Very interesting looking back on my childhood and seeing a cartoon which was very pro environment just like captain planet. The message of this show was to utilize renewable energy as to not destroy the environment. I think the "young forever" represents innocence and also represents that lack of diseases the suntots suffered, such as premature aging that can result from our industrial north american lifestyles and including things such as obesity, cancer and diabetes.
for such a long time I thought I must've imaginged this show, I couldn't describe it to anyone and so no one could tell me if it existed or not. Now I'm a little mystified as to how I forgot this damn theme song...

I remember one episode had Polluto try to get Little to use some growth formula (Shampoo), in the hopes that he (She?) would smash the island... But numbskull tried it on himself to demonstrate tht there was no catch when Little was a bit leery of accepting something from the Smoggies..
@MortimerDarkness No. Polluto became a giant, and terrorized the island as "King Polluto", until he was tricked into falling into the ocean, washing the goop off, returning him to normal.
Amazing show about conservation and frivolous waste. I wish more children in the United States would have had an opportunity to watch this incredible show.
The strange thing is, the 3 smoggies actually represent three things that cause pollution and the things in the show. Emma was pride and selfishness. Clarence was industral engineering and technology. Polluto was the more incccent of the 3 representations, his was navity, he didn't realise half the time he was doing wrong and actually did like things like animals. Polluto was my favourite because he DID care and was aware that he did wrong, he was just the last to acknolwedge it was wrong.

Clarence isn't actively evil a lot of the time, either - he represents the worst kind of technological development in that he's only interested in what he can do, not what he SHOULD. The fact that all his technology spews out oil and poison seems to be just a side-effect. But since he's in thrall to Emma's greed and selfishness, everything he makes is incredibly destructive. I thought it was a shame that Emma doesn't really seem to have a "good side", though.
The program was re-titled "Stop The Smoggies". Incidently, Teletoon Retro in Cnada plans a 3 hour marathon of this on Sunday Apr. 17, 2011 from 1-3pm EDT. That generally means they're going to add it to their schedule sometime in the future. As for the theme, I preferred the closing theme-which was instrumental. Catchy without the environmental crap shoved down your throat.
How many English kids would actually understand what the word 'ecologically' means today - I teach in college (16-18 years old) and most of them would struggle with this sort of vocabulary.
I remember as I child I watched this show and would always say to myself, "FUCKING ISLAND MIDGETS! FUCKING SHARE YOUR CORAL OF ETERNAL YOUTH SO THE FUCKING SMOGGIES WOULD LEAVE"! Little fuckers could of just did that it would of saved everyone a fuck of lot of trouble and campy songs god damn.
It's ironic that despite the Smoggies' claim to like mess and dirt, they themselves seem to observe a reasonable standard of personal hygiene. Even the big dopey looking one and the canary perched on his head.
Totally, that's cos in cartoons it's mostly the bad guys that have the most thought and effort put into the character design. The good guys are always simple and cheesy designs.

How I loved cartoons that preached morals. One day I think I'll make a cartoon about a dim-witted leader of a powerful country who has a group of sly, scheming sidekicks who decides to send an Army into a desert where funny darked-skinned people with towels on their heads (and weird religious beliefs) live because under the ground there is all the thick black stuff that the people in the President's country crave.
I can't believe I'm watching this because the show really creeped me out when I was little. I still remember whne Teletoon was first introduced to cable and this show was on it along with Teddy Ruxpin and lots of other shows that soon became favorites.
Nope, I have long forgotten the lyrics to the theme song, but the chorus of "suntots, suntots everywhere (ooh-wee-ooh-ooh)" randomly pops into my head and wedges itself there on a loop for hours. Rather annoying. :)

Instead of creating air pollution it is apparent they prefer to use animal slavery and labour to propel their water vehicles. How I loved cartoons that preached morals. One day I think I'll make a cartoon about a dim-witted leader of a powerful country who has a group of sly, scheming sidekicks who decides to send an Army into a desert where funny darked-skinned people with towels on their heads (and weird religious beliefs) live because under the ground there is all the thick black stuff that the people in the President's country crave.

I can't believe I'm watching this because the show really creeped me out when I was little. I still remember whne Teletoon was first introduced to cable and this show was on it along with Teddy Ruxpin and lots of other shows that soon became favorites.

Nope, I have long forgotten the lyrics to the theme song, but the chorus of "suntots, suntots everywhere (ooh-wee-ooh-ooh)" randomly pops into my head and wedges itself there on a loop for hours. Rather annoying. :)

@shannairl I could never make out all lyrics, partly because they're a bit muffled and partly because I was only about 5 or 6 when I watched this and at that age was terrible at understanding song lyrics, I thought it was "Suntots, Suntots, Earth and weerrr". I too haven't quite forgotten this theme tune, you have to admit it's fairly catchy or is that just the nostaglia kicking in?
