It not that we cant play backups on PS# cause we can, its just that new game require new firmware OFFICAL so only old backups work like COD3

I know for a fact it works up to 1.82 (my current FW) Through my experience it requires the drive be connected through SATA cable so you need an HDXT

hmm...I'm still confused by the SATA cable thing. what are you supposed to connect to the ps3? and btw, is this the full game that you're backing up?

You connect the HDD, and this is any game (PS1,PS2,PS3), unfortunately if it fails out on firmware 1.82 and above the file is removed...

this was strictly a method of performing a backup without installing linux, and also showing that the XMB was fully protected, you can't play the backups yet.

Sorry if the this question has been answered, but...I need a straight answer. Can the PS3 play the back-ups from the hard drive without a disk (Like with PS2's HDLoader)?

hacked 2123, i have tried the tiff exploit and it worked differently to the video, mine booted up the playstation3 logo like on everygame, but it dosnt load until i unplug the usb stick(ipod), but in the video the guy tryed bootin the game n it stayed on the ps3 wavey background, so y has mine worked differently? is it coz im usin a ipod n not a black ps3 pro card thing? write back please, perry07

It could be the firmware, it could be the read speed on your usb device, and it also could be a timing thing (where you system got one step (cycle) further.)

na its fine now it depends how fast u do it, coz it did do it like in the video but i also dun it a different way, the way in the video dosnt play the game it only boots it, but the other way was so let it read the usb device for olike 15 seconds then go to boot the game, the playstation 3 logo comes up like on everygame,eject that game put in a different 1, unplug the usb and its works! plays and everything, do u reacon it could boot a ps3 back up?

Don't think that Virtual fighter is only short of 4 GB... I don't know what you're copying, but I doubt it's the whole bluray disc.

The website tells about it, but I only backed up 4Gb so I could then copy it off the hdd and to the PC.

i tryed this on my ps3, i have firmware 1.90 and it works kl :D, still tryin to make it boot ps2 back ups

:D good, you should be able to swap game and backup, and since you have a PAL unit it might run. Good luck, try swapping same games, if that works we can insert code to the PS2 area and possible exploit the RSX from there.

yh i did try to boot a ps2 backup on a dvdrw n it didnt work, but i thinks its to do with the disk, im guna try a dvdr disk, fingers crossed, hacked2123, do you have a specific way or burning games coz i might av burnt mine wrong

I never backed up my PS2 games, so no. But it did swap, but not boot right?

i did find 1 little ... well not a hack but sort of a tip, i managed to have a other os on my ps3 with out a 10gig partiton, i did post a video on it, if u wna c it jus click my name.

I don't know if I've done that before (but I have done similar for sure) but the only reason that isn't going to help is because even without somewhere to save...the HV is going to block the rest of the hdd.

im guessin it should coz it olny freeze the ps3, so it wouldnt matter hat firmware you had.... but then agen it might lol, yhh thats what i was guna ask you.... it is possible to boot a ps2 back-up with this method, like...

puttin in a normal ps2 game

unplug the hardrive

eject the ps2 game so the ps3 still thinks its in there

pop in your ps2 back-up

plug the hard drive back in and see it it boots and plays.....? i wonderr

The swap works, but either in the flash of the PS3 or the RAM of the BD-Drive, there is something protecting it (most likely by accident) I believe its the TOC.

Not on my firmware no...not with my 2.5" inch HDD atleast, when I remove the HDD in FW 1.11 it freezes and will not continue back where it was.

Isn't PS3 HDD fat32, which has a max file size of ~4GB? Would PS3 be able to run 7 segments of blu-ray game (like Lair) rip in the future?

No it isn't FAT32...It's cellfs...it can hold the full bluray on the hdd...

this video didn't satisfy me the first reason is that these backups aren't playable the second any one must have a blu-ray burner because DVD is very small you better work on an iso loader because backups on ps3 sucks
