  • May I ask what the kick drum, head, pedal combo is? Sounds like it is open tuned high with no muffle and I am diggin' it big time!! Thanks for the awesome comparison videos!

  • aahhhh i godda get me one

  • can someone tel me the actuall tuning for this drum to get that fat famous thud that its known for even at the high end..? do you do tune bottom head higher or wat?

  • could you please create a video lesson on how to tune a snare drum your way because all your snares sound perfect.

  • best snare in the world ;)

  • thanks so much for making all these vids! you can't really go anywhere and pick out awesome classic peices and tell a pro to play it in several styles cuz you wanna hear how it sounds in the mix. XD.

    p.s. what an awesome job.

  • what's the significance of the blue olive badge? It looks identical to mine apart from the badge... My badge is just silver

  • hey sweet playing man :)

I don't suppose you have this model but hand hammered do you, I have been looking absolutely everywhere but the hand hammered B/O only seems to come in 14x5

  • Can't decide between this snare drum and the steve jordan sig snare. I play funk/rock music primarily, need help. Which would you choose?

  • I would go for this 1

  • i'd think this is more versatile.

but the Steve Jordan is also an excellent choice.

  • DEFINATELY the Black Beauty. This thing tuned up is an absolute monster.

  • @radiowizard32 this one for sureeeee this one its sooo good

  • This set up is perfect: that Yamaha tom sounds dope, the snare as well, of course... Excellent playing and technique too.

  • I just got one of these BBs.

Absolutely love it but I can't get it to sound quite as awesome as you did in this video. Can you tell me how you have it tuned here?

Also are you using the original snares the BB comes with?

  • Everything on the drum is stock. We tune the batter head moderately tight and the snare side head tight.

  • @azvaks try getting new heads for it because stock ludwig heads suckkk

  • @azvaks I noticed the same, I have trouble to get it to sound good. But sometimes when I manage, the BB is unbeateble. reso head very, very, very tight. batter head juts moderate.

  • love the ride, i know you guys use K customs in a lot of these videos, but what is this one exactly?

  • It is a 22" K Light Ride.

  • definatley one of the best snares out there....

  • what kind of hi hat are you playing here? zildjian somthing....

    thanks

  • Zildjian 14" New Beat Hi Hat Cymbals. You can check them out on our website.

  • @memphisdrumshop The most versatile hats ever produced. Vintage ones are thinner and darker-sounding than the newer ones, but all are great.

  • Im looking for a snare with great snares on it when bought,I play more on the heavy side of music but love playing any style drums period.what would you say is a good choice for around 200?

  • You might want to check out the Mapex 14x8 Big Cat snare drum. You can view it on the Memphis Drum Shop website.

  • The definitive rock snare drum...awesome

  • the kit looks like a yamaha, is it?

  • Yes it's a Yamaha Maple Custom Kit with a Yamaha Brass Snare(w/die cast hoops).

  • The snare and the ride sounds amazing.. what ride is it?

  • Zildjian 22" K Light Ride

  • ha i have a 69 supraphonic that looks the same as this. too bad because now it just looks like any new one. it has lost its vintageness. but not really

  • Great snare and the Levee Breaks groove was a nice touch although you'd need to tune down a little for a Bonham sound!

So are they making them with the B/O badge again or is this a 70's one?

  • Ludwig now uses the B/O badge to designate their B stock snares.

  • What do you mean by B stock snares?

Which heads do you recommend for this snare for use in studio, versatile sound?

    Thanks!

  • The best snare EVER. I own 15 snares and I ALWAYS come back to my old Black Beauty. LOTS of copies out there, but they just don't stand up to the 'ol Black Beauty. For serious recordings don't take a chance, use the Black Beauty. Love, Steve

  • Sounds fantastic! Did you record this with one mic?

  • most recorded snare in history.

  • ehm.... close.

The Chrome Supraphonic (which is actually chrome plated aluminum alloy) is the Most Recorded Drum in history. The Black Beauty is black chrome or nickle over brass.

  • sorry, but says who. I would like to see this statistic

  • The Supraphonic 400 and 402, are the same aluminum shell as the Acrolite, but with 10 lugs, thicker hoops and chrome plated, factors that gives them a more bright, controlled ,less ringy, wetter sound, they are the Main snare for many of the Greatest of all time, including Ringo, Bonzo, Joe Morello, Gadd, to mention a few. the 400 is 5 deep, the 402 is 6.5.

Those are the most recorded, most used snare drums in music history. Their versatility and sound are legendary.

  • almost every producer, engineer in pop , rock , jazz, funk , will tell you..almost every well known studio in the world will have at least one !! and ludwig have stated this in catalogues as well..a studio without one is like a hamburger with nothing on it....just blah...

  • Haha, the studio i work in has basicly every ludwig snare out there. Well, almost. They are the best. Its them and for wood its DW.

  • I have the BB and a COB, that is crome over brass, maybe I should have bought the Luddaloy instead, the cob is pretty much like the BB

  • ...em, isnt the Supraphonic the most recorded ??

  • yeah, this is a supraphonic. The two above are debating over the chrome supraphonic vs. the black beauty supraphonic (which is black chrome).

  • i'm debating between buying the 402 supraphonic or the black-beauty supraphonic... not sure which yet. any large differences? this drum is obviously more expensive.

  • both are good drums, maybe the supraphonic is a little higher but also pretty dry. The BB is also very good.

  • fantastic sound... black bauty snares are awesome

  • That drum takes on a whole new depth if you ditch the stock Ludwig batter head for your basic Remo Coated Ambassador. Oh, god, is that heaven.

  • I dig mine with the stock Luddy head just fine . When it needs replacing I'll try a Remo Amb .

  • I totally agree. Great kit, beautiful cymbals, a snare drum you have to marry and a really good drummer... like his jazz skills!

  • What ride is that? 22" K Custom Dark? Love it.

  • Memphis...was I right about the ride?

  • BB is the most fat and punchy one i have ever heard. but i have another question that how did you get that punchy bass drum sound with quite a lot of low end

  • Yamaha Maple Custom and Remo P3 drum heads.

  • This snare sounds oh so good.
