I can probably assume youve grown up with Victors playing over the past ten years. He is a tremendously gifted player, the best bassist of his generation. In total, hes not at the playing level of Stanley Clarke. They both have their individual styles, but Stanleys bass playing is much more far reaching and mature. Look up on Youtube SMV Thunder Tour Battles of Bass. I think you will understand that he cant technically play what Clarke can.
I remember that day vividly. I was standing right next to the camera. It was a great weekend since Larry Graham was there the next day. Although I've seen Stanley around 60 times (including The Birchmere last week), I'm still enjoying my copy of this video. The whole concert was out of this world. You can imagine how much of a kick I got out of Stanley pointing to me and saying "you want 'Wild Dog?'...
Im a true Stanley Clarke bass fan, may be his number one. I saw this show, but I didnt like the distortion he was using that day on his bass. His playing was impeccable as always, but his sound was a little off to me.
I am a huge Stanley fan since the early 70,s. He is Stan The Man.I think he was in his Wa wa faze, at this point. Ya his sound was off,but still great.
