  • Well in all fairness, when you have bowlers who bring something "different", they are able to cause trouble the first time. Malinga did the same with NZ batsmen and Fidel Edwards against Sri Lanka.

  • same thing for googly except abdul qadir discoverd it !

  • im not saying sri lankans are stupid but this guy is because pakistans saqlain mushtaq discovered doosra and wen he was playing he called it doosra becuase in pakistan language doosra means other way saqlain called it that cause he bowled off break but it went as a leg break and mendis gave leg breake but discized it and called it doosra and no one should call it doosra except pakistanis because doosra is in our language im pakistani and why do others take our language and say it

  • hes not a mystery spinner its no real trick in it just a flick of fingers

  • doosra is bowled by the offspinner

and googly is bowled by leg break bowler

and both doosra and googly is the wrong 1!

  • whats different between doosra and googly?

  • A googly is a leg break bowled with the hand facing the other way (palm toward the bowler) so the ball turns the "wrong" direction - i.e. it turns as if bowled by a finger spinner (off-spinner).

A doosra is the finger-spinners equivalent (hand the wrong way around so it turns like a leg-break).

The ball they call a doosra here is spun with the fingers but is delivered almost more like a conventional leg-break than a doosra.

Hope that helps, otherwise go to wikipedia

  • The carrom ball, is it going to left side after touching the ground or straight?(by right hand off spinner)

  • Is the Mendis magic losing its "magic"

Its easy to play him out if the batsmen play attacking cricket against him.....

But hope he finds a way out...

  • IS that Doosra or carrom ball?

  • He can bowl both doosra and carrom ball

In the video both are shown

  • 'The advantage that modern people have over perhaps people from your era' I thought he said from your area first time i heard it. lol

  • the carrom is not a doosra. its more like an arm-ball

  • 3rd Replay is not a Doosra but a Carom Ball bowled by flicking middle finger.I think if he gets picked he won't get any wicket but by that time he would have 200 wickets to his name.

  • "by that time he would have 200 wickets to his name. "--he is already being picked up easily byindian batsmen.....even by yuvraj who is a bunny for good spin bowlers...others will follow soon enough.

he is just an average bowler............

  • Yes,this is a fact that the Mendis is picked by most of the Asian batsmen but the teams like Australia,South Africa.England etc.would take a lot of time to pick him.

  • 34 wickets from 6 tests at an average of 23...and 64 wickets in 28 ODI's at an average of 13...yeah the guy's "average".

He may be young and batsman may adapt to his bowling style, but he's so very young with so much time to improve.

To add to the previous point, Ishan is correct it's not the doosra it's the carrom. Yes the ball turns like a doosra or leg-break would but because of that action it makes it his own unique delivery.

  • saqulain was even more talented....but was barbecued once his doosra was figured out....

besides....mendis still doesnt have a proper stock delivery to improve upon...all he banks on is his paul adamsque element of surprise....a novelty that fades away pretty fast.

BTW, mendis was not the first bowler to have a 'carrom ball'.....just research what happened to the career of the original 'carrom ball' guy!!

  • I think Saqlain's record of 208 wickets at 29.83 counteracts your "barbecued" theory, ditto that in regards to 288 ODI wickets at 21.78. His problem was he began overusing it, so the surprise element from his play disappeared.

The "carrom ball" originator "Jack Iverson" took 21 from 5 tests at an average of 15.23, but gave up the game a) through injury and b) he didn't disguise the ball well.

Mendis is young and will choose one to eventually be a stock, but til that point, why shouldn't...

  • ...continue to bowl variety when people are still struggling to pick him. He'll struggle at some point, and it'll be either the making or breaking of him whether or not he progresses from there. The thing he has in his favour in his seeming ability to adapt which someone like Panesar hasn't shown, and that could be what seems him through the tough times.

  • spinners...especially finger spinners have a long life...saqlain did not....at the fag end of test career, he wasnt a threat even for tail enders...and hence the barbecue.

iverson was picked up quite easily later on...refer the commentaries of his contemporaries...literally ended up waste anyway...not particularly due to some "ill disguise induced injury"(please note the sarcasm before you post a silly retort)

  • Harbhajan is doing pretty well for himself as a finger spinner and while Murali is unique he is classified as a finger spinner. In regards to your tetchy comment attached onto the end, do not think you are so subtle that it goes unnoticed.

It's not even up for debate that Mendis has the potential to reach some very notable milestones in his career if he learns, takes care of himself and follows through in honing his undoubted ability. The majority of the games contemporaries that have...

  • ...played against him, and those cricketing pundits that watch the game thoroughly have noted that Mendis is special with the ability to be extra special. With that in mind you'll have to forgive me if I scoff that YOU, being the highly respected and noted authority on cricket that you are aside, think he'll wind up being nothing short of a pedestrian bowler. Your arrogance is only surpassed by your ignorance bvindh and I joyfully await another deluded riposte.

  • evidently, even the most unsubtle of comments confound you!! after all, you missed the logic of my previous statements.

if you gay worship mendis....well, again, have a ball!! but spare us humans from your drivel

  • Not at all bvindh, you just lack any acumen in any field whatsoever. Your statements had no logic, merely opinion fueled by some deep seated jealousy whereby you hope beyond all hope he doesn't succeed. Suddenly your ripostes aren't so constructed now I've highlighted you as being the ill-informed, pseudo-intelligent, wrongly opinionated moron that you are, who has little to no authority on cricketing matters yet deludes himself into thinking he does. I know responding to you is a fallacy...

  • ...your head is planted so firmly up your own backside you wouldn't be able to hear my words even if you were attempting to listen.

Although it is interesting how you turn it into "gay worship", you have issues bvindh seeing how when you're coming out on the losing side of an argument you boil the premise down to the most puerile and childish of levels. If people like you were in charge of cricket, people like Mendis wouldn't be allowed to flourish, I've merely stated he has the potential...

  • ...to succeed, whether he will or not is entirely another matter, but how about enjoying the fact that he's had such a prosperous start to his career and that we're witnessing someone that is unique to our time, instead of simply running them down just because he somehow offends you. And I would recommend you wait for your lab results to return before you start making bold claims that you're in the same homosapien genus as the rest of us. Good day.

  • nice effort at self-reflection! dont take my word....consult any qualified psychiatrist...he will tell you!!

also would be noted are the frantic efforts to compensate for the self image of insignificance in real life

  • Bravo, another syllogistic failure on your part. Your diversionary tactic of resorting to ad hominem circumstantial proves you've already retired hurt.

  • nope! it simply exposes the fact that you are neither capable of logical thinking nor have intellectual honesty and that you would rather hide your shame under the egotistic guise of sophistry...all the while half-heartedly hoping that i would be...*ahem* retired hurt!!

  • There was no logical thinking in your opinionated bile, to think as such is delusional. Point me in the direction of your spin bowling related logic and I shall yield, however I truly believe you are incapable to do as such hence you've changed tact and employed the ad hominem jargon you type. I see no shame in maintaining my stance throughout and have justified my arguments to the point where you've abandoned any cricketing based logic and resorted to playground tactics.

  • further proof that your world entirely consists of your own supreme magnificence!!

    .....consult a good psychiatrist...now!

  • I know you've undoubtedly typed up something of extreme worth but for some reason whenever I read you segments and see you backing further and further away from your flawed, and ultimately failed, point I get an image of Graham Chapman from "The Holy Grail" shouting "RUN AWAY!".

  • that's an illusion caused by the phenomenon of me standing still w.r.t. the reference frame called Earth and you running away from me w.r.t. the same reference frame

  • if you like mendis...well, enjoy and have a blast!! i only see him ending up a pedestrian bowler with a short career(unless the SL cricket is really desperate).

  • Love the sense of joy on Colin Croft's face when talking about this kid....brilliant

He really does look to be extra extra special

Not really had too much of a chance to see him live so I cant wait to see him over here in the UK

  • I must admit i thought Sri Lanka were going to have problems once Murli retires but they have got the replacement he can be just as good with the way he's started!

  • the thing is endis is unconventional and it will tk some time for any batsman to pick him, but once he is picked by batsman, he will be ordinary.. every batssman is playing him for 1st time...

  • This guy will be picked by top class batsman like hayden, hussey etc., but only after playing more against him.....the indians picked him up better adn won the one day series especially raina and dhoni..

  • The internet is GLOBAL.

Besides, your weak denials don't fool me: I know, and you know, that you want me. But you can't have me. You have a 'thing' for hillbillies, and after all who can blame you: you are only human!

  • just because the indians cant play spin for shit, doesnt mean he is the greatest bowler yadadada.

maybe in 2 years you can say he is great, but im thinking he is more of a one season wonder

  • You are an idiot, don't u realise that Indians are the best players of spin in the world, if Mendis can get wickets against India, he is going to be absolutely amazing, maybe like Murali, the Aussies will figure out how to play him but everyone else will just not be able to do nothing against him.

Indians are awesome against spin, haven't you noticed that spinners' career averages are generally higher at the end of a series vs India than at the start, check your facts before you say dumb shit.

  • What makes you say that the aussies will be able to pick him? (I'm australian by the way), If you ask me I'd say that sri lanka don't play australia enough for them to adjust to him. Also I believe that the aussie team is on the way down, that it is only riding on the purple patches of some players (ie hussey). Don't get me wrong, they still have a solid team but lack that extra element that warne and mcgrath gave. That element, Sri lanka now have in mendis.

  • sri lanka can challenge australia if they can get their batting right, sri lanka may have the best bowling attack but batting is letting them down badly , until sri lanka gets their batting back on track there is no challenging australia. its great to see an aussie saying good things about a sri lankan thanks for that

  • Well the way I see it, this is good for cricket and good for sri lanka. You know, just because I live in Australia, it doesnt mean I'm tied down to the belief that Australia should win every game and I think its about time that others start to beleive as I do so that they can appreciate some good talent in the world. BTW you are exactly right about SL's batting and the key to its consistency is Sangakarra, hopefully he gets out of his little rut he's found himself in!

  • My prediction( srilanka will win the champions trophy this year with the help of mendis & he will be man of the tournament)

  • dont you feel stupid now?

  • Go Mendis Go.. Let's fuck Aussie and English Umpires to think of ways to catch you and say you are chucking.. that's the only thing these loosers know... Let's fuck them .....

  • sanath or ajantha can single handedly win them the next year's t20wc in england

  • I don't care if you are Sri Lankan: I am not going to have sex with you!

  • Mystery Mendis will kick the austrailin asess

  • lets hope they unleash him on the aussies

  • WATCH OUT WORLD!!! NO 40 is unleashed!!

  • great
