RPG Rant: Square 1st Premier, the NGP and some surprise announcements

Good news on Tales of Graces F. I can't really say much on Final Fantasy as I haven't really kept up with the series since FFX-2... I mean, I have quite a few of the games released since then, they just don't interest me much. Btw, it's reassuring to know that you can take the time to give your own honest opinion and not just follow the crowd. Can you read/write/speak Japanese RPGswagman? It doesn't matter either way since you support devs and publishers regardless, but I'm just curious.

@Vysethedetermined2 Yeah my last FF I loved was FFX but I did enjoy the DS remake of IV very very much.

Thank you I can only be honest and nothing more , I've always hated following a crowd and I'm glad that someone can appreciate an honest opinion.

I sadly cannot read Japanese , I know a lil when speaking the language. I'm currently studying in my free time using books and My Japanese Coach on my DS! lol

Very interested in XIII-2 since I was one of the few people that loved XIII. I am very interested to see the storyline continue on since there were a lot of questions left open.

I hope they will refrain form the mistakes made in X-2 and give both newcomers and XIII-veterans a good storyline, character roster and gameplay system.

NGP looks pretty nice but way too expensive it will probably be.

@Aerodynamisch Yeah I like the story ... I'm just concerned with what Square will do with the gameplay. If they make gil more accessible that could be just the tiny saving grace the game needs.

I too hope they do not draw inspiration from FFX-2 .... that would be catastrophic.

i agree about ff13 and older rpg gamers, i didnt HATE ff13(story/battle i liked) but compared to all the older games IMO it pales in TERMS OF ENJOYMENT for me. Give me phantasy star 2,4 shining force or ff1-4 nothing bad to say about them...again my opinion

I dont really see a simularity with ff4&13 either, its easy to compare tiny aspects of video games =) but the difference's out wiegh the simularities IMO

@benzo8686 Yeah absolutely FF13 was definitely made for a new generation. But I hope they make FFXIII 2 more enjoyable for new and old gamers alike. But yes give me Shining Force or Phantasy Star any day as well (well except Phantasy Star 3 .....).

Very true I will agree there is similar aspects in FFIV and FFXIII but that doesn't make the entire experience. Quite true.

hopefully square makes a come back with the new games expected... tales of grace looks good as well... i am not going to bother with a NGP but instead buy a 3DS ... why i dont really know lol... great video my friend

@goffmen No one knows at this stage till both handhelds bring in the big guns. However the 3DS is quick to the draw with releasing Ocarina of Time 3D. I will gladly fork over my money for a 3DS just for that.

I hope square makes a come back too. They are releasing all their awesome PSP games within the next 3 months ... so I hope they do well.

Kingdom Hearts 3d is supposed to be almost like a remake of 1... With some bonus content from what I have heard... Not really a fan of the series myself but just saying. They are releasing Uncharted for NGP Which is a ps3. Or so I hear. I need to get the FFIV collection psp thing. Can't wait for you RPG dissection part 2. Anyways just wanted to add that After talking to you and Muragaru at his stream last night I went out and preordered Ys 1 and 2 chronicles. Looking forward to it as well.

@FailedElectrician That was my initial thought too but I think it's more of an re imagining. Uncharted looks great on the NGP. I would buy it if I had an NGP I wouldn't buy an NGP for it. I'll wait until a high end RPG is released or another Metal Gear.

I still can't believe they are releasing FFIV collection in Apirl .... SE doing something right.

Thats cool that you preordered Ys Chronicles I hope it doesn't disappoint. ^^ It truly is a great game.

i do agree about the NGP and 3DS, hope i can play any region. i will buy one of the system if it has

@JimmyBackbeat You're speaking of Shenmue of course. In your opinion its boring. To me its one of my favorite games of all time. If you don't like it thats fine :) but there's millions of fans including myself want a sequel for a very long time.

@RPGswagman both games focus heavy on lack of customisation and fast-pased action-based combat... neither games give you much option in terms of characters, abilities etc. in fact FF4 gives you even less options that FF13 in the way of customisation. I tend to not like this feature but it allows for the games to have very well-scripted and very tense boss-fights

@velocityeleven Customisation helps make your characters more stronger and able to deal with the game's encounters. It's the boss's battle design that makes it tense or not.

@RPGswagman well a high level of customisation in a game doesnt make "your characters stronger" in a direct sense. It determines where the strategy lies... FF4 and FF13 have minimal customisation which means your strategy is condensed into a short space of time.
