Goin' home, goin' home, I'm a goin' home; Quiet-like, some still day, I'm jes' goin' home. It's not far, jes' close by, Through an open door; Work all done, care laid by, Goin' to fear no more. Mother's there 'spectin' me, Father's waitin' too; Lots o' folk gather'd there, All the friends I knew, All the friends I knew. (max allowable words)
I love you Mam. I'll be seeing you when its my time to go home. Not even 2months and it feels like I havent seen you in 2 years. I love you and thank you for everything.xxxx
@Maha1943 THANK YOU! Yeah, I had found that in a comment thread for another of her songs here on YouTube, and was going to provide that information, but you "beat me to it". NOW, the only problem is finding it. I've called 2 different large chain stores that sell CDs and DVDs and they can't find it available in the States. I'm still looking. Look up the word "frustrated" in the dictionary....my picture is there temporarily.
Thank you to the folks who have suggest other artists who have recorded this. I'm NOT a religious person at all, but as preparations for my final departure, I wanted to have this piece played at any memorial given for me. I've always hated "Amazing Grace" Plus, I've always loved Dvorak's "From the New World Symphony" OK, in addition to the other artists people have suggested, one other (on YouTube) that does it beautifully is Bryn Terfel. Thank you again.
@jbuckaroo82 Well OF COURSE I'm not "going ANYWHERE" when I die....NO ONE "goes" anywhere except into a casket and underground, or into a vault, or they're cremated and the remains scattered somewhere. The only point of my desire to have this played at any sort of memorial of "celebration of life" upon my death would be to satisfy those who are religious and need this sort of crutch to help THEM cope. And out of respect for me, I don't want "Amazing Grace" played....I HATE that thing!
Philosophical question (not to be snotty but just to make things interesting):
Where does your concern for others' feelings about your future demise come from? That is, if we are only so many cells congregating together, what does it really matter whether they are comforted or otherwise?
@PJwith12d Your body's not going anywhere - but your spirit might be? The idea that we are no more than a 'cosmic accident'/ bundle of cells may be true. But it may not be. If each view is equally incredible, it's also equally credible! It's a crazy world.
@Mosikito There are actually several variations of the lyric. Some accompany the music on the YouTube videos. You can also do a wikipedia search for "Goin' Home" or a Google search for "Going Home lyric" or "Goin' Home lyric".
@Maha1943 Thank you!! I've searched for this video, but have had no luck finding it. I've also searched for Mary Duff, and have found a CD with her doing this number, and am now trying to find it in a store.
I too like this recording. I'd also like to know who she is. Lovely lady with a lovely voice. I've always been a classical music fan, but never knew the history behind the writing of the "New World Symphony", so when I heard this vocal rendition and the Celtic Woman doing a different lyric under the title "Non Cè Più" I had to research it. I'm not a religious person, and I HATE "Amazing Grace", but I might request that this be played at my memorial when I die. (IF I can find it somewhere)
@PJwith12d Jane Froman does this quite well. I have this somewhere by the Morman Tabernacle Choir. In the television production, Eleanor and Franklin, Goin Home played in the background and center stage for Franklin's final trip from Warm Springs to Washington. Heartbreakingly beautiful. I had it played at my husband's funeral.
I love this song. It was played at my Grandmother's funeral, and I've played it in public myself a couple of times. The soloist here sang it wonderfully.
Dvorak wrote this song about the turmoil African Americans had to endure. Look it up. Though I think this song speaks for all that seek sanctuary and peace of mind.
@Ascaidh Interesting theory, but wrong. Actually Dvorak first heard this tune during his trip to America, being sung by the slaves, as a spiritual about the release from life's pain at death. He then returned to Czechoslovakia and composed the New World Symphony, which included this melody, as part of his impressions of the 'New World.
I have re-discovered this tune. I think I am going to start playing it at funerals. Antonin D"vorak's 9th Symphony Largo section was my introduction in his New World Symphony. I have an arragement set as an instrumental piano tune in a set of Classical Piano books from the University Series.
Unfortunately I do not know. I downloaded it following a link I have lost and was unable to find again. So I simply uploaded it again but lack the info.

gary. Thats hard. I don't think that the singer has strayed far from the composer's intention.
