  • Idk why, but I'm always super inspired whenever it gets to the "tea and mushrooms/early in the autumn" part <3

  • this is so fucking good

  • Some reason, the chorus reminds me of Death cab for cutie

  • maudlin of the Well has the best guitar solos.

  • RETARDED SEXY PICTURE

  • This is so fucking stupid, I just want to delete everything I've posted so this video isn't plagued with pointless arguments.

  • @mobman47 I could help with that....

  • @Spiderpisces haha, yeah, you can delete it if you want to :P. sorry, I got pretty defensive because I <3 motW

  • @mobman47 Christ, I didn't get notified of just how big it got... yeah... I think I should so nothing else starts back, I'll get around to it.

  • @mobman47 Sounds like you guys are lost by the wayside...

  • btw, this vid could use a sexy pic or two

  • Whenever I listen to this song I want to cry because they aren't together anymore and not nearly enough people listen to this kind of beautiful

    music. Its really sad.

  • As seen on: ponychan - oat.

    I can't tell you how hard I lol'd.

  • Damn that chthonic on key growling & so forth. Neither Roger Waters nor Neil Young would approve! ;) Heard this & Secret Song tonight at progarchives.. a lot of good elements... appealing, intriguing... + that adrenalized werewolf, huffing suppressants & trying to express himself /become human /conscience /self-exorcized/ or whatever. (his torment ends about 6:40.) If I bought the album I'd prob cut that section. Actual singer reminds of Dinosaur Jr....the alter ego/ fecund foil for growler boy!

  • I'm so glad there's not some girl in the background. I can't afford to get horny again right now XD

  • 3:05 = pure awesomeness

  • This is freakin amazing! Never heard anything quite like this. Good stuff!

  • Man, if only they could avoid the growls, this song starts out so cool.

  • @KingCrimson776 I didn't used to like them, but I think you get used to them and grow to like them and see that they fit.

  • @KingCrimson776 People are welcome to dislike certain kinds of music, but something that I've always found frustrating is that if you LIKE the beginning of the song, and say you like the ending of the song, can't you LEARN to like the center with the growling? Isn't it possible that you just need it to grow on you, and then you'd understand why even that part of the song meshes perfectly with the rest of it? If you get scared off so easily, your limiting yourself from a lot of great music.

  • @mobman47 I'm not limiting myself by not liking gimmicky vocals that detract from the music. If these guys were truly talented, they could write an adequate composition without resorting to that.

  • @KingCrimson776 You say "resorting" as if they couldn't sing, when clearly they can and it far surpasses "adequate" composition, I wouldn't have this song any other way. This music is a self expression, sorry you can't learn to appreciate it with your limited view (yes, I said it again) on music.

  • @mobman47 lol, if anything is limited it's those growl vox, as the voice can no longer act as a melodic element.

  • @KingCrimson776 Its still rhythmic to the song and the pitch of the growls and screams varies against the chords being played behind them. And metal music has always been highly instrumental, so the growled vocals are a way of maintaining lyrical content without covering the instrumental sections with vocal melodies. I don't even think I need to mention that different vocal styles portray different kinds of emotions.

  • @mobman47 “maintaining lyrical content without covering the instrumental section with vocal melodies.”

It sure isn’t maintaining the discernibility of the words too well. I suppose lines like “but there isn’t enough primrose” aren’t really meant to be paid real close attention to tho. If they seriously think these lyrics matter, then integrate them in a way where we can actually discern them without looking it up, and such that the vocal melodies fit in to the rest of the instruments.

  • @KingCrimson776 I suppose you could argue that if it were in another language that its not discernible and isn't really meant to be paid attention to either. Anyways, I don't know why your being so hostile and close minded about a band which I simply asked if you could at least try to understand where these guys are coming from, but you immediately jumped to the rigid answer of "Oh, no, I know exactly the way music is supposed to sound because clearly I'm a connoisseur in these things"

  • @mobman47 All I did initially was state that the growling killed it for me. Then you come along whining about how you think people should "learn" to like it. That's just pathetic, man. If people say it ruins the music for them, then it does. Don't expect them to sit there, brow furrowed, trying to "understand" something that sounds like shit to them. I never tried to get you to "learn" to not like this music.

  • @KingCrimson776

If people choose to not understand music, fine. I couldn't care less. But why would they? I personally didn't like this album upon first listen but after months it finally clicked. Now it's my definite all-time favorite album.

  • @limeman2 "choose to not understand". Hey man, why don't you choose to understand Justin Bieber? Don't be so close minded man

  • @KingCrimson776 I won't, because there's nothing to understand. Commercial/pop music isn't created with enough passion to contain any real depth. Now in THIS genre however, I have yet to find something like that.

  • @limeman2 No, you just don't like Justin Bieber. Some people don't like this band. There's nothing to understand here either. It's organized sound in time, some like this combination of notes and timbres, some don't.

  • @KingCrimson776 There's no point in arguing over this. We view music in different ways - you simply dismiss what doesn't make sense to you while I think "If other people can enjoy this - why can't I"? And eventually, I will grow to realize what makes it good. Excuse my awkward english.

  • @limeman2 "Doesn't make sense". No, it sounds like shit (the beginning is fine tho, as I said).

"If other people can enjoy this - why can't I"? Then why not think that about Bieber?

  • @KingCrimson776 because we don't mindlessly like maudlin of the Well the way people mindlessly like beiber or else this video would have more views, duh. Pointless comparison.

  • @mobman47 "we don't mindlessly like maudlin of the Well the way people mindlessly like beiber" <-- Groundless assumption.

Holy shit man, if I want to revisit it later, I will. Don't bitch at me for not liking these vocals. Your pathetic whining is what brought out this "long dead trend". Initially it was just one comment, me stating my opinion. Christ... at least pop fans don't act like it's their duty to "convert" you to their taste.

  • @KingCrimson776 I wasn't trying to convert you to shit, I was just making a suggestion and you got all fucking uppity.

  • @mobman47 No, hoho, no. *You* got all fucking uppity. You decided to unload all your "frustration" at how people can't "learn" to like shit that they hate in a comment to me. What the fuck is that shit. That is not a "suggestion", that is you being a bitch.

  • @KingCrimson776 Yeah, I open with "people are WELCOME TO DISLIKE WHATEVER KINDS OF MUSIC THEY WANT" and then expressed an opinion and a series of questions, not insults or accusations. Your comment you boldly stated as if it were fact, and then you started becoming an arrogant douchebag.

  • @KingCrimson776 Look, when I first started listening death metal I thought it was talentless crap too, but one day I figured "Hey, there's some cool shit going on here..." so I just tried listening to more and you know what? I ended up loving death metal after that. With this band I also didn't make the immediate connection to what I was listening to. What I was trying to tell you in my first post was that perhaps this could be a band that you love and you just haven't given them a chance yet.

  • @mobman47 I have heard cool bits in stuff like this too. In fact, I think there are salvageable parts even within the grunty parts of this piece (not the grunts themselves tho). Let me just make it clear that I *have* given this band, death metal, and all kinds of shit many chances before.

Don't worry about the pointless argument, we are giving these guys views and comments after all, which I don't mind doing. I think what I've heard from Part the Second is better, definitely less grunting.

  • @KingCrimson776 Well I'm glad we've come to a mutual understanding of one another then :), sorry for all the harsh things I said, I believe this is mostly at the fault of misunderstanding/misinterpretation of posts. And yes, Part the Second is amazing from beginning to end.

  • @KingCrimson776 by the way, thanks for bringing a long fucking dead trend onto one of my favorite maudlin of the Well songs.

  • @limeman2 exactly! that's what I'm trying to tell this guy, I'm trying to help nudge him towards a direction in music that might really click with him upon revisitation but he's choosing to be a fucking dick instead. motW doesn't need those type of people anyways.

  • awesome quality. been craving this song for a long time. thanks for posting.

  • Toby Driver knows what's up vary driven in music and understands what he is doing from MOTW to KAYO DOT I been a fan for years starting with Maudlin the new cd rips nothing like this but I don't care what anyone says this track ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God, I love this song. This is art.

  • Thanks for posting without a sexy picture.

  • @guttermoth I think I'll do some other songs some time.

  • @Spiderpisces Do you ever listen to Kayo Dot?

  • One of their best songs... too bad all of my favourite music reminds me of someone I hate now.

  • Big props to youtube for picking up the 'progressive' tag and linking it with Marilyn Manson. I couldn't think of another artist who has done more to push the boundaries of modern music.

    /sarcasm.

  • @gotmayhem i lold.

  • lol at ke$ha being a rec

  • Hah! wonder how that happened.

  • Ke$ha is just so avant garde, duh. Ranks up there with Quest For Blood and John Zorn.

  • Yeah, serious bullshit right there. But maybe somewhere in the astral plane they are related... polar relatives?

  • When getting crunk is the equivalent to being a multi-instrumentalist, let me know.

  • Haha. Love the description! Thanks for uploading this great song. Favored.

  • Chill...I like this.

  • This songs is so fucking great. Well, for me maudlin of the Well was, is, and will ever be the best band of all time...next to Kayo Dot of course ^_^
