It's my contention that it will be humans that populate the universe and we will take animals and plants from Earth with us. It is possible there will be changes in our structure to adapt to the new planet we find ourselves on and this means we and the animals and plants become new species.
This is not necessarily a good thing. When we move into new areas on Earth, we wipe out everything to make building easy. I don't see this changing on new planets.
Why do you say that Carl Sagan was such a great guy? He voiced his feelings, he voiced his thoughts. I think that if we did the same, if we just spoke from our heart in a way that applied to us (The universe probably applied to him) it would be pretty much the same. A great adventure of imaginations and mind travel. If we traveled deep into the sea or as a bird in the clouds or in a starship on the way to Orion, we would get the same effect, to show ourselves to the world as ourselves.
I'm getting goosebumps..this is so eye-opening. btw, I'm 14, so no great speech with big words. Except, I hope there is somewhere after life, because I realllyyy wanna see the sun explode. And, oh lord, I wonder what dominant species will be here then. And how the conquered us. Or how we died off. Tragic.
Was that Richard Dawkins at the beginning? To witness the death of the Sun in 5-6 billion years time would truly be a magnificent sight, yet a sad one given that it is the Sun that gives us life! We have a conscious connection to it, hence religion being based around it! However by that time the human species if still on the planet (before its engulfed by the Sun's expansion) should have evolved to a higher consciousness and colonised other star systems! Carl Sagan had a great mind!
Yes, agreed. Puts things in perspective, doesn't it.
As for Carl Sagan.., if only one tenth of humanity resembled even remotely his character, Wow!.. what a different world it would've been.. ; but his is one in a billion, isn't it.., and the Bushes and Cheneys instead are around every corner.
Hitchens seems to be paraphrasing Sagan without any attribution.

Very much getting to the gist of the big picture. Puts this into a proper perspective. Thanks for sharing.

this is not so clear explanation, I mean not detailed, as Billy Meier's reports. He tried at least.
