And their heads are smaller too, and that's what makes lions / tigers bite more powerful. Lol jaguars are the third largest cat, Pantanal Jaguars are only smaller than male lions by about 50-75 pounds. This includes both genders. they're not that much smaller. But they are by far the strongest of the cat species. they are the most muscularly built plus they have double the bite force of the 2nd strongest biter in the feline family which is the tiger. All big cats kill by suffixation except the jaguar that kills by crushing it's prey's skull...a big jag can stand up to any lion.

The cheetah didn't evolve on the plains of Africa. It came from Northern Africa and Arabic countries and was introduced by man, which explains it's lack of success in Southern Africa.
So to say they evolved in the same place is just wrong.
For the jaguar and the tiger, where they evolved merely explains their coat markings, and their size is a reflection of the relative size of their prey.

The Jaguars are in South America, Tigers in India, and Lions and Cheetahs are in Africa. You group Lions and Cheetahs together, which makes sense due to their identical habitat. Jaguars and Tigers live in completely different corners of the globe.
Also, Lions and Cheetahs are built completely differently, whether you believe in evolution or not. They were meant for different prey, and require different builds to be successful with their respective prey.

Lions are tough animals, no doubt about that, but a jaguar, as cenon said, if one got a hold of the lions neck or limb, would break it in one snap of his jaws. Jags put out a bite force measured at 1200, tigers have been measured between 1100-1800, and lions only have 600-800. Opinions are one thing, but don't go mashing on others when they have facts to back their own up.
