Salutare :)

  • hey can someone tel me if the output of the generator is A.C or D.C?

and yeah how to calculate the speed of rotation and the output voltage of the generator?

  • @stmfaizan

A car alternator output is DC since you are connecting it to a battery. With an alternator, it produces a constant charging voltage of 13,2-14V regardless of rpm ( obviously we're talking from 800rpm above ). The voltage is controlled by a regulator ( the black box with colored wires connected to it ) which constantly alters the field current so voltage output stays the same.

The speed of rotation is calculated by knowing the gear ratios and measuring wheel rpm.

  • how much electricity does that produce????

  • cool

  • its better than a gas generator

  • but it bad for the eco geo.

Oricum, succes in continuare.

  • Now OK, let's get serious

What u have are very promising micro hydro conditions (low head but high flow). Nice try, but this setup is all wrong!

Undershot water wheel is crap, you only recover a fraction of power. Use overshot by any means

You've got THREE transmissions, rusting, catching dust. Use a shaft attached to the wheel axle, some joints as needed and an ONE overdrive gear IN A HOUSING

Protect the wiring. Rainfall and moist surely trigger some tiny short-circuit losses

  • 1.How can I go overshot with less than 2ft of head ? I can't modify the dam , otherwise , spring overflows could ruin the bridge.

2.I need to multiply rpm by at least 75x in order to properly use the car alternator. The only thing that isn't encased is the large chain.I plan to make a cover for it in the near future. If you look carefully , you'd see the case hanging to the right.

  • 1. Maybe you should try to lengten this orange delivery pipe and put its intake much higher up the stream? And then install it nearly horizontally over, say, a hundred metres.

    2. Try to replace a series of open chain gears with a cardan shaft attached to the wheel axle transferring power to some on-land closed bevel gears with high multiplication ratio. Then attach the generator to the output.

Power of 100W is virtually no gain. It's enough for a single bulb or a personal computer.

  • 1. The pipe is 12" in diameter and costs $120 for every 13ft.I'm not sure it is worth it ; I'd could probably gain 3-4ft in head.Secondly , there's ownership problems ; I'd have to go over someone else's land.

2.The smaller chain drives a 22x gear based multiplier.

    3. 100w is enough.I'm using a large battery ( 180A at 12V ).I can use 200-300w and at night the battery recharges.

100w is enough for 4 efficient light bulbs and 50w of music. That's all I care.

  • theannoyingdogpoo has an appropriate name

  • Theannoying.. :

I am curious. Given the physical limitations here, If the water wheel was smaller so it could be an overshot would that be better?

  • Excelent prietene!

Ai sa vezi in schimb ce circ iti fac daca vrei sa dai curentul in reteaua nationala...

  • so i realize thats an alternator running into a battery... but what are you powering? or are you just charging it maybe? also lots of corrosion due to the elements?

  • A mountain cabin , lighting , music and TV.Corrosion is a problem , I'd say painting is required each 2-3 years and constant greasing for the chains and ball bearings.

  • seems awfuly slow for a car alternator RPM, lol. But it looks great to me. I think it is a magnet motor dynamo.

    Ben

  • It is a 12V 50A car alternator , runs at 1100-1250 rpm.

  • Basis of a good low tech easy fixeable system i would think, even if only 2-5 amps it is 24hrs a day, very good watching!!.

  • Esti Roman? Te-am auzit spunand "instalatia"

  • Da e roman! E din Romania.

  • Looks pretty good but theres lots of work been done proving that its more effecient to have the water turn the wheel from the top. Something to do with the weight of the water giving additional impetus I guess. Looks like you had the height to do it that way. Just an observation not a criticism.

  • Cool!

  • w0w...its good, very cooL..i like to know what kind of motor you used to generate electricity...

  • I am looking to build a similar system. Not sure which type of turbine. I have only approx. 16 inches of head and a surrounding wetland. Great video.

  • hey great video it's exactly how I imagined it. I'm very interested in exploring new sustainable energy systems but there's one thing I don't understand perhaps you or anyone out there can explain to me. How exactly does the wheel turning connect to the battery to produce electricity? how could I build one.

Thanks for the info and the inspiration : )

  • see the chains? Different sized sprockets makes a shaft that spins faster than the wheel, it turns turns an automobile alternator, which charges the battery. The voltage inverter then changes the electricity to what is usable in houses.

  • and alternator keeps same to voltage too

if te wheel turns too fast it mean ıt makes too much power____if it turns too slow ıt makes less power___alternator always keeps it at the same voltage__or tries to do it :D

  • you are a lucky man to have a stream of your own, please send me diagrams and specs of your generator and assembly and I will return with diagrams and specs to show you how to turn that energy into usable fuel to run your car on, via economical hydrogen disassociation, drew (AT) organicphoto DOT org

  • With a good design you can generate much much more power. You have all the water coming out of one place. With a light weight wheel that will not waste any water, and a transmition that wont waste much energy, you will generate a great amount of energy. Maybe you can even make the electricity meter go backwards.

  • That's impressive. Does anyone have a suggestion on a book in English that I can learn from?

  • go to otherpower dot net.

  • er, dot com

  • produce cam putin 100W,daca l-ai face macar sa dea 500W ti-ai alimenta PC-ul lejer.

  • Poti lejer sa-ti alimentezi PCul.Toata smecheria consta in faptul ca folosesti o baterie.

  • How much wattage are you getting?

  • 80-100w.

I have only 2' of head and the wheel isn't very efficient.
