I too think, this thing goes backwards. The hole under the valve is the inlet, so to not waste steam on the bearings too, and to not keep the upper part under unnecessary pressure. Which means if steam comes in from that direction, then it would push the piston in the opposing direction in which it moves now. As of now this thing is working as a compressor. There is nothing wrong with the demo unit, it just needs to be turned in the opposing direction.

@ivankoran because of the gas giants conspiracy camshafts with their energy robbing springs were exactly what they wanted so they could sell more gas and make more money
Old slidevalves tended to be more prone to wear, and had high recoprocating mass, so they had difficulties with high RPM engines. That is why most modern engines uses springloaded valves.

These are fantastic videos. Would be nice if they were longer.

the valve is moving the incorrect direction and injecting steam when the piston is moving in that direction
TheIceychill2 1 year ago
@TheIceychill2 incorrect, you may want to take an other look. The piston is exhausting at the correction position...

how come they dont ever use slide valves in automotive engines?

@TheIceychill2 you know what? that actually makes sense XD
although further research is needed, cuz maybe regular valves would provide better compression; do you think?
ivankoran 1 year ago
@ivankoran i was just joking but nowdays there is very active research in using solenoids to actuate the valves
