I heard it was a lil kid was crushed... I guess urban myths pop up everywhere.. haha... I loved this ride... was nice to listen to the music and relax for a bit .. esp on a hot day.
@glitzmomof2 ...I recently found out that COP was in Florida, but I didn't realize it was the same one moved that far away. I assumed it was a second one built like the two Splash Mountains. Is that why the Country Bears are now in Florida? Were the California ones moved or was there two Country Bear Jamborees made? But the Country Bears in California were doing the hoedown before they closed it all together. Were the Hoedown and Jamborie going at the same time before they closed them in CA?
Hold on. America Sings didn't close due to lack of popularity. It closed due to Splash Mountain going over budget. In order to save money they had to close America Sings to use the audio animatronics for Splash Mountain. It's true that America Sings was losing it's popularity, but that is not the reason it closed.
@Benstudio13 Yes, and I think that was a rotten reason to close it. How much money did they waste on the innovations center? Disney World made Splash Mountain without closing their carousel theater. They didn't have an America Sings to rip apart.
@glitzmomof2 ....Maybe like the old muppet movie, how they got together. would've been better than the crap they did. And how stupid is it they wanted more land for more attractions and waste space with that Pavilion and the bear's auditorium sitting useless? I don't know what C.O.P. is. Is that something new?
@glitzmomof2 I agree it was stupid to close america sings. They should've kept both. I don't know why they even used song of the south for splash mountain when they tip toe around the movie because the innocent characters of tar baby and uncle remus where once used as racial slurs. Then they close Country Bear Jamborie when they open a movie. Why didn't they make one with the real bears and advertise you can see them live at Disneyland. It could've drawn people that never saw them.
@conker2756 They were the talkative robots in the area right after the room where you see C3PO and R2D2. One was working on a droid and the other was in a little area typing. They had binocular-like eyes and you could see all their wires and whatnot.
@EpicOberon OH NO!!! You got to be kidding me! They skinned those great pieces of art being too cheap to just make new robots. I know the robots you're talking about and love them too, but MAANN knowing they disected a great thing like America Sings sucks. Thats worse then wasting the rocker birds in classes. Are they disected by students too?
@glitzmomof2 They wanted to do that, but splash mountain was already much more costly than planned and they couldn't afford new animatronics, so they had to close down America sings and use the animals for splash mountain.
If this show was to ever be resurrected, it would be better for Epcot World Showcase/ America .. haha..
History is kind of off though. America was celebrating it 200th year and that was a big deal nationally. Thats why this show went in where it did. Consider it a damn good filler for the carousel theater.
for a while there been a rumer that America Sings and People mover are returning to Disneyland, after the Failer of Rocket sleds ride and The Inovations pavlian that now the the CArousel theater, showing its age, with no sponsorship, maybe the time is coming, love to see the ride ad 1970s to 2k music.
@MANEATINGWREATH I grew up in California and was there when they closed America sings. I can't believe it wasn't popular. I loved it and still miss it, in spite of loving Splash Mountain. Devoted of course I saw the birds and the crocks, foxes, bunny and even the vultures and bear. But I never saw any geese on Star Tours. Where was that??? But you forgot one key ingredient to the ride that added fun and levity. POP GOES THE WEASEL. HeeHeeHee
@MANEATINGWREATH .... I left California but not before seeing the Country bears one last time January 1994. Last time I was back in California they were closed. the space sits unused and its sad what they replaced America Sings with. Complete waste of the rotating theater. Can that be popular???
@Miracle490d But the space is being used, the Disneyland version of Innoventions now takes up the old Carousel Theater. It's a walk-through attraction where you can test out and watch technology. The Country bears were in Critter Country, the space is now occupied by The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction.
@Benstudio13 That's what I was talking about the innovations center is a complete waste of time. It's like some silly arcade instead of a real attraction. They ought to have it outside the park available for a reduced fare like a nickle arcade. I was sorry I wasted that much time in there when I realized I could've gone on some real rides. It's probably an easy place for parents to feel safe leaving kids unattended. A nice hang out for abductors, I'm sure. I never saw the Pooh thing, but....
Respond to this video.......I never saw the pooh thing, but I doubt it can hold a candle to the country bears. Pooh shouldn't even be considered a critter. He's more fantasy land. He was a living stuffed animal, remember? Imagination not critter. That's like putting Peter Pan in Adventure Land because he battles Pirates or Tomorrow Land because he flies.
@Benstudio13 ....I never saw the pooh thing, but I doubt it can hold a candle to the country bears. Pooh shouldn't even be considered a critter. He's more fantasy land. I always thought it was weird that they put "America SIngs" in Tommorrowland. They should have put it close to Country bear, thta would've made much more sense, I'd think. I always loved it as a kid though. Also, "mission to Mars."
@Weepingsteel Actually I can answer that question. The carousel theater was originally built for a show about inventions over the years (they still have it at Disney World), so that would fit more in the tommorrow land concept if you think on the basis of technology. But America Sings did have some context of tommorrow if you think on the basis of how music changes over the years and grows. But it would've been better if they advanced the ride rather than remove it. I miss it too.
@Weepingsteel ....I remember mission to Mars. I used to go on when my friends went on Space Mountain and I was too scared. It was fun, but weak compared to todays standards. Star Tours was better and even it's gone to be changed now.
When you see their control of Hollywood and what happened on 911 maybe he wasn't too far off the mark although we shouldn't blame all Jews for the actions of a minority.
@hilarious441 I'm quite educated, I dropped out of college at age 16 because it was holding me back. I also didn't want to wind up some dickhead such as yourself who has a paper asshole and talks to people like he's kelsey grammer.
you probably like wearing neckties too don't you fuckhead?
Other way around: Most are on Splash Mountain, and a few are in Star Tours (1 goose became a G2 droid, and a few of the others are up in the scrap baskets)
Actually, the reason America Sings closed was because Splash Mountain was overbudget, and they needed to close it down in order to afford the attraction.
Just a quick note... although the attendance for the ride diminished slightly as years went on (as with most rides), that wasn't the reason it was closed. It was more due to arguments made among staff and executives that something better could be found (now that it had served its purpose during the bicentennial) to express and embrace the theme of Tomorrowland. I really loved the ride very much too. Alas, a move had begun to replace it with something more 'tomorrow' oriented.
The animals would of been destroyed too if not reused. All of them are there except for ollie and sam and stock group(used for anamontronic training still).who knows where ollie and sam are?
The animatronics arent destroyed when a rife closes. They often end up in the imagineering offices or a imagineering warehouse. Its said that some animatronics from old disney rides end up in imagineers houses.
