  • thanks for the tips..

  • They made a big 'hairy' deal out of the Booms made with human and animal hair but hair sinks and the booms with hair did just that, but they never bothered to try this and this would have worked.

  • what does a gay horse eat?

    He-eh

  • Why are people hating on these guy's idea? Unlike some jackasses out there *cough*BP*cough*, at least these guys are putting in significant effort to solve the problem.

  • Get that hay out on the ocean!

  • he should try it with the whole thing of oil

  • Look at how much water was gone after the hay was removed. Over half.

  • @0wlsey what? no youre dumb. Look at the beginning water lvl, and just skip to the end of the video. Over half of the water is not gone what are you on?

  • Yeah because you can put hay 1 mile below the ocean floor........

  • they use hay now for oil, gas and diesel spills. I don't know why they won't just send hay out in the boat load to absorb the oil that is gushing into the gulf.

  • This wouldn't work.

Please just think about all the variables in this scenario.

It's not a bowl of water, it's the ocean.

There is wind, waves and no giant sieve.

You can't have boats floating in the oil, it's a hazard (imagine being surrounded by a sea of flammable and noxious oil)

You also can't have people destroying their own nets by tangling them in a mesh of hay and deisel fuel.

You may as well have shown a demonstration of a man skimming the oil off the top with a giant spoon.

  • @rocksolidpie do you have a better idea?

  • @gypsydust

    No.

Does that mean that this method is any more valid or implementable?

    No.

"We've got to do something, anything rather than sit back and watch it happen"

isn't actually the attitude you want to have for such a delicate situation.

  • Hay was the answer in Santa Barbara.

  • This idea is great. You should be able to burn the dried oily hay and burn it in a biomass power plant. It will make the manual clean up much simpler on the beachses because it aggregates the oil and makes it where you can pick it up with a rake ,pitch fork or gloved hand. The oily hay could also be picked up by machines with a simple rake attachment. Well done

  • So what happens to air quality when you incinerate that much oil and hay?

  • i hope BP chooses to use this way it could just work

  • I'd like to say, Hay works good, but we don't have too many hay fields down here.

We had a freeze here, and killed thousands of palms, their trunks are fiber/hair.

Cut down trees on location, grind, ship to Tampa oil soaked to incinerator for elec

We have the equipment ready to go, just off the beach. Authorities won't return phone calls. One palm makes a car size pile of hair. They make burlap socks a mile long to blow palm fiber in. 4 foot diameter booms are possible. contact me

  • I hope that the answer is really this simple...

  • thanxs i hope the yklean it fastt

  • If you still need to skim the water for the hay then there is no point. You might as well skip the hay and just skim the oil. Not to mention that only about 2 or 3% of the oil is on the surface. Use the microbes.

  • LMAO THEY'RE SO STUPID HAHA I CANT STOP LAUGHING!!!

  • LOL Look at these stupid hicks that are trying to be famous or something

  • Could it really be that simple?

  • use the microbs like they have in the past with fantastic results... or explain why not... explain why its not already been used...

  • You'd need a monumental amount of hay for a start, and then you would need to get it all out again and dispose of it properly. Then the oil is still flowing out thousands of gallon's a day anyway. There needs to be a cure for this problem, and the only way to solve it is to drill a relief well. With a relief well in place you can abstract oil from it which intern will relief pressure from the leaking well and give the chance to properly grout the thing up and be done with it once and for all! ;)

  • These guys know what they are talking about.

  • If we wait for for BP or the Goverment, to put this idea and others, to work, to clean up the mess, there will be more damage done. People get out of your labs, and do something. We the People must start taking care of ourselves and stop waiting on others to do it for us. Otherwise just shut up, and let it happen to you!

  • @dustergirl107 Send an email to the @WhiteHouse

  • Hey, just because they have southern accents doesn't mean they're "rednecks." Using shrimp boats is a great idea, too. I hope they use this idea to help clean up the spill.

  • More like a perfect example of a couple of entrepeneurs versus a multinational corporation with a stake in the chemical company that makes the toxic dispersant they are dumping in the gulf.

  • now just get a HUGE amount of hay and dump it in the ocean and then...a whole new problem.

  • How do we ge a hold of these guys?!?!? This is terrible - no names/contact info - I have people trying to contact them and can't find them!!

  • @marygrieder contact AP, ask about the contractor hay guy from the story that ran May 11

  • Because it is such a simple yet effective idea no one will bother to try it.

  • OILHAYdotcom

  • We could jump over the oil spill in the General Lee and have Cooter rig it so the hay is released at just the right time.

    Yee Haw!!!

  • Visit OilHay com for detailed information on the type of equipment and processes used to applicate hay and straw to large areas of land and water. E-mail at OILHAYat Livecom for hay and straw purchases and application.

  • Just as long as its free of fertilizer though... Nitrogen in the fertilizer has already caused some areas of the ocean with scant amounts or even no oxygen. This mean organic hay would be needed which is not in huge abundance. ...and that's when bad news becomes worse. There is no organic hay to be had. Supply cannot meet today's demand. Its simply tapped out.

  • great idea guys...I can see your sincere intentions. Good job!

  • not a bad idea don't wait for permission just go do it

  • If this was produced on the 10th why are we not doing this right now? Not only does the hay sop up the oil but once it is harvested by the seaweed harvesters the oil can be extracted and used. These guys are brilliant and a gift from God.

  • Great idea.I sure hope the government doesn't steal your idea without you getting the credit !

  • You edited this there is something not right about this video. Play it back and watch the quick flash of white showing fade in fade out.

  • interesting idea, but is there enough surplus hay available to clean up the amount of oil in the gulf? Keep in mind that the livestock and cereal grain industries have their own requirements for hay, and that after it's used for oil cleanup, it can't be used for its originally intended purposes.

    Otherwise, it's worth a try

  • One is left to wonder how oil spills were handled before people.

    .

Oil is a naturally occurring substance, released by ground faults, earthquakes, whatever.

  • @CurtHowland Don't forget Hillbillies shootin' at some food

  • @CrankyxPants Thank you. That was wonderful.

  • @ladybu22 "ts better to clean the earth up with organic things"

    .

Let's start out with natural, organic CO2.

    .

Oh, wait, brain-dead fools think CO2 is some kind of poison. Must coddle the brain-dead fools, because they vote and make campaign contributions.

  • Instead of using valuable hay, we could simply shred US Dollars and dump them on the spill.

  • Awesome. But way to simple, cost-effective and sensible for the government to allow.

  • Great idea! too bad it will take the government a few months or years to approve of it, then they will figure out a way to tax and regulate the use of it, then you will have to get a licence to use it, and finally by that time all the fish will be dead.

  • good thinking i dare you to drink the water

if its good for you its good for the fish , Shouldn't DRINK IT DRINK IT DRINK IT !!!

  • i can see it now..."Hay plan causes mass wildlife deaths and damage to infastructure." the govt. will manage fuck it up somehow.

  • actually there is quite a bit of intelligent people in the southeast.

  • I wish i saw this video before I trimmed off all my pubic hair and sent it to the authorities for this great collective enterprise of saving the civilization from the threat of floating fat on the sea. With Barrack Obama's anger and my pubic hair in hand, we can save the world! My pussy looks like Death Valley now :(

  • Wow.......

  • Of course they won't do this. It makes sense, after all. Can't have that.

  • A perfect example of how an entrepreneur with $100 can do more for society than the government with $100 million dollars and thousands of employees at their disposal. Yay.

  • @SuperJoeAnonymous

It's an idiotic idea. Enough hay to soak up the spill would weigh 64,000 tons based on conservative estimates of the spill size. This fix that they show off in their kitchen simply doesn't scale. And do you know what happens to hay that you pile into the ocean? It sinks. rather quickly. The unfortunate truth is that the only solution to this spill is to live with it and take steps to prevent future accidents.

  • @CrankyxPants And your an idiot salt water creates more boyuncy than fresh water, so what bright ideas have you come up with? I get so tired of reading ingnorant reply's from people like you that set on the side lines and shoot others down for trying. You sound like a Fed to me, we all know they don't want this spill cleaned up right away, its another one of your president's plan to ruin the world for his satanic religion. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

  • @SuperJoeAnonymous Yeah, let's just cover the entire surface area of the oil in hay.

Then all we need to do is figure out how the fuck to clean up metric fucktonnes of oil soaked hay as it washes up along the coastlines FANTASTIC!

  • Cleaning it up is not the Problem right now its Sealing the leak.

if your water pipe broke Would you start mopping the floor before or after stopping the leak.

  • @dark2200, use your brain. think before yapping.

  • @dark2200 You start mopping as soon as you can to prevent further damage

  • @dark2200 "Cleaning it up is not the Problem right now its Sealing the leak."

    .

Sealing the leak is only one problem, not the only problem.

    .

BP is one team working on the problems, not the only team.

    .

So while BP does what they can do, others do what they can do.

    .

If only government would get out of the way and let them do it.

  • @CurtHowland Well If I was Obama I would Bring in the Navy and toss tons of tons of rock on the leak sealing it for good.

  • @dark2200 Bring in the Navy?

    .

Interesting. I wonder why that hasn't been done already? This leak is certainly being touted as a "national emergency", why aren't the resources of the military being made of use?

  • woow good job guys!!!!!

  • Well guys I live in Florida and I want to know why someone isn't talking to you guys!! I put you on my Facebook page!

  • Guess what, the oil is ORGANIC, the dispersants are ORGANIC. Organic is something with carbon, hydrogen, oxygen. There's an entire science called ORGANIC chemistry.

  • Hemp or hey ..just get er done! where the hell is the big media on this? off picking there seats some where?

  • Comment removed

  • Heck with rednecks, it is us hippies who have the best crop . Hemp for clean up & end our dependence on BP & Exxon. The Seed is used for oil & bio fuels . Plus you can end world hunger too. Does hay do that? See my channel for more information on hemp for fuel. The Navy used to have all the ropes made from it. Just imagine all the ways hemp could be usefull in this oil clean up if only our government would allow us to grow it. 90 days & it could be harvested & used. Can hay do that?

  • @therealjamesbud omg. Trust the insanity of YouTube to bring about a rivalry between Hemp and Hay as multi-use American crops. Gotta love it.

  • u guys are about the 7th ONLY people to submitt to youtube ????? the rest is copied tv talk babble ... there should have been millions of videos weeks ago ??? ive been following this for 3 weeks ... the gulf belongs to me too ... u need to kick those u voted in OUT ... what u gonna do ... blame BP ? ... they are 3rd or 4th in line ... your politicians make the rules so theyre 2nd in line ... YOU voted ... YOU are FIRST ... now what ?? ... this is how to clean up OUR mess but i have no vote

  • America is FUCKED. There's no stoping the hand of The Almighty!!!

He's getting ready to kill rednecks like these! YaY !!!

  • It is their lively hood, you are correct.

  • @silvereagle2061 I mean that they are the most invested in this effort to clean the spill. They are closer to it.

  • @ariannahiggins I think in desperation they are taking matters into their own hands. If the big boys with all their fancy machines can't do the job then innovation is at its best.

  • @silvereagle2061 Innovation always rocks. I am proud of these guys for bringing the spirit of innovation back, in a time of crisis, or any time!

  • REAL SCIENCE

  • That was GREAT! I hope someone listens to them and puts this to good use!

  • This is a great idea!

At the end of the video - The Gentleman said "with a quarter of a pound of dry hay". That's not too much. Farmers in Florida, South Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi have already harvested at least one cutting of hay. So there should be enough good quality hay around.

Transportation is the problem... I'd want to make sure this hay doesn't use up the available oxygen in the ocean water(like it does in freshwater ponds).

    Thanks!

  • fucking YES

  • interesting

  • well someone should get some money together and try it if they really think it will work. I don't know if I would have shown up to a press conference with my idea to save the oceans dressed in overalls and looking like uncle jesse but .. what the hay. if it works, they should try and get out there as soon as possible. the question is if there is enough hay. I think the reason that it works is because there is so much surface area on the hay

  • Finally AP got this out!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this AP! A barge, bales, and a shredder. What's the worst that could happen if it didn't work? It sure beats hiding the oil in the seawater by emulsifying it.

  • amazing!

  • Leave it to the rednecks to save our waters and fish

  • @silvereagle2061 It may be all our food, but it's their living as well isn't it?

  • @silvereagle2061 yep, that makes me felt sooo much better

  • @silvereagle2061 thats just because these "good ol boys" spend more time in nature, existing with it, than anyone else with the EPA... just my opinion...

  • @silvereagle2061

    What's that supposed to mean?

  • @silvereagle2061 Makes sense, because rednecks, unlike pompous city dwellers, know more about the earth, crops, and soil.

  • Its about time AP gave this some air time!! Thanx =)

  • very interesting.........

  • but theres one problem. Whose gonna clean up the hay and do we have that much hay to dispose of?

  • @NERD585 lol, I just took a trip through the midwest last week, and I've never seen so much of it in my life (in NYC) lol...it's just dried grass right? No one needs it

  • @NERD585 BP is spraying chemical oil disspersants on our ocean right now, I say Anything organic like this is A GREAT IDEA =) If you watch their original video they explain a bit about the clean up.

  • @StarrJaded yea anything organic is def. a good idea.

    KEEP IT GREEN

  • Anything is worth a try and this definitely has merit. But no one will listen to simple wisdom,it will work for the surface oil.

  • omg

  • i can appreciate their experiment and attempts to help with the spill (maybe make some profit while they are at it) but it looks like a lot of the "oil" stuck to the sides of the metal pan, while the water still looked very dirty

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst The water looks pretty clean actually, it appears to have been soaked up pretty well. The sides of the bowl don't matter because there are no bowls in the ocean or rivers. If they used the hay with a net or mesh-type of material beneath, no oil-soaked hay could leak into the water or wash up on shore...it would just soak on the top of the water and be carted away leaving the area clear I suppose?

  • @ariannahiggins good point regarding the sides of the bowl, but where i come from that water is dirty, but if the "hay" cleanup can be done efficiently than it should be used on a small portion of the oil slick and left there for several hours or longer to make sure it's worth the effort. It's still incredible and intolerable that the oil industry has such horrible and failed backup plans for safety measures.

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst Yes I guess investing time and energy into developing a Plan B isn't cost effective...
