  • xD. lol'd so hard when he got censored.

  • so you have hundreds of computers worth thousands of dollars but you dont have a single pencil?

    lol

  • I managed to fix around 7 pins and my comp starts fine, noo beeps or auto shutdown, but my screen wont start with the comp.

  • Fen-num. LOL, damn Canadians.

  • BEND IT STRIGHT? What was that ...... :-0

  • LINUS.

    OMG LINUS IS USING VGA

    *dies*

  • @TyneGibbs12 Eh? Looks like DVI to me lol.

  • hahah linus is awesome

i watch his video's all the time!!!

  • Use a razor blade. It works much better and you can align it perfectly.

  • I hate that AMD processors still have pins :(

When are they going to get rid of them? AM4 socket maybe?

  • @tontsa911 optetrons are grid array rather then pins..only consumer grade cpus are pinned

  • like a boss !

  • lol at reminiscing the old days XD

  • Question, I accidented few grease on the CPU pin and how can I clean off?

  • lmao that was epic.

  • linus u just called me poor... thanx.. :3

  • Is there a way to fix pins on the LGA socket? Please help me(Warning: I did not do anything to the pins, the shop sold it that way to me)

  • @nAcolz take it back lol

  • @nAcolz Return it, if it's been sold recently, it should have SOME warranty, and if not, they sold you a defective product, and must give you a refund/replacement.

  • @snati4

They sold me defective product but they say I broke it and I have no way of proving that it was defective. It doesn't really matter, I took magnyfying glass and needle and repaired the pins and it's running OK I even OC'd my i7-2600K to 4.4GHz - I can't do more :/ It's unstable then :D

  • @nAcolz MAYBE, but if you got it like that, RETURN IT ! You don't want to mess with it.

  • @ThePujs

I sent it back and they called me another day and told me that they won't do anything with that and they basically told me that I bent the pins and that they will either send it back to me or they will throw it out. I got it after a few days and took a needle and magnifying glass and very carefully and slowly bent all the pins back. It was like 7 pins and 1 was even actually in the other way. It works very well after all :)

  • @nAcolz Good that it ended well ;) But they should still replace it, unless they are one big ....... *Comple The Sentance* D:

  • @nAcolz why do i need to be warned? Warnings are use when you trying to indicate a possible or impending danger. Just sayin

  • @Hardy123Zhao

1st of that is not the only meaning of warning

2nd I said it because I don't want annoying comments on that I am dumb because I bent the pins even if I didn't

  • @nAcolz

    1. There is no other meaning of "warning" there's no impending danger, or Caution to be taken into account.

    2. People are going to call people stupid either way, get used to it there's always going to be trolls.

    3. You can try to stick a metal pin there as replacement (the same sort or metal used of course) just like what he did in the video. It's just going to be a bit of a different scenario then this. Just try whatever, he winged it in this video too lol.

  • @Hardy123Zhao

I am actually already done with the mobo :) Took a needle and very carefully bent the pins back. They work like small springs.

  • you are the fuckin man! i had the exact same issue and followed your ways to fix it. and... IT WORKED!!! thank you !!!

  • That was beautiful.

  • I LOVED THIS! he sounded like he was about to cry! Dont worry Linus your a BAUS

  • i found using a sowing needle is a very good way to lift up bent pins

  • I HATE AMD , but what you jut did there was awesome.

  • @DarkFireMario100001 How come you hate Advance Micro Devices?

  • @TrocaderoKillen i had my bad experience and good experience with my previous computer but 90% was bad.now im happy with my intel pc.i even took out the cpu out of the motherboard and bent the pins.(moohahahahaha)but what linus did there was amazing.im not going to say why cuz it will take all of the 149 letters that is left for me.

  • first time you say FOX not THE CAMERA MAN

  • Comment removed

  • this was genious. or a hoax(but nonetheless a good one).

I love your enthusiasm. keep making great videos bro!

  • I straightened my PINS but it still does not work :'(

  • 3:58 aleluia moment :O

now when i get a broken pin i will know what to do. Thanks Linus for your amazing tips

  • hello every one im about to go crazy because i cant find what that little table looking thing online i want to buy one but i just cant find it if any one knows what it is please help me !!!! im going crazy i have a pc and my case sucks so i want that table i think its cool help !!!

  • @PChelpism test bench

  • @iluvteck i dont know how to thank you man it is expensive on ebay but lol i know it now i can look around for it thanks man !!!!! your an example of a good youtuber

  • @PChelpism cheers no problem

  • @PChelpism mean a tech/test bench?

  • @fightingfalconfan thank you good youtuber :)

  • @PChelpism your welcome :)

  • 3:56 FTW

  • I don't need to watch this because use intel

  • holy *beep* !XD

  • PC gaming is absolute bullshit -___-

  • @UseryHee ARE YOU F****NG SERIOUS, EVERY CONSOLE IS FULL OF CRYING KIDS

AND JERKS WHO THINK THERE THE BEST AT "CALL OF DUTY MAN!" . Face it consoles are dead and they will be for a while.

  • @skateoria What? Consoles are more popular then ever actually...I do think console gaming is a lot more simple without all the errors, worrying about your hardware and server rules and blah

  • @UseryHee i agree about the errors but i still HATE the 12 year olds that think they can "hack your account" they just really piss me off.

  • @skateoria why dont you just mute them?

  • @UseryHee wtf is this about games? a video of fixing something and your thinking of games.

  • @vgamesx1 wtf does my comment have to do with you? I was talking about games because I used my AMD pc for gaming and the pins broke.

  • I have the same problem with computer not booting, the pins are from the motherboard not the cpu. The top half of one pin has broken off so I was thinking of maybe using a small amount of aluminum foil just enough to make contact with CPU. Would appreciate repair advice asap..

  • Thats why you buy Intel CPU's now :) .

  • @catsado That's why if you break one of the pins in an Intel MoBo you are completely SCREWED...

  • @TheCrazySquirell The % of braking a pin on the mobo is less than the % of breaking a pin on CPU. Have you seen a AMD PC that haven't been cleaned for few years? in 90% of the cases when you try to remove the cooler it comes out with the CPU.

  • @catsado That has nothing to do with the pins or even the MoBo... It's shitty thermal paste, who knows... maybe someone used thermal glue....

  • @TheCrazySquirell No dude. Its the default thermal paste that comes with the cooler.

  • @catsado XD That is shitty thermal paste...

  • BulllShitt haha

  • Solder it back into place ( hope you dont have shaky hands)

  • Haha. I actually did something even more hardcore than this.

I was swapping out the CPU in my laptop.. the original CPU was a Celeron and I was upgrading it to a T7200 Core 2 processor. I'm a moron so of course, I broke a pin off of the T7200 that I'd just paid 150 bucks on eBay for (at the time). And to make matters worse, I dropped the pin on the carpet.

So, what I had to end up doing was ripping one of the pins off of old Celeron CPU (thus risking ruining it) and putting it in the socket.

  • @AnimalHouseVetVideos I was lucky as hell and it totally worked, just like in this video. And a good thing, too, because otherwise I'd have had a ruined Core 2 AND a ruined Celeron on my hands and a laptop with no CPU!

  • @AnimalHouseVetVideos Even more hardcore; I didn't have any CPUs to rip pins off of so I tore apart a Guitar Hero battery charger and found a pin of some sort inside. Dropped it in the CPU socket and it booted. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

  • Excellent helpful video here. I will have to do this. The 1100t I ordered came with a bent pin and Newegg wont let me exchange it. Wish me luck.

  • Linus is over powered :D

  • lol, I bent the fuck out of my Phenom II X4 980 during my first build like a dumbass. I still hang onto it though, just in case I might need it later on. Thanks for the nice little tutorial here!

  • I have a AMD x4 965 BR oced @ 3.8ghz and one of my pins bent and then one fell and broke but my pc still brokes even oced and i was wondering if my mobo will fry or anything like that if i use it this way, someone please inbox me ASAP i want to know

  • Wow dude you helped me revive an old Athlon X2 3800+. A friend of mine gave it to me and it had 1 broken pin and like 20 bent pins. I managed to straighten every pin out but 4 broke off. So I was able to cut 4 small wires and place them into the socket of the broken pins. I was convinced I was wasting me time but it worked!

  • I bent a pin on my a6-3650 I was heart broken so imma try an fix it but do I have to reapply thermal paste?

  • @legendz408

You shouldn't have to reapply thermal paste. Just check on the temps in bios before hand.

  • HOLY SHIT ?! How the fuck did that worked ?!

  • I hope that this will work, I bend some pins from my Phenom II X4 955.

  • @supermutant01 Ohh hope you fix it cause its a pretty good cpu ;)

  • how do i avoid bending pins. My doing my first build soon

  • @samuelu21352135 Don't drop it, if you do check non are slightly bent very carefully before putting it in, how I broke mine, not careful enough. Other than that just follow the markings on chip and mobo and you wont bend any

  • @samuelu21352135 Don't juggle your hardware over a concrete floor and you'll be good.

  • Just as i finish laughing @ top comment i dropped my pin on the carpet... Jesus christ lol

  • @SALADNZ

Strip down a twist tie if you lose the pin, I think it works even better.

  • Really u just helped many ppl who actually accidentally broke and bent their CPU pins and they have to get a new one! U jus saved my 200 bucks!! Holy ****

    Thanks Buddy! :)

Now i can easily buy GTX 460 SE :D:D:D:D:D

  • Damn, i hope this really works, my Pentium 4 had the Dell-Cooler attacket ON the P4... and it wont eat the bent pins... Do'h!

  • you look like a doctor

  • Rad. This was awesome. Subbed.

  • Damn, I honestly didn't expect that to work.

  • dude , I have a broken pin.(AM2+) and the pin name is AL12_NC . do you think it will work or not without repairing it?

  • OMG thank you man, my Intel Pentium got stuck to the heatsink and when i pulled it it bent some pins :P

  • Yeah...you can fix AMD's ...the Impossible Mission starts with Intel's :D but... Linus will fix it anyway....somehow.

  • i have actualy fixed several cpu specificaly 478 intel cpus and i have a friend that works for intel and has the skills and tools at his work to resolder the pins on to the cpu it self and that is what you do when you break the pin off if you realy want it to work

  • Aren't we all poor this days.

  • you drop a cpu and only ONE pin bends. hmm.... laws of physics reloaded ^_^

  • @tavi921 who says he dropped it on a perfectly flat surface. could have been an edge or corner. laws of physics reset! ^_^

  • Curiosity question, what's the song when it goes into '12x' mode? I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

  • Comment removed

  • @TyneGibbs12 Benny Hill, I think.

  • @TyneGibbs12 It's called Yakety Sax. Also known as The Benny Hill Theme Song.

  • Are you getting this camera guy

  • damn I shouldn't have took my other computer apart to get all the dust out... fml I can't fix the damn pins

  • thank you so much,, you've just saved my pc. I fixed my AMD Athlon X2 4400 processor. Three of the pins got broken when I tried to pry cpu from heatsink. Pc was dead not even POST beep. Many thanks to this procedure I have just booted up my pc

  • Too bad I accidentally dropped my broken pin on the floor which was carpet. :[

  • what happens when pin broke before watching this??

    Used to shout "AHH F**K!!!!"

  • I am an AMD fan but it sucks they still have the pins in CPU's instead of the mobo :(

  • What a big video card... I hate double decker video cards

  • @kbhasikevin they all are unless u get a low end htpc one

  • Linus is god.

  • this shit happened twice to me, this shit takes 2hours to fix -.-!

  • if i was a microelectronics company id have STUDS like intel does as the socket iself that slot into emboised grove holes in the CPU to make contact

  • I can't believe how freakin' big a video card is compared to the motherboard.

  • @excelkit12 u shud see how big a 6990 is then !

  • Once the pin is not completely bent at a 90 Degree angle and just crooked.

I found a good method is just to use a razor blade.

Slide the sharp end in between the straight pins and just kind of wobble the blade back and forth thus straightening 1 or more pins up with one another.

  • use a .5mm mechanical pencil and put the top on the pin and slowly move the pin back.

  • I FIXED ALL 13 OF MY BENT PINS, THANK YOU!

  • AWESOME! This just saved my cpu. Dropping the broken pin into the socket took about a dozen tries, but once it got in, IT WORKED!

  • Still can see the reflection of the swearing on the monitor :x

    Hahaha best tech tips eveeerrr

  • Awesome and Very Handy To Know!

  • @NCIXcom Why couldn't you just resolder the pin back on to the microprocessor? Its more professional than just jamming a pin back into a socket.

    Emmanuel,

    Computer/Electronics Technician

  • @emanpiano10

That actually sounds like a good way to make a fixable problem into an unrecoverable disaster. Those pins aren't hand soldered.

  • @gentilegrief I all ready knew that they are not hand solder. but at Intel they use advance automated manufacturing equipment for fabricating their semiconductor products. I also fixed numerous semiconductor devices, so it is possible to hand fix tiny pins on microcontrollors or transistors etc with specialized microscope and smaller sized soldering tools,

I'm not only a technician but a electrical engineering student it can be done.

  • @NCIXcom @LinusTechTips Well Done Sir. Well done!

  • LINUS SWORE!!

  • before I thought if I ever touched the pins or get a little bit dirt on them it would be non- functional and today I accidental bend about 7 pins and after watching this video it was enough for me to fix my phenom processor, Thank you!!

  • Amazing!

  • Lol.....Linus bleeped

  • This is more like GhettoTechTips

  • I just misread the title as: Fixing a Bent / Broken Pen*s

  • To those saying you won't have this issue with Intel CPU's, I'd like to see you trying to straighten pins (let alone use a broken off one) in the socket.

  • @S4pp1c It's funny because intel doesn't use pins...

  • @acemace3618 You are refering to the ball system used on Intel? is it that system they use I believe. Not shure though. Anyway, for the AMD it was a pretty nice way to recover the machine back (at least for a while).

  • @Tuscopa Instead of pins, Intel uses non pin contacts, which could be a bad thing if you mess up the circuitry

  • @acemace3618 From photos I´ve seen the Intel one´s (contacts) are flatened. Never noticed that form. I´ve noticed the pin and the ball one´s only. Anyway. We are always learning.

    Thank you.

  • @Tuscopa Don't mention it

  • @acemace3618 Wow... This is too funny, you do realise Intel uses pins on their motherboards don't you?

  • @S4pp1c They're right, it's not an issue with the $400 CPU, it's an issue with the $100 motherboard.

  • HOLY SHIT

  • HELP- ive got quad core cpu q6600 2.4Ghz but on my pc it says its 1.80ghz quad ????

and the windows is 64 bit

  • @THEKINGBG1

thats because of intel's speedstep technology which reduces energy consumption. Look again when you are stressing the cpu, it will be at 2.4GHz.

  • @Rodhizzzle its ok i fixed it i had to adjust the jumpers now its fine

  • Nice one Linus,Im wondering why AMD still continues to use Pins on their Cpus rather than pads like intel does?

  • LOL

  • @SluzBag1993 Intel used pins on their old processors. And if your poor as what he said in the video you probably don't have money to buy an intel processor.

  • Intel used pins as well on their old processors from the first releases for pentium 4.

  • holly F--K...........:)

  • Best way to avoid this. Buy Intel.

  • i had a bent pin on my old 2003 intel motherboard(of course i have a new pc now)

and when i put the proccesor the pin was upright, exactly as it should have been

  • need some phat pins no bends

  • this video (if fast forwarded 10x) could become an advertisement

  • And that folks is why you go with intel.......well that and a blue sticker.

  • >2009

    >Still using pins

  • @CRuleProductions Pins are outdated by what standard? Do you expect some kind of liquid-metal fusion between motherboard and cpu?

  • @96shox No, Intel doesn't use pins on it's CPU. It uses a gold plated pad, the pins are in the socket on the motherboard. I think that's what he was trying to say.

  • @SluzBag1993 I know intel uses a different method, but how does differentiation make one method obsolete?

  • Linus sounds like he is doing surgery. Lol!

  • Fixed mine with a sewing pin! Turns out it was the pin that controlled 2 out of 4 of my memory sockets! Thank god I fixed that! Good job Linus!

  • clap clap clap

  • Thank You so much! I fixed like 4 pins and my cpu works!

  • Fixed mine with a credit card!

  • I'm jealous of your patience, Linus. After about 4 minutes of trying things I would have thrown it out the window and see how many pins break.

  • @ 3:58 I saw his reflection curse. xD

  • @lXlNismo11lXl I couldn't see it,

    what as it?

  • I managed to bend more than half of the pins on my Phenom II 910 x4. After about 2 hours of doing this I put it in with a missing pin. Works just fine (plus the new thermal paste I put on has the temperature lower than it was before). I am either very talented or lucky and I think we all know which one it is.

  • not bad. actually didn't know this was possible. nice job man

  • i use one time for a athlon X2 4000+ (yes it's not a athlon II ) and itt's hard take big amound of time but it's work ;)

  • Wow i laughed soo bad when it posted

  • paper clip

  • I shit my pants when the pins bent

  • U can see camera man on tv when Linus goes holy f****

  • Awesome! Way to go. You didn't give up and did a nice unconventional repair. Very solid tech demo. Thanks.

  • I also had this problem, i just called killslow for free. And they helped me, it's now fixed. Check my channel video.

  • AMD Phenom II X3 720 - Ghetto Edition(?)

  • What about fixing a broken OFF pin? Can you do a tutorial on that?

  • @Sodisna That was it. during the fix he broke the pin off. watch the vid again and you can see how to do it

  • bullshittt!!! lmfaoo

  • HOOOLYYYYY!! *******

  • LMFAO!!!! LIKE A BOSSSSS!!!! Linus is a greek GOD.
