There is an option in the advanced options menu, I don't remember how it's called but when you wanna disguise you have to press two keys instead of one, the first one being 1,2 or 3, it selects the class family between attack (Scout,Soldier,Pyro), defense (Demoman..) or support classes. Then you press the second key which chooses the class in that family you selected. It might sound more complicated but you only need one hand and the 1,2 and 3 keys to disguise as any class even the spy quickly.
Many spies think that disguising as a scout will make them run faster, but in reality you have a slow scout running around, which is just a dead giveaway.
Disguising as your team at the start of the round with the dead ringer is the best.
You "die" and go hide, disguise into a support class because they usually stay behind (Especially Medics and Snipers. Classes like the Engineer can be suspicious, so don't try that).
just for an advice if you use Y. E. R. don't shoot so much when you are discuised, because next discuise can be really hard to get and when you shoot you usually just remove your discuise for no good reason

Demoman is the perfect disguise. Scout makes you suspicious because you're too slow, soldier makes you slower, a pyro on fire is a dead giveaway, heavy makes you really slow, it's weird for engies and snipers to be on the front line, it's weird for a medic not to be healing anyone and spies are usually checked just in case.
Whenever I'm being defensive I disguise as spy, cus spies are meant to be around enemy players. When I'm going offense I switch between demo, sniper and pyro. Pyro is usually either very good or very bad because no one spy checks you except for other pyros, but when a pyro spychecks you, you're basically dead.

After I die, I run as far as I can as I am invisible, then switch over to an engineer, as they are found all over the map in most game types. I disguise as a class in the beginning, than get a backstab, than press B to get back in the first disguise. When I got a couple of backstabs I change of disguise and repeat the prosses.
has anyone noticed that there is no backstab animation for when you knife someone in the back? How do you do that? i wanna do that too since the backstab animation is lame IMO. i just want to normally hit someone.
I once disguised as my own team's heavy for the soul purpose of intimidating anyone who came near the point. Not only did it stop people from coming at me right away but they also didn't expect the back stabbing on the point when the heavy "wasn't there"
Most of the time I disguise as a pyro or a spy. It's very risky to disguise as a medic, since most of the medics heal everyone they see. A sniper or an engineer walking in a big group of people is suspicious. A demo, heavy or a soldier slows you down to much. A slow scout is suspicious too.

@POZDRAW Search wickydoo on youtube he does lets plays and gives tips on how to be the best players. Look for his video on settings in the game he will show how to change those numbers. I always disguise as spy. People ARE likely to spycheck you more often, but you are kind of expected to be behind enemy lines, so some of the more advanced players just leave you alone, thinking " Oh, he probably just got a couple backstabs and is trying to charge up cloak."
@ThatLogicalSqueaker I prefer sniper, same reasoning of being behind enemy lines as a support class without really having to run from your side and looking suspicious but to each his own.
My disguising really depends. I usually shy away from pyro because they can inflict afterburn and if you appear as one to one its more like that you will be they. I usually go demo or soldier to get behind enemy lines if I want to attack the frontal assault, Engie or whatever else for sappers, and medic, demo, or sniper for snipers.

When I disguise I only go as Engineer / Demoman.
My method is: When using knife- Scroll Down > Click > Hit 6/4, VERY easy on my dpi
When using pisol- Scroll Up > Click > Hit 6/4
I don't use Fast Weapon Switch since it's not good personally for me, I use all classes... so it's hard for using Medic / Spy.

As soon as I gain back my cloak, I purposely get hit or fall off of something, Then I switch to a Sniper at the back of the map, Equip the Machete and Jump walk, my way to the front while killing everyone in sight.
Or I just go Saharan with my normal watch. I find this more fun.

I disguise as a class in the beginning, than get a backstab, than press B to get back in the first disguise. When I got a couple of backstabs I change of disguise and repeat the prosses.

I once disguised as my own team's heavy for the soul purpose of intimidating anyone who came near the point. Not only did it stop people from coming at me right away but they also didn't expect the back stabbing on the point when the heavy "wasn't there"

You know...
When disguised you can change your disguised weapons.
For example you cloak as a demo.
Switch to your knife, gun or Sapper and press B now your disguised demo has a different weapon equipped!

Most of the time I disguise as a pyro or a spy. It's very risky to disguise as a medic, since most of the medics heal everyone they see. A sniper or an engineer walking in a big group of people is suspicious. A demo, heavy or a soldier slows you down to much. A slow scout is suspicious too.

I almost always disguise as demo as well because ive rationalized it as one of the best disguises.
Scout-Obvious speed, Solider-Slow, Pyro-Expected to be spy checking/spamming all day, Heavy-Slow,Medic-Not healing ppl, Engineer- usually not roaming the map so suspicous.
Spy obviously works also but i think ppl are more suspicous of spies. Sniper also works but also generally dont roam the map. Demo does walk around and isnt expected to spy check as much b/c close range weps

@POZDRAW Search wickydoo on youtube he does lets plays and gives tips on how to be the best players. Look for his video on settings in the game he will show how to change those numbers. Btw I won't believe you own if your new, for ex spy you dont own when starting its takes like 150-200 hours to master it or more

I always disguise as spy. People ARE likely to spycheck you more often, but you are kind of expected to be behind enemy lines, so some of the more advanced players just leave you alone, thinking " Oh, he probably just got a couple backstabs and is trying to charge up cloak."

My disguising really depends. I usually shy away from pyro because they can inflict afterburn and if you appear as one to one its more like that you will be they. I usually go demo or soldier to get behind enemy lines if I want to attack the frontal assault, Engie or whatever else for sappers, and medic, demo, or sniper for snipers.

What I do for disguising is I use the dead ringer and disuse as my own team (Usualy heavy) Then I get behind enemy lines as medic and go wild.

Offensive spy: rarely cloaks, usually uses enforcer and invisible watch or dead ringer. depends on disguise a lot
Defensive spy: focuses on chainstabs, and cloaks a lot, uses yer often
