Milk protein is indeed 80% casein. If you're drinking milk with 3% protein, about 2.4% of that of casein. That's 2.4grams per 100 milliliter (yes I'm european).
Problem is, you'll have to drink a LOT of milk before you go to bed to get anywhere near 30 or even 20 grams of protein. After a few hours, you'll be awake to take a piss, ruining your sleep. That's why a powder is much more practical.
Save your money and drink two cups of skim milk before bed or a half a cup of low/nonfat cottage cheese. Just get regular whey protein if you weigh 200+ lbs and bodybuild. If you weigh less than this you can easily get enough protein from food.

Its thickness is what makes glue like paste edible in the first place; hence kids eating paste in preschool. Casein is thick because it is the ONLY protien extracted without any chemicals and does not need heat to be extracted. If i were you i would learn how to make assumptions before assuming casein means glue.

Maybe this will help you, I've stopped taking Casein at night because so many people told me to and there is no difference in my muscle mass, I acutally tracked it on the machine at my gym. That is my experinence, maybe its just me but I don't think so.

Casein protein does actually encourage tumour formation. Don't forget that milk is a mixture of casein AND whey protein, whey has been shown to have anti-cancer activity, so there is possibly a protective effect. Casein is apparently "slow" digesting so it's better for sleeping etc etc. Unfortunately casein is still digested pretty quickly when compared to meat or eggs. Casein is a bullshit protein stay away from it. If you want a genuine slow protein then eat some eggs before you go to bed.

Not everyone who smokes cigarettes gets cancer. Something doesn't need a 100% cancer rate to be a risk. A typical serving of pure casein protein has more then 400% more casein than a glass of milk, so that's another bad comparison. Either way, casein is probably a waste of money since your body metabolizes protein more slowly when you sleep anyway, and likely it's no better than just eating an egg.

no. What I do...is I take no more than 20g of whey before I workout, then afterwards I'll take around 30 to 50g with milk which of course has protien, then before I sleep I'll have some casein. I throw the discus and I've been doing this routine for years and it's great. Just have to be careful what meals you eat because you don't wanna get fat. Hope my comment helped.

The down side of casein is you have to drink it fast before it turns to gel. Otherwise the texture can cause a gag reflex. This has been my experience using casein. If you are curious as to how it contributes to long lasting protein synthesis, make a shake and watch it turn to gel. It will turn into a very thick paste.
Optimum Nutrition. I take my whey protein within 20 minutes after each work-out. I also have a high protein dinner such as BBQ Salmon, Tune steaks or Tilapia. I have PB mixed with honey and granola for a dessert. Right before I hit the sack and always 2 hours after my dinner I down my casein shake: Casein (42g) and flax seed (2tsp) with Skim milk, Glutamine powder-unflavored (5g) and Melatonin (3g) drops. I sleep like so good and my muscles are still receiving protein slowly through the night.

@attemptthis whey protein mixed with milk, whey is the only protein high in BCAA's which are crutial for growth, so by mixing a 25 gram plus serving of whey with about 10 grams of milk (regular 1 cup serving) you get alot of high quality whey and a little casien, but as far as powder goes stick with whey dude best protein hands down, use milk for casien it has some whey but its a good source, of slow digesting protein, which isnt bad, just not worth its money over whey

Not everyone who smokes cigarettes gets cancer. Something doesn't need a 100% cancer rate to be a risk. A typical serving of pure casein protein has more then 400% more casein than a glass of milk, so that's another bad comparison. Either way, casein is probably a waste of money since your body metabolizes protein more slowly when you sleep anyway, and likely it's no better than just eating an egg.

@complimentsheck that's not true. Every body has a unique genetic profile, exposure to other carcinogens and drinks differing amounts of milk and other foods. It's like the dude that smokes for his whole life, but lives till he's 80. Well, does that mean that everyone that smokes doesn't get cancer? Nope, everyone's unique. And that man may have lived till 90. It's complex, but it appears that casein contributes to cancer growth.

no. What I do...is I take no more than 20g of whey before I workout, then afterwards I'll take around 30 to 50g with milk which of course has protien, then before I sleep I'll have some casein. I throw the discus and I've been doing this routine for years and it's great. Just have to be careful what meals you eat because you don't wanna get fat. Hope my comment helped.

The down side of casein is you have to drink it fast before it turns to gel. Otherwise the texture can cause a gag reflex. This has been my experience using casein. If you are curious as to how it contributes to long lasting protein synthesis, make a shake and watch it turn to gel. It will turn into a very thick paste.

Optimum Nutrition. I take my whey protein within 20 minutes after each work-out. I also have a high protein dinner such as BBQ Salmon, Tune steaks or Tilapia. I have PB mixed with honey and granola for a dessert. Right before I hit the sack and always 2 hours after my dinner I down my casein shake: Casein (42g) and flax seed (2tsp) with Skim milk, Glutamine powder-unflavored (5g) and Melatonin (3g) drops. I sleep like so good and my muscles are still receiving protein slowly through the night.

It taste horrible, it will keep u full for the night so thats good, but once again the taste is worst than anything ive ever tasted. So i would suggest take whey and mix it with skim milk that has simiar affect and will save u a bit of money and taste 100 times better.
