What I really love about these old episodes is you really get that "stage performance" atmosphere. I don't know if they filmed in front of a live audience or what have you - but this feels like a stage play, not a TV show. I think that's an important distinction that needs to be made, and is mostly what made this show so powerful and captivating for not just kids but parents too.
@Thompsongs What freezing miserable days in winter? At least in winter, if it gets "too cold", you can always add bundles to warm you, otherwise in summer, you can only remove so much before you get arrested for indecent exposure.
And lemme tell ya, after the record-breaking miserablesummer we just had with day after day after day after day of temps at 105, 110, 115, I cannot WAIT for winter.
@GroverKent Well, I see what you're saying. If you enjoy winter, that's cool, and I hope this one is a good one for you. I'm just a spring and summer person myself.
@ 0:30, we see the walk-through fountain behind the McGraw-Hill Building (or whatever they're calling it now off 6th Avenue between 48th and 49th streets.
I can remember catching a glimpse of it during my fist visit to NYC and thinking, "Yay! Sesame Street fountain!"
The opening to Sesame Street that I remember as a little girl of the 80's was different. It's a bit of a blur now. I was ages 4 to 9 btwn 1984 and 1989. I remember also seeing a statue of a Roman soldier (seriously). i think that soldier was just a logo for a university or scholarship foundation. Sesame Street of the late 80's - 1987, 1988 and 1989 was influenced by MTV - using music videos and funny short cartoons. I remember Maria and Jose, the Latino couple who had a baby
@Darren50001 Hi. This is not from the 70s. Will Lee, who played Mr. Hooper died in late 1982. So up till 1982, you saw Mr. Hooper. BUT, they didn't explain that Mr. Hooper died until late 1983.
This opening sequence is actually from the 70s. (It goes back at least as far as '78). In the old days they really didn't update the opening very often. (They were still using parts of the 1972 opening as late as 1988).
i use to have hots for maria

I saw Mr. Hooper, the late actor I believe died in the 70s, so this has to be the 70s opening.

1:52 "Oh never mind, Oscar, it's too hot to explain." I love the way she delivers that line.

Is this the original version of the opening? Sounds like it, or at least close. The best version, IMO.

I like how at the end, Oscar tells us to lieve him alone.
