Thank you for posting this. Our ABC affiliate used to show it at 1AM in the late 1970's on Saturday night. I was a kid at the time and no one I described it to knew what the program was.
Thats freaky, i havent heard this tune for such a long time, and i still remembered it while watching it, thanks for the memory, it was repeated in the early 1980's
I was just thinking about this series and remembered how much I liked the opening theme to it. So I did and quick search. Great! Thanks for putting it up.
This was an absolutely brilliant TV show - it was as creepy as the theme song! I remember watching this every Thursday night. There were some really big stars playing guest roles in each episode and the story lines were always incredibly creepy and fantastic! They just don't make shows like this anymore!
This programme was a must watch when I was a teen. I thought the opening sequence was a child's playground with the rides moving on their own. Anyone know if there were 2 different openings, or is my memory playing tricks again?
I am absolutely floored. A friend directed me to your Glenn Gould interview which is an absolute gem (where in the world did you find it!!??) and I went to see your youtube site and found this. You have no idea how happy I am. For years and years I have been trying to remember the name of the tv program I saw as a kid which began with the spooky empty fairground. Noone in my family could remember, noone anywhere could remember and here it is. Criky Chatham.
The heartbeat sound has been bugging me for ages - then it after watching this it struck me how similar it sounds to a slightly faster version of the intro of the Depeche Mode song 'Somebody' (00:01 - 00:22) ... IMHO they both sort of share the same mysterious slightly menacing lonely atmosphere.
Great to see this again after about 35 years, still never forgot the haunting opening sequence, i remember some excellent episodes The Killing Bottle and ,Eve. Will we ever see it on DVD,proberbly a case of who owns the rights to it. I remember it was a Hammer production i think released through 20th Century Fox. Great post thanks.
Magnificent - please see my comments on the "other" youtube post re these titles (a la SpockVideo). This version is actually "punchier" in sound terms. Thanks for this brilliant post.
I am in total agreement! It's been 41 years since it was cancelled and the memory of some episodes is still quite vivid. At the beginning of the 1968 TV season, ABC ran a very eerie ad for it, fittingly during "Dark Shadows", for one.
I appreciate the post. I had a vague memory of this intro from when I was probably 7 years old. No one knew what I was talking about.

I have NEVER forgotten that creepy opening. This was a great show and absolutely needs to be on DVD. If I could see "Eve" again I would die happy.

This series was made by Hammer Films. The British studio that produced loads of classic cult Horror films.
If anyone likes this they should check out the Hammer House of Horror tv series which was shown in 1980.

Very unusual using an amusement park at night for a title sequence for a suspense TV series. Thanks for sharing.

@TimelordR Would this have influenced the Naked Gun opening titles where the car appears to be riding the rollercoaster?

Only 17 episodes? Seemed like far more at the time. Was Eve the one who could see future happenings? Thanks for posting.

@Epc100
Hi
No, the future happenings episode you menion is called 'Somehwere in a crowd'.
'Eve' starred Dennis Waterman who fell in love with a Mannequin. Only he ever saw her 'alive'. Great series.
