  • He's great. If you disagree, you're fucking dilusional.

  • @EvekoRogue I can't even imagine what warped musical reality you live in if you think most of the solos Michael has came up with are "utter pieces of crap". You need to take your fanboy blinders off and realize that the composers of old weren't the only people that have ever created great music.

  • @EvekoRogue shut the fuck up!!!!!!!!!!

  • KILLER!! \m/ xD

  • I came

  • 1:06 Paul Gilbert rip-off ;)

  • paul gilbert wasnt the first, let alone the only person to string skip you jackass.

  • @watkent2 Hey Dude, I never said he was the first or the only. I was merely pointing out that what Romeo is playing here, is quite similar to PG's signiture licks.

  • @Willbartonrg550 Drinking some Haterade, I see...

  • @Willbartonrg550 You're crazy! String Skipping? wow....A lot of people do it.

  • Lol at this argument XD.

Shawn Lane was better then Yngwie by miles.. Michael Romeo wipes the floor with Yngwie in any way, Yngwie has got worse since his accident, jump off a bridge faggot, noone would care.

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen care to argue some more you fanboy pussy? ill verbally fucking decimate you for days.. its clear to me you're some 18 year old kid who thinks he knows what the fuck hes talkin about but guaranteed 200% you don't know anything about theory, anyone who knows even a little about guitar can respect Lane, and understand why he was so amazing, and you are such a ignorant piece of shit you make fun of his disease which claimed his life, fuck off you cocksucker, id stab your throat

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen oh and Paul Gilbert would literally fucking shit down malmsteens throat.. and if becker wasnt paralyzed he would laugh at Malmsteen, malmsteen was good from 82-89 now he blows, get a clue you faggot times have changed, you remind me of one of those jimi fanboys that wont stop riding his dick, fucking cumguzzlin faggot

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen you a douch bag........stop talking shit about guitar players. your videos suck. And these "fat bastards" can and always will play better than your sorry ass. Your vibrato is shit by the way. Do you even know what vibrato is?

  • yes i know what vibrato is..but you are commenting my video in which i used a 99 dollar squire guitar with shit pickups and fret noise..guitar sucks ass..but give me a yngwie malmsteen strat and ill smoke your ass any day any time...i play guitar even if it is not my first instrument..but im sure i can outplay your sorry ass

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen let the excuses fly... I had a band aid on my finger from finger banging my mom, and i got a friction burn. Just go away

  • i believe you about the band aid on your finger and fingering your mom..fucking INCEST BASTARD!

  • @HyperfastMalmsteen your an incredible idiot. stick with that.

  • can anyone tell me is that a esp mii ctm or stander guitar?

  • Looks like a standard one.

  • men, you should know that this was an improvisation

  • CHECK OUT BLEED ACAPELLA. its my top video of my channel. so take a look. =O)

  • clear influence is paul gilbert xD

  • I'd say Yngwie has had the biggest influence on Michael Romeo

  • yep yngwie is an influence, but I think his biggest influence is Shawn Lane...

    R.I.P. Shawn

  • Shawn is also a huge influence. You would be hard pressed to find a modern metal guitarist not influenced by Shawn or Yngwie.

  • @royfan3035 i'm a metal guitarist not influenced by shawn or yngwie

  • @ironwolg i was just speaking in generalities, of course not everyone is going to be influenced by shawn and yngwie

  • Michael often stated his influences, Randy Rhoads, Yngwie and Paul Gilbert among them, but he never stated Shawn Lane...

  • thumbs down, how is this a paul gilbert influence, michael romeo is same time period pretty much..

  • @alterbridge111 WTF are you talking about? @ 1:00 is a trademark gilbert lick

  • @SirJamestheIII no actually.. that would be yngwies signature mark if you want to be a douche about it.. and michael romeo skips way faster then both..

  • @alterbridge111 yngwie.... String skipping three note per string sequences. never happened.

    watch this: /watch?v=7X1WirRw0lk

  • @SirJamestheIII ive seen that for ages, check paul gilbert crazy solo i prefer those skips more

  • @alterbridge111 yeah i've seen like every video out there. saw him live too and got to meet him in person

  • @SirJamestheIII awesome, watch andy james contest video.. just type andy james contest watch the first one

  • @alterbridge111 LOVE ANDY JAMES. he is my favorite guy from the lick library series along with guthrie. first time i saw him was in that steve vai video

  • @SirJamestheIII actually that didnt work, type up ANDY JAMES Guitar solo contest that is the title :) cheers

  • @SirJamestheIII /watch?v=Lv5wtdfq6v0&

  • lol

  • romeo is a monster

  • Crazy stuff! I'd love to see the rest of that show.

  • I can compare yngwie and him in being fat!

  • what the fuck is that supposed to mean, "mulley"? You should have your house burned down and your animals raped, you pseudo-intellectual fucking prick. Fuck you.

  • god this guy's good but yet I guess he kinda let fans like me down by paradise lost. I mean it sure is a great piece but if I never knew them and heard this album as their first impresion, I wouldn't become the huge fan I am now. they should go back to their roots and romeo's GOTTA get that Mesa/EMG tone back...

ah what the hell...I love'em anyway...

  • YES!!! What you just said Chef Nic.......I've been trying to figure how to put that double axiom into effective words and you just nailed it.....SALUTE'

  • writing ability and emotion is always an opinion laid out by a majority of the population but speed and technicality is always a fact laid out by statistics and rate of difficulty that is why virtuoso guitarists are the best guitarists period because they can do both well.

  • It's so damn annoying when people act like just because they think that someones better than him, that he just sucks

Whoever you're favorite is, which Romeo is mine, they all put years and years into practice, give em some damn credit

  • Sorry man Michael Romeo IS Fucking the best ... He is not just an shreder he has a great feeling ... :)

  • I totally agree.

  • He's not the best, but he's up there.

  • So who is better? Don't tell me that this gay shredder Batio. The guitarist that are so close to him are Paul Gilbert, Satriani, Steve Vai or John Petrucci. I don't take only his speed skills but feeling, emotions and composition skills. All of those abilities are at the highest level and he's tone is genial. I bet there's no better guitarist :)

  • Well we can't argue anything other than speed and technical ability. Things like feeling and writing ability we can both just claim are better in this guitarist over the other and get nowhere because those things are a matter of tastes. ....

  • ..... As far as speed, technique, and arguably feeling and writing ability go MAB, Rusty Cooley, Jason Becker, Petrucci, Gilbert, Chris Impellitteri, Shawn Lane, and Malmsteen are each better.

  • MAB mechanical speed no feeling, Rusty Cooley great speed not much feeling, Jason Becker - Master of all God and Legend of Guitar and yes he is better even if he can't play, Petrucci perfect technique great feeling, Gilbert of course phenomenal player at all, Shawn Lane I really like Romeo more because Shawn was playing more jazzy, Impellitteri and Malmsteen I'm sure that they can't play 3/4 of Romeo stuff. Definitely only Jason Becker is better Gilbert and Petrucci are close

  • I'd agree with your statements about feeling if you re-worded them to saying they don't play with a type of feeling that you identify with. I also disagree with your statement that Chris and Yngwie can't play Romeo's stuff. I agree that Shawn's genre should have been metal and less jazzy, though.

  • you'll be surprised that romeo said in an interwiew that shawn lane is one of his biggest influence and the guitarist he admires the most....and obviously he's far superior to all guitarists above....

  • You are quite correct, good sir.

  • Not really. Romeo is good at what he does, but his phrasing and execution are bland, to say the least. I personally find that his solos sound like collections of exercises, but that's my personal taste.

There's nothing here that any other 'shredder' couldn't do exactly the same. Rusty Cooley or MAB could have played that. There's nothing distinctive about Romeo's playing at all that I've heard. Compared to Shawn Lane or Bireli Lagrene, for example, he is a mere novice.

  • collection of exercises? I'm sorry friend but you are wrong. You should check some phrasing of his solos from paradise lost like solos from set the world on fire, seven or eve of seduction. You should check his stuff from smoke and mirrors and especially from church of the machine and through the looking glass :) you will see :)

  • I'm sorry, but I've been directed to Romeo's supposed best work before. I've listened to his playing and it has never impressed me, for the reasons I stated. However, to each their own. :)

  • Ok i understand you but for me he is the best I mean for me his tone, style, solos which has destroying structure (smoke and mirrors, set the world on fire) are like eargasm... look on pharsing... he can go with notes with awesome tapping across the whole fretboard to the highest notes this moment is ubelievable... then the great descending... for me that's the point of guitar solos, this is feeling that most of guitar players (including me) trying to find. So Romeo is the best - my opinion :)

  • What's you stance on Jason Becker?

  • He was a good player, definitely. Great chops, and a feel to his playing that I feel is lacking in players like Romeo/Cooley/etc. His fast playing sounded natural, which I think makes the difference here. If I listen to something by Jason Becker, I don't so much get the 'HEY MOM! LOOK HOW FAST I CAN PLAY!' thing. A sad loss to the world of music, to be sure.

  • is he dead?

  • He has ALS. He lost the ability to play, and indeed use most of his muscles. He now communicates using eye movements, and writes music by tilting his head and moving his mouth to select notes. Very sad, but amazingly inspiring how he has persevered despite such hardship.

  • I was kind of agreeing with until the last sentence... I don't know is Lagrene is, but I know Lane. While I can say Lane was both better technically and musically IMHO, you can't just say Romeo looks like a novice... I personally prefer Romeo's phrasing to Lane's. Don't get me wrong, I listen to Lane's stuff often, it just doesn't hit me as much as Romeo does.

  • Lol... You can't compare Shawn Lane to Michael Romeo. Shawn Lane is just beyond this world

  • Indeed... I can't argue with that!

  • So....how does that mean you cant compare them?

  • Well you can but i wouldn't

  • @OzStrife You just compared them right there.

  • @OzStrife I think you can compare. I'll tell everyone he is the metal reincarnation of shawn. he is by no means as fast or as multi talented as shawn but when i see his fingers move across the fretboard you can see the similarities. he is IMO one of the cleanest if not the cleanest metal guitarist out there which reminds me much of shawn

  • @OzStrife but romeo is still amazing...But i agree shawn is not even human...Closest to shawn would be guthrie

  • @TheWhocares233 I reckon some of the fusion guys (Holdsworth anyone?) get pretty close to Shawn too.

  • @OzStrife silence drone!

  • @OzStrife

    of course.

  • Romeo is the man !

    Romeo/Vinnie Moore/Satriani rule !

  • such a bitch lol

  • SUch SPEEEED

  • I fucking hate those fucking idiots who cheer during the nice guitar solos, instead of listening and enjoying.

  • I agree, can't really hear it too well over their retarded wails.

  • TOTALLY AGREE !!

  • @aryaxt they pay to fuckin see the show they can do whatever they fuckin want mate. u peasant.

  • Comment removed

  • @aryaxt It's because they're having their minds blown. People express having their faces melted in different ways. Not everybody sits there like a monkey.

  • @aryaxt If I was delivering such an awesome guitar solo I would love it if people started to scream and cheer to show that they're enjoying it.

  • he'd tap that

    good guitarist

  • I definitely think he's the most technical player (shredding, tapping, sweeping, ease of playing in diff. scales, etc), followed by MAB, Jason Becker, John Petrucci, Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert. Rusty Cooley is another monster. But Malmsteen has the best vibrato and blues playing among all the shredders.

Alexi Laiho is the best 'new' shredder, followed by Jeff Loomis.

    These are just my opinions.

These guys practise tirelessly to get where they are, so they all deserve our respect.

    Peace

  • Lissen to Joe satrioni he actualy tout steev via how to play.

  • maybe i can teach you how to spell

  • i do agree that they do deserve our respect

  • alexi is a bit sloppy compared to every other guy you listed there, don't you think?

  • true, but he's still a pretty good composer

  • i think he doesn't train that much like in the past, but mostly i think it's his sound- he doesn't use neck pick-ups and the most gain and distortion possible- even if he plays pretty exact it sounds lil dirty

  • y eso que¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?

  • Fuck look at his fingers at 1:07

    He's not human.

  • tiene dedillos de salchicha

    pero como toca chingon

  • Comment removed by author

  • i hear more shouting than guitar solo

  • he has suck a dark sound.. AWESOME!!!!!!

  • zeke, listen racer X...

  • Comment removed

  • No he didn't.

  • uh, his style is no where near paul gilberts. its rare to see paul gilbert use the harmonic minor scale, and that is definately Romeo's cup of tea

  • You heard wrong dude, I've met Michael Romeo, face to face in person and he was cool as fuck. We shaked hands, he signed a CD booklet for me. And in the past few years he's cut down a lot of the weight. Probably tired of playing his ass off and all people can ever say is "he's fat" just to cut the guy down.

  • michael romeo knew what he's doing dont need any advise from anyone coz he prove that he is a good guitar player any finger can use as long as far as michael romeo is concern

  • Aybilatsingkarangyahu!!! Ayos burds!!!

  • what video is this from?

  • and why?, if e can tap with index finger that fast and clean as hell, let him play in the way he think it's better

  • he can tap with all of his fingers

  • I don't know think you're in a position to tell Michael Romeo how to play.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • yeah it does make more sense to use the middle finger. but who knows. maybe the index finger can physically move faster so it doesn't matter that you have to switch the pick

  • Yeah it would seem so, I used to use my index until i trained my middle, But Paul Gilbert and Romeo use this method and it doesn't seem to be a problem for them. I've decided that people don't need to lsiten to all this crap about perfect technique and all this. Alot of the big top players do things that would be considered as improper technique such as thumb over the board etc, but you should jsut do what is right for you, and have your own unique style.

  • well some things undoubtedly are bad to copy, but this doesn't really matter. like just use which is easier or whatever, and i think van halen used the forefinger, but he already picked holding it with his middle anyway so that was the most practical for him

  • I think it's all in preference. Not that I'm at Romeo's level, but when I do tapping sections in the middle of my solos (when I know I'll have to pick soon after), I use my middle finger because it's easier. When I do extended tapping passages, it feels better (and sounds better to me) to use my index. Whatever. Romeo kicks so much ass.

  • it might eventually get that way after some years if with callous and whatnot my middle gets too big or something, but i would like to learn some 8 finger tapping stuff anyway so that would include being able to do it with index

  • Yeah, that 8-finger stuff is the shit. I can't seem to get my right-hand pinky to do what I want it to do. It decides to go "mlah!" and point to the wall.

  • at least then there will finally be something good in my right pinky being like way thicker and stronger than my left. that has pissed me off for a while

  • Hell yeah man! Use that to your advantage! I've got freaky Vai fingers so I try to use a lot of stretches and stuff like that.

  • You're lucky, I have chubby little romeo hands. But they get the job done.

  • Hey, getting the job done is what matters!

  • totally, I just tap more like Romeo instead of doing huge strectches.

  • hahah I have Paul Gilberts hands... monster!

  • 0:09 - 0:14

    INDEX FINGER OF DOOM! O:

  • They should ask this dude to be on G3..either him or Michael Angelo

  • that climactic lick was shit-your-pants good.

  • aprende a hablar ingles no pendejo?

aprende a hablar ingles no pendejo?

aprende a hablar ingles no pendejo?

  • That Alternate Pick Run @ :40 Makes Me Sad. =)

  • aprende a hablar ingles no pendejo?

  • I haven't listened to Michael Romeo much or Ywngie Malmsteen. But who would between the two??

  • Don't bother comparing guitar players. It all comes down to musical preference.

  • michael romeo was influenced by yngwie malmsteen...

  • Little question. What is more difficult to play? Scuttle butting or Arpeggios From Hell? I think Yngwie takes far more effort and talent to perform flawlessly.

  • There both just ace! prefer Romeo to be honest! got some weird phrasing!

  • Plus, all great guitarists have some technique or something that they are really good at. Michael Romeo can tap out arpeggios nicely, chris Broderick can do 8 finger tapping, Rusty Cooley plays 4 notes per string, and Yngwie has a lot of talents too. So eventhough they can all alternate pick and do the regular stuff about the same, they all have strengths in some areas that the other guitarists might be weaker at. No one is the best at everything.

  • check out fernando miyata.....

  • lol, who would "own" romeo?!

by being influenced doesn't state that the influence is better than the one playing

if petrucci is the master, romeo is the devil himself playing guitar

    and you call others "bitches"

  • probably the best sweep tapper in the world an one of my favourites

  • Damn that noisy crowd!

  • Looks like he's put on fast forward, but it's kinda freaky to know he's not... Makes me wanna smash my guitar on my computer screen

  • he would own us all just with his left hand, so stop ur bitching ladies xD

  • great but a little too noisy

  • Right. When is your next CD release coming out hotshot?
