your advice is always well received.
awesome! i work at a local club and almost always shoot in low-light situations... i never realized that using speedlights that way can help enhance images (not appear flat)... i detest on-board flash sooo much!!!
Awesome, just the type of tips I have been looking for. I love your other videos too so don't stop making those. How about taking some promo pictures for a band? That would be a nice tutorial. Thank you for all your great videos, I have learned a lot and found inspiration in them all.
Really enjoyed this one Michael, concerts is what I primarily shoot, both in large accredited venues and small bars. Just a few added notes. If your shooting @ bars, remember they are there for the fans, stay low and out of the way if possible. Second, can't always even use a speed light, and your stuck with their big ugly red light - so you need to master your manual mode. Nice video!
That upward shooting angle is really extreme! Great pictures. I've never shot with a flash in a concert, but some of the pictures shown here could use a little more contrast IMHO.
I have a group of friends who asked me to take their band photos and this will help me sooo much because I have never taken photos of a band before, THANKS SO MUCH AGAIN!!
Very good video . i have done photos of about a hundred bands , from local al the way up to the biggest names , when i shoot local bands i RARELY ever use flash! flash kills the mood and alot of the stage lighting! also .in your video you shoulda turned some of your photos B&W band photographs in black and white have so much mood and power to them . Great Video though .
@death2man666 Same for me, I rarely ever use flash (cant at big ones anyway). Sometimes they use those horrid red lights and you have to convert to BW just to save some of them.
@KeelerMediaGroup That is very true . u can take a crappy photo that is blown out cuz of red and turn it into an amazing b&w photo. ive also learned to desturate in camera pretty heavily when doing small shows with bright lights , helps out alot
if i lived in a country where i was not allowed to shoot beautiful females showing a bit of skin, i would move countries! it's just nature to enojoy beauty - of any type :-)
I tried some concert photography. No speedlights though. I find them too distracting for the artist...would like your input though...here is the link..Great videos
Hi Michael, I enjoy all your videos and always learn different ways of accomplishing the shot. I was wondering if you would consider making a video of shooting models outdoors with their back to the sun and the camera facing the sun. Curious how you would set up your speed lights, shutter, and fstop. Thanks and good light.
Good to see this video ... I come to your channel for the beauty/fashion photo setups and tips but find it useful to sometimes see other topics like this and the catalogue photography from your perspective. Good light!
your video very helpful hope u can share more in future
