this is an interesting ride. I Like It! haven't seen a wooden roller coaster like this before. It would had been cooler if they didn't add the steel. Awsome Ride. Wow
@jason63433 they shut it down for an entire year for a 4 million dollar renovation.... it didnt used to have the steel but it was way to bumby and rickety...
when its the night before april 22, im going to go to dallas at 2:00 PM. get hotel there. Arrive at six flags as first visitor. run to the texas giant and be the first to ride, first to be in front, and first dare that I actualy did.
is like the whole structure complete..? cause ive been watching a few povs and like catwalks arent on some parts of the track and it just looks bare..? im not bashing on this AMAZING coaster i was just wondering. if it was done..?
So we've lost a former top 5 wooden coaster and gained an experimental steel coaster with G-trains because Six Flags does not invest the time & money into their wood coasters to keep them running in acceptable (much less good) condition. Tx. Giant for it's first several years was incredible, a personl top 3 for a long time. However, people who shouldn't ride Tx. Giant did & got hurt, SF started many mods, then the normal Six Flags apathy/complacency with wood coasters set in until, viola!
post all the vids you have of this legendary coaster i have been keeping updated on it since the redid it, i wont be out there tommorrow but ill be out there later this year and ill be riding it
I can't wait to go this Saturday! hopefully the incoming cold front won't be too much of a bother. It'd be a disaster if they had to postpone the grand opening of this ride. D:
Those side banked turns look absolutely amazing. The first drop also beat the current record of steepest descent which was held by the T Express wooden coaster in China. That was measured at 77 degrees whereas this new Giant is measuring at 78 degrees. Now they can claim with all f-a-c-t that this is the steepest wooden coaster on the planet.
looks kinda fun, but they way they reshaped some of the hills took away some of the infrastructure or something cause as a whole the ride doesnt look quite as massive as it did before...

Correction; they're adding steel supports to this new steel coaster.
SFOT lost a wooden coaster. Is this now the only Six Flags property with ONE woodie? Oh - I just remembered Great Escape has only one. Anyway...
I'm disappointed they couldn't ditch the long straightaway brake run, but it looks like the magic carpet might have been preserved, at least somewhat.

@jesusisbetter > Actually, Texas Giant will be classified as a hybrid, as it has both steel and wooden structures.

@eblekj no, this ride os going to be sick, the first drop is crazy. this coaster is going to go really fast too

It looks like the revamped Texas Giant will be a nice improvement (in terms of ride experience) to Curtis D. Summers' already great vision.
Do you have any idea why the park was testing the trains with only two cars before?
