@Pauliewanna I just watched a video of I.M. in Argentina from 2009 and Nicko is playing EXACTLY what I'm playing - albeit, leading with his left hand, but he is definitely pausing after the cymbal -- check out the 4:00 mark, there is a shot of him doing it.

I tried playing it several different ways (stickings) and it just did not sound ANYTHING like the record. You still may be right, Clive was a hell of a drummer and young, full of piss and vinegar when they recorded this album. I'm getting old. LOL

@ooUooUoo I had another listen to this and I think I'm playing it correctly. There is a distinct pause -- also, I tried to play a continuous roll at that speed and still hit the cymbal and there's just no way of doing it without completely screwing up the sticking. I think there is a brief pause. It's hard to tell - fidelity wasn't that great in 1984 and the CD version I have of that album (I have the LP, but no record player working) is pretty over-produced so it's hard to hear. Still - minor!

Clive definitely has a different style than Nicko. Nicko is all over the place with the bass and ride especially. And you don't notice until you really dissect the song.

it's not so much the rolls themselves, but the fact that you have to try and play them right after absolutely blistering on the hi-hat for the past minute or so. Obviously, you have to be able to play fast and even, but that just comes with practice. I remember a friend of mine trying to play this when we were younger (i.e. the album just came out. LOL) and he just threw his sticks in the air after the first 30 seconds or so.

Excellent job, especially that you did it "cold". Clive's style is much more "jazzy" than Nicko's, though I think that Nicko makes his drumming look easier than it is. I think the hardest IM song from a drumming perspective would be Gangland for sure.. yeah I guess that I could make that a request. Keep up the great work!
