@TeaNCrumpets25 He was talking about the shadow next to it. And did anyone notice the Shelby CSX seats in that Daytona? Those seats are extremely rare and were worth $2000 new, now they are near priceless!
Dodge Daytona shelby Z is one of the most underated fastest cars ever built- i had a 1987 turbo2 with intercooler 4 cylinder -and use to beat every car out there, iroc z , mustangs, porche, corvetts, mercedes benz, the only car that gave me a problem was the 944 turbo, that car had a lot of top end but the daytona cost about 3 times less, this car will top out at 150 and its only a 4 cylinder-aint no joke- way ahead of its time,
I believe the Turbo Interceptor was the same motor but 2.2L topped with a Cosworth twin-cam head and twin turbos. Many people have put the 2.4 head (DOHC) onto their Daytona to make a hybrid motor. Incredible power with these heads. Now step up with the twin turbos. I love the 2.2 turbo motors.
The Daytona was offered a V-6 3.0 which was made by Mitsu. The Daytona was great because Dodge wanted to deal with the fuel crisis in a different way. They went with forced air induction. What is great, they offer this fuel efficient 4 banger that gets ok up and go. But then has a stage 1, 2 and 3. The Super 60 kit turned these 2.2s into 300+hp monsters. When you got a Daytona off the lot, is was a detuned engine with lots of potential.
There was a point where the Plymouth Laser was the same as the Dodge Daytona. The Laser was the more optioned out model. I believe the Pacifica became the new Laser shortly after... But, the Laser then passed the badge onto an Eclipse body. It was an odd shift.
yea but the thing is on all new chryslers with the OHC engines is the fact they are made by mitsubishi not chrysler and by the way to clear something up the gmc syclone and typhoon had a 4.3L v6 turbo intercooled not a 4.6
You must be referring to the "GEMA" family of engines. A joint venture between Mitsu, Chrysler and Hyundai. It's no more a Mitsu engine in your dodge as it is a Hyundai engine in your evo.
The specs are left to their respective companies (valve timing, cam profile manifolds, ect)
Common casting and displacement is shared between all companies. The Mitsu engines are cast in Japan, the Hyundai engines are cast in Korea and the Chrysler engines are cast in the US
Actually the 2.0l and 2.4l I4 were developed by Chrysler and Lamborghini, when they were teaming up for formula one in the early 90s. Mitsubishi uses the 2.0/4 block with a reverse head so they can mount it in their cars (the transaxle in Mitsu is on the passenger side, where Dodge is on the driver's side). Mitsu's 2.0l before 1995 were all-mitsu engines.
Dodge uses Dodge engines. The only Mitsu engine they used was a 2.6l in the early 80's (replaced by the 2.5l which is a stroked/bored 2.2l).
@EdSabbath I know this post is old, but Dodge also used a 3.0L V6 for the Shadow (ES?) and the Plymouth Duster in 1992-1994 and some other cars around that time that were Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth.
@sylentmyst Ah, well, I was really just noting four-cylinder engines. But yes, they did use Mitsubishi's 6G72 V6 (which was in Mitsu's pickups, the Eclipse from 95-99, the FTO/3000GT/Stealth, etc.) in the FWD platforms they had at the time. I've had a LeBaron with the engine in it. Leaked oil like hell :/ I love Mitsubishi but that motor is crap. Four-cylinder is where it's at.
@dcskater180 The Eclipse 2nd gen had the 420A unless it was a GS, GS-T or GS-X. Which is a DODGE engine. I suppose the 6G72 was used in the 2000-2005, I knew it was the Spyder models but got the generation wrong. It was also used in the GTS (non-Spyder) from '00-'05 but was more common in the Spyder. And yeah, 4G63/4G63t is the shit. 500HP is easy for them, and I've seen them at 900+ as well. By far my favorite engine.
@EdSabbath I know this is old but Dodge also used a 3.0L V6 from Mitsubishi that was in several of Chrysler's cars. Just to name a few: Chrysler LeBaron, Dodge Shadow (ES?), Plymouth Duster. I may have read it wrong but just wanted to show that they did use another Mitsubishi motor.

mitsubishi made some good engines.I mean look at the 91 GMC typhoon/syclone
with the GM 4.6 l V6 with the mitsu turbo, mitsubishi is probably the best japanese manufacturer out there,as far as reliability.I love the dodge spirit RTs and daytonas, idc what anyone says, the late 80's early 90's super sleepers were some of the best cars ever made, spirit RTs,Mustang SVO,Taurus SHO,GMC Syclone,Lumina Z34,Grand Prix STE,Cutlass 442 quad 4,any Im forgetting?

those are pos i almost laughed when i saw that crappy neon... uhhh dodge sucks those cars have no boost holding capability wut so ever....the bottom ends suck....and as far as that goes dont forget the crappyness of that mitsubishi engine......
I'll race you when you're in my town. All stock bottom end, go ahead and check my videos. It's a Chrysler engine, not a mistu. So, where's the videos of your car, smartass?
just like the cars they were re-badged as chryslers for sale in the u.s. look at mitsubishi's of the same time they have the same engines. look i'm not hating on these cars i luv them but you have to face the facts!!!
The colt, starion, arrow and laser are rebadged mitsus. You're bang on correct there.
The cars in this video have nothing in common with the mitsu cars. Not the same engines either. Not common platforms, build configurations, or drivetrains. The cars in the video are North American made.
I guess I'll be the third person to tell you, Qnickel27, that these are not Mitsubishi. The 2.2 and 2.5L is a Chrysler designed engine, the vehicles were designed in the United States. The computers are also American made. Some models came equipped with Mitsubishi turbochargers, that is about as Japanese as these vehicles get. You may be confusing these vehicles with Talons or Lasers which were a rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse, however those vehicles are still jointly designed Japanese-American.
I really hope your trying to troll this vid lol cause your very VERY misinformed about TD's. These engines are damn near bulletproof, and for boost the 2.2 and 2.5's can take it. Pick a psi, and these engines will take the abuse. T2 8v all the way baby!
NON of these motors are Mitsubishi engines.Chrysler owned 30% of Mitsubishi at one time and the only reason they used their motors was they didn't have enough of their own.
The worst engines by far were the Mitsubishi's especially the 2.0l dual overhead cam interference engine with a timing belt.
No.all these were basically stock Dodge 2.2 liter Turbo Charged 80's Early 90's cars.Including the Hemi he pointed out was the 2.2 engine with a new 4 valve head,First dual overhead cam Dodge intercooled turbo. The only performance cars with the Mitsubishi Turbos were the 90's eclipse/laser or the Stealth/3000gt.But those were not really Dodge cars either and the Eclipse had the terrible 2.0l interference i mentioned.
Just FYI, the Chrysler 2.5L Turbo 1 motors used Mitsubishi turbos, where the others used Garrett .
Cant' really say that the Mitsu 4g63 2.0 is a bad engine though as there are a ton of interference motors that are good, like the later 2.0/2.4L chrysler, Honda B series, etc.
I was talking about engines not turbos specifically.
Any interference belt engine is bad. Most Dodge engines run a time chain on the interference design, not a belt (less likely to break). The 2.0l/2.4l DOHC was an exception, but even those were freewheeling valve to valve collision interference designs only if the cams rotated independently.Less damage than the Mits piston collision resulting in the entire engine replacement everytime it happened. The new 2.4L Dodge has a chain time design.
Any interference belt engine is bad huh? You better be sure to tell all those engineers at Ford, GM, Volvo, Toyota, Mitsubishi, et. al how fucking stupid they are for putting out interference engines with timing belts.
The engineers did a good job. They are told to reduce cost and they design for that purpose, then they match the warranty duration with typical belt life. But most of the manufacturers are now getting away from the design realising how stupid it was themselves. But maybe you could tell why a customer that knows about the problem shouldn't choose a manufacturer that either avoids that design or atleast takes steps to reduce cost in the event of a belt failure ,like simply notching the pistons.
Mitsubishi's 1.4, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.6 liter engines all had hemispherical combustion chambers. In the '70s this was only pointed out in dealer brochures, but in the '80s some vehicles were available with special "HEMI 2.6" badges. The Dodge Spirit was not available with any of the above engines, I don't know what that old guy's talking about.
Except that it's not a Hemi at all. Mr. Garlits made a simple mistake, he probably thought he was walking in front of a Dodge Colt, which were available with engines equipped using hemi heads. Of course, this guy is used to top-fuel dragsters and big-block muscle cars, he probably didn't care to know anything about these FWD "econoboxes."
They are hemi's in the sense that it was a dual overhead cam with canted valves on both sides and the spark plugs in the middle. Many four cylinders are made this way today not specific to Chrysler but the head is not wedge design either.
LOL..what a fagget! Chrysler built them strong! It's mitsubishi that built them motors for chrysler U DUMB FUCK! He needs to get his head out of his ass and the other way too!
i hate to piss anyone off but when he pointed out the hemi if you look closly i thought i saw an flat round air cleaner like the ones on my dads cars i remember as a kid. now i know that rwd conversions can be done if you know what your doing and i googled one with a 440 in it, but those were daytonas. i'm not familiar enough with the spirit/acclaim to know if the engine compartment could hold big block engine so trash me if you want but i thought i saw what i saw.
i stand corrected. later in the vid they show the engine compartment again after a close up of the blue neon. missed that ooops. but pic is to grainy to see details of the engine compartment and i'm not gonna speculate.
Mitsubishi had nothing to do with the design or build of the Turbo 2.2.. It was Shelby who helped Dodge build that engine.. You ignorant piece of shit
you need to do some research.. shelby helped develop the turbo 2.2 and 2.5 engines.. that may be dodge had a model of the daytona called the "shelby z" i have done plenty of research on these little cars.. and have owned a few myself
are you dumb chrysler was around before mitsubhishi motors was even recognized. you drive a lancer. you kno who built the lancer first....hmmm dodge you dumbshit. lol chryslers run good because they are built good. my dads truck is 30 years old and it will kick the shit out of your lancer. no car like a mopar fool bes recognize
"you kno who built the lancer first....hmmm dodge you dumbshit." first lancer, not a dodge, it's a mistubishi. now who's the dumbshit? and, 4 cyl's have been around over 100 yrs. might want to do some research before you go blabbing.
Also a true hemi chamber is large for its design and a large combustion chamber means more heat gets sucked out of the explosion and put into the cooling system. Also a true hemi has no squish area to swirl the a/f on compression resulting in a more incomplete burn. Because of emissions a true hemi chamber isnt used anymore but a pentroof is superior from a emission standpoint and has all the benefits of the hemi valve layout.
Technically, its not a hemi, but the pentroof chambers share a lot of similarities to a hemi head. The main difference is that the head chamber is not a true half-sphere. The valve system is set up to operate like a hemi head though. Large head chamber, lots of a/f going in, lots of spent gas going out.
Externally though, the valve cover has that flat profile with the spark plug right in the middle which is how a hemi head was recognized in the old days.
It was a 4cyl with a hemi head on it. Chrysler even put a rectangular badge on the front fender that said "HEMI". I remember them.
"HEMI" refers to the hemispherical shaped combustion chambers in the head and has nothing to do with the cam setup.
Chrysler has used the HEMI head design on and off since at least the 1950s. If I'm not mistaken the first was a 348cid V-8 and then of course the most famous was the 426.
Wow, he must really know a ton about cars to look at an obvioulsly DOHC engine and call it a "hemi"
From what I've heard of him he may be sort of a car legend, but he's one of those selective a-holes and according to talk on some message boards, he really had to be pleaded to to even talk about those cars on camera.
i wana know where that guy got a strut tower for to fit his car i have a 85 shelby charger and i cant find any to fit

i hate to piss anyone off but when he pointed out the hemi if you look closly i thought i saw an flat round air cleaner like the ones on my dads cars i remember as a kid. now i know that rwd conversions can be done if you know what your doing and i googled one with a 440 in it, but those were daytonas. i'm not familiar enough with the spirit/acclaim to know if the engine compartment could hold big block engine so trash me if you want but i thought i saw what i saw.
dudelabowski6969 3 years ago
i stand corrected. later in the vid they show the engine compartment again after a close up of the blue neon. missed that ooops. but pic is to grainy to see details of the engine compartment and i'm not gonna speculate.
dudelabowski6969 3 years ago
thats a hemi riiiiight there .....o yea that was a option at the dealership...lmao
t3t4sundance 3 years ago
That was Don Garlits, I don't think he meant "HEMI" as in 426, rather the design of the combustion chamber.
hypermite01 3 years ago
yup its definitely a 426 hemi for shur. to a mitsubishi motor big insult!!
matt0107 3 years ago
its the combustion chamber buddy
mopartshemi 1 year ago
Did that guy point to that Spirit R/T and call it a Hemi? Turbo III's arnt Hemis, right?
AcmeAaron 4 years ago
Yeh he definatly called it a hemi lol.
88baron 3 years ago
Chrysler developed the 3.0L V6, Mitsubishi made it. Mitsu had nothing to do with the 4 cylinder Turbos. And that Spirit does NOT have a hemi hahaha

chyslers run strong???????????o please chyslers cant run for shit the only reason they ran good was casue of mitsubshi. MITSUBISHI RULES!!!

Mitsubishi had nothing to do with the design or build of the Turbo 2.2.. It was Shelby who helped Dodge build that engine.. You ignorant piece of shit

mattcossel29 4 years ago 3
shelby didnt have anything to do with the turbo 2.2 chrysler worked on it by itself beginning in 1977
j0ch0a 4 years ago
you need to do some research.. shelby helped develop the turbo 2.2 and 2.5 engines.. that may be dodge had a model of the daytona called the "shelby z" i have done plenty of research on these little cars.. and have owned a few myself
mattcossel29 4 years ago
ive done lots of research, chrysler worked on the turbo 2.2 since about 77 or 78...shelby not included.

um i'm a chrysler fan by far, but the lancer was out i believe in the 60's or 70's from mitsubishi.
kismelmshtfaced 4 years ago

daminejamesak47 4 years ago
"you kno who built the lancer first....hmmm dodge you dumbshit." first lancer, not a dodge, it's a mistubishi. now who's the dumbshit? and, 4 cyl's have been around over 100 yrs. might want to do some research before you go blabbing.

Also a true hemi chamber is large for its design and a large combustion chamber means more heat gets sucked out of the explosion and put into the cooling system. Also a true hemi has no squish area to swirl the a/f on compression resulting in a more incomplete burn. Because of emissions a true hemi chamber isnt used anymore but a pentroof is superior from a emission standpoint and has all the benefits of the hemi valve layout.
dantheman1998 4 years ago
Aloha,
Technically, its not a hemi, but the pentroof chambers share a lot of similarities to a hemi head. The main difference is that the head chamber is not a true half-sphere. The valve system is set up to operate like a hemi head though. Large head chamber, lots of a/f going in, lots of spent gas going out.
Externally though, the valve cover has that flat profile with the spark plug right in the middle which is how a hemi head was recognized in the old days.
mrhand2048 4 years ago
It is a Hemi you horse anus.
If I'm not mistaken the first was a 348cid V-8 and then of course the most famous was the 426.

chrysler did not make the hemi 1st it was pipe in 1905

Take all the experince of all these "youngens" responding here, and that does not add up to what this man has forgotten!
Cdone2 4 years ago
Actually no there not hemi combustion chambers but whats called a pentroof chamber
dantheman1998 4 years ago
What is a pentroof? My fathers got a hemi in a 69 Dart that I helped build. Thoses chambers looked like half a sphere to me.
choochyo 4 years ago
I missread your comment. I believe that you were talking about the Mitsubishi 3.0L. Sorry.
choochyo 4 years ago
If you want to be technical, it is a HEMI, hemishpirical combustion chambers, but I wouldn't consider it one either (but he is right).
gordon2456 4 years ago
Wow, he must really know a ton about cars to look at an obvioulsly DOHC engine and call it a "hemi"
From what I've heard of him he may be sort of a car legend, but he's one of those selective a-holes and according to talk on some message boards, he really had to be pleaded to to even talk about those cars on camera.
