A band called 'the step' did an excellent cover of this song. They were around during the UK mod revival late 70's/early 80's. They supported Secret Affair at the Rainbow Theatre in London and were vg live....a lot like the 'q tips'. They did another song called 'tears that i cry' which was also vg. You can probably find them on here somewhere...worth checking out.
The Elgins started off as The Downbeats Johnny Dawson, Robert Flemming and Cleo Duke Miller were the original members and when Saundra Edwards joined them they became The Elgins, and as far as i know the only member who has passed away is Cleo Duke Miller, Saundra, Johnny and Robert are all living as far as i know
I made a video of this LP and this song! It didn't work though. This song was originally by Wilson Pickett on Atlantic (recorded at STAX) written by Steve Cropper (Booker T & The MG's guitarist) and Eddie Floyd ("Knock On Wood")
i wentto philly and saw the elgins performed.Thiasked they are they the original member He said---Mrs Virgil Ginyard that he is. do you have any info about that group. thx
There is ONLY one decent version of this song - UNCLE OTIS REDDING!

The whole album is great. They cut a single on VIP called "I understand my man" a soulful slow track, Thanks for the posting

I like this version a tiny bit better than the Wilson Pickett version. Its got a faster more vibrant and less bluesy beat.

Never knew they recorded this, and it's the first time I've ever heard it. Have to admit, they did a great job on this!
