I now find annoying the fact that NASA didn't say anything about it before. Not that it would have made things different but, they get trucks of money and when it comes down to informing the public, they just forget about it. This has actually happened several times in recent years. You're right, when they come from the direction of the sun we can't see them coming. Even if we saw them coming what would we do? Did you ever read about the one that hit Siberia? If an asteroid hit and/or exploded above in the atmosphere it would also have an EMP effect that would wipe out all things electric. We'd take a short trip back to the stoneage. I do still worry about Iran though, as well as Russia, Pakistan, India and Obama.

If they find out early enough they can redirect it by a nuclear explosion on 1 side or even a smaller explosion in the case of an asteroid the size of 10story building. The one that hit siberia was probably the size of a bus, hard to detect or they thought it'll just pass by and it actually hit the earth.

The bad news is that if a large one heads toward earth we just have to sit and watch it end our world. It won't even send us to stone age it would vaporize us.

The Tunguska Event, happened in 1908, noone saw it because we lacked the technology, even with technology, if it's coming from the direction of the sun, we can't see it. We can't redirect an asteroid with an explosion, they're traveling too fast for us to hit, and the ramifications of a nuclear explosion in space are unknown.

Siberia was an example, I meant if such an asteroid comes toward earth the scientists probably assume it'll miss the Earth until it's toolate. I'm not sure how fast asteroids travel but man-made shuttle can reach speeds of 20,000mph so I think with some use of radar and computers they can at least cross it somewhere and use an eplosion to redirect it, that's assuming it's only a mile in size and not 10 times the earth itself.

Hesam, If you are refering to the Movie Armegedon, about Asteroids hitting, you might have noticed in first few minutes of movie, New York is demolished, the World Trade Center Buildings are both hit,on in middle and one near top, they are on fire in movie and then some guy yells out "Saddam Hussien is Attacking"! Very interesting how that movie was made in 1999. Well before 911 attack. I wouldn't be suprised if a Meteor Hit was blamed on Iranian Nukes to justify yet another war and cover asses

AR15, imagine, sitting down to dinner and having an asteroid land in your lap. It would "Rock" this world. People would immediately freak out and think Al Qeada let off a bomb. Isn't it about time they turn the spy satelites Up instead of Down? (Oh, I'm sounding like Jack Sparrow now). Up is Down? We'll see if the asteroid does a loop around sun and hits us next time by.
