  • The ladder, brought by the Chinese was placed there in "53 and was removed for this climb by Conrad and Leo, Conrad wanted to see if it was possible for George Mallory to climb the second step, which would have made Mallory the first to summit the mountain.Conrad was the one who discovered the body of Mallory and since finding the body became obsessed with proving the famous climber could have summited. For more info watch the documentary "The Wildest Dream" Which chronicles this climb in detail

  • @sensualsweety sorry not "53 I meant to type "73. Anyway the climbing of the step without the use of the ladder or the fixed ropes was very dramatic. The climbing there is very exposed and the drop from that point would be fatal. But they concluded that the feat was within Mallory's capability. Of course Mallory's summit that day can never be proved and a succesful summit is only so when you return alive.

  • video quality is horrendous which makes the contents mute.

  • why all the "dislikes"?

  • Why are they climbing the second step at this time of the morning??

  • @petejones216 : as far as I know, you must summit before 2pm, because after summiting, you need to go back down and this takes time, the night is not far away and going down by night is far much more difficult that by day. Besides I heard weather changes in afternoon.

  • @petejones216 because it takes time to reach the summit a lot of people died in 1996 because the summited to late

  • @Spazinima I no i just meant why arent they climbing in the dark for morning summit.

  • Kirat tribe is one of the oldest group in the world. Kirat also find references in RigVeda ~the oldest text dating back some 2000BCE--1800BCE where Kiratas fought the Aryan(Caucasoid) people. It's only after the fall of Hindu government that natives Kirat have been coming into limelight.

plz respect my ancestors and Kirateswor sacred place(Everest). You can learn more about Kirat tribe here at this video --> "sakela~the greatest festival of kirat people"

    thank you

  • North East ridge. wow, way to be awesome!! I hope i get to be as sick climbers as you guys are some day. I respect anyone climbing at the altitude. 8,000 meters is a different class all together.

  • I'm sorry, take the damn ladder down and any permanent ropes. Make it as Nature did. Almost impossible.

  • @davidleealford Yeah Dave you're right. And I'm sure you leave your car at home though and walk instead, you don't use your phone - go and visit people like we used to, and you don't ever drink anyhting but water and milk from the udder. Otherwise you'd be a hypocrite in regard to natural things.

  • @daggyz1959 the general population wants it easy. Those that want to climb a mountain should climb a mountain, not a ladder. lol

  • @davidleealford

Yeah, I suppose your right, but when it's there you just use it. To be a purist, lets make all climbers not use ropes, goggles, pills to combat blood issues or oxygen either? Its all artificial after all. Lets, not use helicopters to ferry the sick and injured off the mountain, and God forbid we use a ladder to cross the southside crevasses like Hillary did!

  • @daggyz1959 ok then the argument of extremes fails, and the positive side

is we would have a real Mt. Everest. The name itself should give pause to those who wish to diminish the ultimate.

  • I can't believe the garbage that's been posted on here! Conrad and Leo - big respect from the English lake district! Awesome stuff at awesome altitude with unbelievable exposure. Just a shame that such a lot of trash has been talked instead of hats being tipped. Onwards and upwards, then down once again...

  • How long does it take to climb the three steps? Im hoping that ill get to make my summit push in about 7 years just getting some facts

  • wow. such potty mouths.

  • Wow, mistttyvampire, i'm 12 years old and have better grammer then you. Its quite funny actually..

  • "i'm 12 years old and have better grammer then you. Its quite funny actually."

Perhaps. But you still have pretty poor grammar and spelling:

*I*'m 12 years old and *I* have better gramm*a*r th*a*n you. It*'*s quite funny actually.

  • I talking about mistttyvampire for the first comment I left.

  • mistttyvampire is a slut, read the comments they left by, no self esteem. lol... and good job of making it that far up everest.

  • what was the temperature?

  • !! Why is there a comment argument happening on every video about everest?

  • Miss titty vampire has got some serious problems that need urgent attention. She thinks she can take on mountaineers who are some of the fittest people around, and who don't think twice about putting their lives at risk of falling thousands of feet to their deaths, never mind booting the living daylights out of her, but more likely a 10 yr old! The video was a good account of the struggle involved to climb Everest, and a gift to those who have the same dream, but cant go for whatever reason!

  • Yeah, missttyvampire is a scabby PUSSY and probably takes it up the ass. I hate pussies like that who talk lots of shit. If some asshole like that rolled up at my doorstep I'd put him in the ground with my footprint on his ugly fucking face. Dickless piece of shit.

  • oh and btw, just a little comment on your ...so proud "physical ability", all u said was " "maybe" i already did climb the worlds..." and " "if" i could ..." well.. everyone can type that and we don;t need a lesson on "how to show off your self in internet without any proof" i would say whoever were in that clip is 100 times stronger than someone who can only type like u, d.i.c.k.h.e.a.d!!!!

  • mistttyvampire,i will go straight to the point here... Have u ever wondered why your meal stink like s.h.i.t? Yea well, it IS s.h.i.t! Your mum can only feed u`s.h.i.t that's why your mouth talk thrash all the time, i'm pity for u.

  • it seems wanna be ganster has missed the entire video with her yakidy yak, cool gangsta talk, you wish!

  • you should really sort out yor grammer pal,it's rubbish.

    you also talk utter crap.

i happen to of climbed with the leo and he is climbing royalty.

    respect to the climbers involved

  • thanks for posting this. enjoyed it.

  • check out my blog lv a comment

  • err.., maybe not, i dont think this is going to happen really, do you?

  • yes i do really think its going to happen and you better believe it punk cause i keep my word. and come this time around if you still up in here makin a fool of youre self then i might just have to show you how badly I can kick your ass.

  • wow.

  • LOL, I'd like to see you try to climb a mountain. you wouldn't survive one day over 14,000 feet, and then you'd still have oh, I don't know, maybe another 15,000 feet to climb before you got to the top. Yeah, go ahead and try it, I dare you. LOL.

  • maybe I already did climb the worlds tallest mountin in record time and maybe I did it so fast that no one saw me do it. you wouldent know either way because you too retarded to tell the difference. Mountin climin is for pussies anyway why would I want to clime a fuckin mountin if I could just kick your ass instead pussy. yeah thats right bitch keep embarassing yourself in front of everyone because everyone knows that I can and will kick your ass any day of the week with my bare fish.

  • Its ok, your special in your own special way <3

  • Are you insane?

  • WEll even I know I wouldn't survive over 14,000 feet, and yes while you are entitled to your opinion, I just have to ask, why do you post such hateful comments towards people who just want to live their lives the way they want to, and I don't want to fight you. ANd lastly, take a joke for what it's worth and stop being mad at the world for once. Keep kool and take it easy yo. 8-)

  • Wow... u r such a dirty little whore. u must have no self esteem, and i would love 2 c u climb everest... and if u did climb as fast as u said u climbed it, you probably b dead. so shut your fucking face and get on with your life.

    ... ur mommy doesn't love u :)

  • 28,000 feet is the alttitude planes go...fricking nuts.

  • Just a final remark: why it's called the death zone: because human there is literally dying. Rule of the thumb is : get up there and immediatelly return. Heroic example of almost fatal experience was 1953 climb of Hermann Buhl on Nanga Parbat. He spent night standing at alt. of 26500ft, which many consider almost impossible.

  • The guy climbing in the movie Conrad Anker is one of the best rock climbers in the world. His intention was to prove or disprove possibility of climbing the second step without Chinese ladder (and hence the possibility of MalloryIrvine made it to the summit).

  • Bet you would be boring like death in the Everest "death zone". It's a place where human body doesn't regenerate, blood oxygen levels are desperatelly low, and when you stay there too long, body would simply collapse.

  • Continued ...

The Chinese in their 1960 attempt were so desperate, that they mounted a ladder in the most critical place. The guy who actually mounted the ladder, payed the cost in terms of severe frostbites and subsequent fingers amputation.

For those who label it fake: no way, I've seen dozens of second step pictures and I immediatelly recognized the place.

For those labelling the video boring: be sure that you would not want to have a party leisure in vertical rock at 28000ft.

  • actually the chinese in 1960 stood on each others shoulders to get up the step. The ladder was put there later. The more intrepid climbers prefer to free climb the step by using a crack in the rocks rather than use the ladder but most use it in the most difficult section.

  • I think someone else also stated this, but during the 1960 Chinese expedition, one climber actually removed his gloves, boots and socks to get a better grip on the wall. By eventually standing on another climbers shoulders and hammering two pitons into the wall he was able to clear the second step, although he lost his toes and parts of his fingers during the process.

It was actually the 1975 Chinese expedition that brought the ladder with them that has been used there since

  • Just for those who have no idea about "second step": it's a relatively smallish rocky barrier very high on the north-eastern ridge of Everest, about at altitude about 8500m (28000ft). It's a technically tricky place and (although it would not be inclimbable in lower altitudes) it is rumoured that this place stopped Mallory&Irvine from climbing the mountain.

  • hey father jim... f off!

  • my diiack!!!

  • good video

  • those books are so gay

  • !!!!!!!!

  • Ha ha! Yeah, at least show someone falling off the side to their death! Seriously, I respect those climbers for their physical ability, I just question there judgment.

  • is Leo free-climbing

  • Can't imagine why he'd be aiding :)

  • Terrible audio on my side.

  • Please call it Jo-mo-lung-ma (the holy mother of earth), not Everest. Changing names requires changing the sentiment of people who treat this mountain as one of the holy mountains. click this name and predict what will be happening in 5yrs behind this mountain.

  • Like watching paint dry at 28,140 feet...it's a bit more challenging. At this altitude, it can kill you.

  • watching paint dry is a blast as well.

  • This is the worst video I have ever seen on YouTube.

  • seriously

  • tip: it would have been funier if you fell off and really hurt yourself, better ratings.

  • If he died on everest you would not be talking about it lier

  • My father died on everest. :(

  • i was on the lhotse once

  • whats amazing is how many people you pass on the way up dead seen 4 weird how they do that there being sacred and such coming up the spine.

    goodluck

  • crikey the wack job CT's are even up everest now...!! LOL

  • that is noway fake it looks amazing. do they use satalite to send stuff to the net? how does it work and the costs of how they do it

  • Youtube, digg, and tons of other websites are subjected to these jackasses.

  • i cant even tel waht this is supposed to be. get at my videos section

  • aye looks fake to me also. The one dude at the top has a hawaiian shirt on and shorts I think

  • You've obviously never seen a down suit for Himalayan climbing.

Anyone saying its fake has absolutely no idea.

  • bollocks

  • Fake

  • fake? are you stupid or jealous

  • Both. But it's still an obvious fake.

  • seriously, why would they call this fake

  • i want to climb everest some day, but someone told me the climbing license costs thousands of pounds...not cool.

  • mommy...

  • The permit itself is not really that costly, it's the funding of an expedition to stay on the mountain for a month. Plus, hiring guides to take non-mountaineers on mountains is a fool's game.

  • I want to see whats down!!!

  • get a job

  • cool :)

  • CCCCCCOOOOOOLLLLL

  • we want to see more ! :)
