The Dr. Who examined him had to examine him atleast 1 to2 days later where the methadone had worn down. I'm sorry to hear about your son but that Dr gave you false info, and those are the type of people who give methadone treatment a bad name.
I took 100ml the first time I ever took Methadone(purchased from a dealer), never ever had a drop before that in my life, and I got a some kidney pains and felt like I was floating a bit, but I never died, I guess I was very lucky. At the time I didn't know it could be so deadly to take that much, I was never told this. Education about this drug is a must!.
Im an oxycontin/opiate addict, and when I would abuse 120mg of oxy in a day intravenusly, it proved to hard to kick. I started methadoone treatment and my initial dose was 35mg of liquid methadone. All I know is that I would puke numerous times for about a week untill my tolerance built up. I can also say 6 years later and Im taking 160mg of liquid methadone daily. No side affects anymore at 160mg so education on dosage and tolerance is key. My prayers are with you. USE CAUTION WITH METHADONE!!!

Idk methadone gets a bad name cause of this shit. In my opinion it's the cure all drug take ur dose and ur good for a day or two cause it's stored in ur liver so when u dose again u have a surplus from the day or two b4 that still. My legs and bones hurt so much, and I had no strength, waves of fear crashing over me.. nausea, .vile stinking sweat...then , took some more, two hours later, felt right as rain. methadone withdrawal seems to go on for weeks. methadone has helped a lot of people who are using heroin or pain meds to get clean. and some chronic pain. i used it one time for a week to get through oxycontin detox and weaned off of it by a doctors control. it really took a lot of the sickness away. and it didnt seem to give ya that high like a lot of opiates do. but ive also heard of people having a allergic reaction to it like penicillan so i would be in a doctors care for the first dose administerd. godbless.

Ive takin 10mg of methadone with NO opiate tolerance whatsoever and I didnt even get a buzz. Now Im on 80mg of methadone a day through a clinic but basically what im saying is I really dont think 10mg of methadone could make a person overdose (even with no tolerance at all)

It's possible that he had an allerigic reaction, the amount is so low, I started out with 40mg, then they raised me to as high as a 100mg, meth will not get you high, maybe in the beginning if you never used any opiates at all.

if he wasn't feeling good it is very very possible he took a couple good sized doses of NyQuil or some other medication with DXM in it b4 he was given the Methadone pill. If he was not tolerant to opiates at all it is very possible the mixture of this caused him to drift 2 sleep and depressed his breathing 2 much. keep in mind every1 has a different reaction 2 medication and 4 those saying that it is impossible 4 some1 2 die from only 10-15mg is silly. @mikeandcooper i was detoxed from a huge amount of oxycontin under ketamine infusion for 2 weeks, then placed on 30mg of methadone tablets PD + 15mg of diazapam PD by my neurologist- this was all for extreme spinal nerve damage and scoliosis- and since coming off the oxys and going onto to the said regime (2 years ago) i've re-entered the workforce (drug and alcohol councilor) re-established many social contacts, lost 20kg and have a good family life it just shows we r all different. peace

I'm prescribed to take 150mgs a day, but here in Croatia we have a'take home'system, so I get a methadone supply for four days. That's 600mgs all together. Being an addict like I am, I usually take no less than 400mgs on the first day, and get stoned as f***, but then I don't need anything the second day, and the third and fourth day I only need 50mgs,'cause my body is full from the first huge dosage. @lickdacat2 the media is full of lies you are right, however i am a chronic pain patient like you on both methadone and oxycodone. methadone is not a "fairly weak drug" when taking orally the only stronger painkillers are Opana (oxymorphone) and dilaudid (hydromorphone) and methadone is only slighty weaker when took orally. 10- 15 milligrams is not alot to you or me maybe and it doesent happend often inless mixed with other drugs but it can kill at that dosein opiod niave patients

I'd say it's even more dangerous than oxy (not to mention at least 2x stronger per milligram). Plus it takes a while for it to peak so idiots keep taking more thinking they're like percs or vikes. When I was railing 80 mg Oxycontins every day 45 mgs of methadone made me puke (but everyone is different to certain degrees).

@maybizzy I know is that Oxycodone will take care of my pain when the Methadone seems to do very little. My doctor has talked about switching my Methadone to MS Contin as the Methadone seems to do very little at 80mg/day. I get 150mg oxycodone/day also and after three years the oxycodone still works but I need a larger dose. I met a woman at my pharmacy who gets 300mg Oxycodone/day and her body weight was only 2/3 of mine. Methadone has never controlled my pain even trying a higher dosage.
@lickdacat2 It is unlikely that 15tmgs could kill someone on a first time dose, but if you listen to the parents comments in the video they say their son couldnt sleep because he was congested and couldnt breathe properly, in a case like this I believe 15mgs could kill someone. Ive been on methadone for pain management for 15 years on and off along with dipipanone, oxycontin and palfium on and off.

The people that OD are not people like us, I can snort 5 grams of Heroine and go to work with absolutely no problem. We build up a resistance and our body becomes more and more tolerant. Go to rehab for a month and take 150mg of oxycodone and 80mg of methadone, you'll probably go in to a coma, it's not people like us that OD, it's the week end users or the relapser.
@lickdacat2 There have been cases where people can overdose on methadone. If their body doesn't digest it right it could kill them. I have a family member that was going to the methadone clinic daily for his treatment and it ended up killing him on a very low dose. We thought that he may of had other drugs or alcohol in his system and he didn't it was just methadone. We wanted to know for some closure what the truth was on the case

@gmccall22 40 mg. scored tablets were distributed by Eli Lilly at least 30 years ago. Yes, there are 20 mg. tablets too. Neither 20 or 40 mg. diskettes (or "bisquits" if you will). It think that another company puts them out today, probably Mallinkrodt. 40 mg. tablets were meant for methadone clinics, not to the general public. 5 and 10 mg. doses are prescribed for severe pain for opiate naive people. People have died drinking Methadose for kicks calling it "Cherry Juice".

@martznitrox Oxycontin would be very similar to your experience with MS Contin as it contains oxycodone rather than morphine. Methadone has a more delayed onset and a longer lasting intoxication than oxy or morph.

wow, ive had to take methadone a few times, stopped cause i have bad reactions to it ( faster heart rate, loss of appetite, stomach pain, numbness in my hands and arms). it seriously is the only drug that takes my pain away though.

That's a crock of shit. 10 or 15 mg wouldn't kill a cocked spaniel. He had to be giving a 40mg wafer. Its virtually impossible to die from that small of a dose. The Dr. Who examined him had to examine him atleast 1 to2 days later where the methadone had worn down. I'm sorry to hear about your son but that Dr gave you false info, and those are the type of people who give methadone treatment a bad name.

I took 100ml the first time I ever took Methadone(purchased from a dealer), never ever had a drop before that in my life, and I got a some kidney pains and felt like I was floating a bit, but I never died, I guess I was very lucky. At the time I didn't know it could be so deadly to take that much, I was never told this. Education about this drug is a must!.

Im an oxycontin/opiate addict, and when I would abuse 120mg of oxy in a day intravenusly, it proved to hard to kick. I started methadoone treatment and my initial dose was 35mg of liquid methadone. All I know is that I would puke numerous times for about a week untill my tolerance built up. I can also say 6 years later and Im taking 160mg of liquid methadone daily. No side affects anymore at 160mg so education on dosage and tolerance is key. My prayers are with you. USE CAUTION WITH METHADONE!!!

methadone has helped a lot of people who are using heroin or pain meds to get clean. and some chronic pain. i used it one time for a week to get through oxycontin detox and weaned off of it by a doctors control. it really took a lot of the sickness away. and it didnt seem to give ya that high like a lot of opiates do. but ive also heard of people having a allergic reaction to it like penicillan so i would be in a doctors care for the first dose administerd. godbless.

It's possible that he had an allerigic reaction, the amount is so low, I started out with 40mg, then they raised me to as high as a 100mg, meth will not get you high, maybe in the beginning if you never used any opiates at all.
I used to forge my scrips, thousands I kid you not, always the plain oxycodone no tylenol in the pill, reason is my liver would have gone very fast, I was taking 5mg 40 at a pop. than I went the 30mg 20 pills 600mg sometimes 900mg kid you not.

if he wasn't feeling good it is very very possible he took a couple good sized doses of NyQuil or some other medication with DXM in it b4 he was given the Methadone pill. If he was not tolerant to opiates at all it is very possible the mixture of this caused him to drift 2 sleep and depressed his breathing 2 much. keep in mind every1 has a different reaction 2 medication and 4 those saying that it is impossible 4 some1 2 die from only 10-15mg is silly. Hmmm! Wait until you lose a loved one from this drug. I just lost my 28 year old son from methodone,no other drugs in his system! He went to a clinic and died 2 weeks later! He went to this clinic a fews years ago and moved back home...it did help him the first time around and believe me he knew about different drugs..most addicts do! @mikeandcooper i was detoxed from a huge amount of oxycontin under ketamine infusion for 2 weeks, then placed on 30mg of methadone tablets PD + 15mg of diazapam PD by my neurologist- this was all for extreme spinal nerve damage and scoliosis- and since coming off the oxys and going onto to the said regime (2 years ago) i've re-entered the workforce (drug and alcohol councilor) re-established many social contacts, lost 20kg and have a good family life it just shows we r all different. peace

I'm prescribed to take 150mgs a day, but here in Croatia we have a'take home'system, so I get a methadone supply for four days. That's 600mgs all together. Being an addict like I am, I usually take no less than 400mgs on the first day, and get stoned as f***, but then I don't need anything the second day, and the third and fourth day I only need 50mgs,'cause my body is full from the first huge dosage. I also take benzos. I'm 35,completely healthy,excellent teeth,bloodworks,liver,etc

Bullshit. I do 150mg oxycodone and 80mg methadone each day for chronic pain. Nobody could tell I take anything, totally alert and normal.
There is no way 10-15mg of methadone could kill anybody unless they had some other drug or medical condition that killed them. Methadone is a fairly weak drug, it would take high doses to kill somebody.
Our media is full of propaganda and lies, especially when it comes to what is happening in our corrupt government. Don't believe anything the media says.

@lickdacat2 the media is full of lies you are right, however i am a chronic pain patient like you on both methadone and oxycodone. methadone is not a "fairly weak drug" when taking orally the only stronger painkillers are Opana (oxymorphone) and dilaudid (hydromorphone) and methadone is only slighty weaker when took orally. 10- 15 milligrams is not alot to you or me maybe and it doesent happend often inless mixed with other drugs but it can kill at that dosein opiod niave patients

@lickdacat2 I would defenatly agree with you,as I was on 20 mills to start then eventually I was on as much as 180mg...it then took me a solid year to wean myself from the methadone because my sister trashed talked about it keepoing "me high",thats all its about...so to deal with immediate stopage of 30 mills of meth,I started talking morphine hydro-condone 18mg,and basically crushing the time release wax balls in my mouth to powder then swallowing..to help curve withdrawls of meth.

you're pretty much on point (media has no medical expertise) except for stating that methadone is a "fairly weak drug." A lot of people underestimate it. I'd say it's even more dangerous than oxy (not to mention at least 2x stronger per milligram). Plus it takes a while for it to peak so idiots keep taking more thinking they're like percs or vikes. When I was railing 80 mg Oxycontins every day 45 mgs of methadone made me puke (but everyone is different to certain degrees).

@maybizzy I know is that Oxycodone will take care of my pain when the Methadone seems to do very little. My doctor has talked about switching my Methadone to MS Contin as the Methadone seems to do very little at 80mg/day. I get 150mg oxycodone/day also and after three years the oxycodone still works but I need a larger dose. I met a woman at my pharmacy who gets 300mg Oxycodone/day and her body weight was only 2/3 of mine. Methadone has never controlled my pain even trying a higher dosage.

@lickdacat2 It is unlikely that 15tmgs could kill someone on a first time dose, but if you listen to the parents comments in the video they say their son couldnt sleep because he was congested and couldnt breathe properly, in a case like this I believe 15mgs could kill someone. Ive been on methadone for pain management for 15 years on and off along with dipipanone, oxycontin and palfium on and off.

@lickdacat2 Nah man, coming from a long time user of opioids and currently a methadone addict(225mg a day), trust me if this kid had never fucked with any opioids at all, had zero tolerance, it is possible that someone could die from 15mg of methadone(but more likely it was a mxiture of drugs), methadone is an extremely strong opioid lol, it holds heroin users for 20 solid hours at a time man..
There are former heroin addicts on less opioid medication than you, and i mean they JUST stopped.

The people that OD are not people like us, I can snort 5 grams of Heroine and go to work with absolutely no problem. We build up a resistance and our body becomes more and more tolerant. Go to rehab for a month and take 150mg of oxycodone and 80mg of methadone, you'll probably go in to a coma, it's not people like us that OD, it's the week end users or the relapser.

@lickdacat2 There have been cases where people can overdose on methadone. If their body doesn't digest it right it could kill them. I have a family member that was going to the methadone clinic daily for his treatment and it ended up killing him on a very low dose. We thought that he may of had other drugs or alcohol in his system and he didn't it was just methadone. We wanted to know for some closure what the truth was on the case

@lickdacat2 i understand your opinion and like myself i have chronic pain and have been on pain meds for years. you cant tell when im on it or not other than i dont complain about the pain when i am. and im more active. i dont understand the methadone treatment with the oxycontin treatment. is this from the same doctor. im not judging it ive just always understood that methadone works best for people who are getting off of pain meds. ive used it in the pass myself. take care and godbless.

Methadone comes in 5 or 10 mg. tablets. For a parent to say 10 or 15mg is understandable, but if "they" are toxicologists, then including 15mg. (surmised) would not = 1 pill. It will either be one and a half 10mg. or three 5mg. pills and not "one pill in his system and that's all". The media is known to distort facts.

@gmccall22 40 mg. scored tablets were distributed by Eli Lilly at least 30 years ago. Yes, there are 20 mg. tablets too. Neither 20 or 40 mg. diskettes (or "bisquits" if you will). It think that another company puts them out today, probably Mallinkrodt. 40 mg. tablets were meant for methadone clinics, not to the general public. 5 and 10 mg. doses are prescribed for severe pain for opiate naive people. People have died drinking Methadose for kicks calling it "Cherry Juice".

@Tipsyquo Hi. on Methadone'm for years(f150mgs a day, but I always misuse it, and sometimes take 300-400 mgs.) Since it's very hard to get any other shit excpt Heroin and Cocaine in Croatia(where I live), I always wonder what's Oxycontine's like, and is it same as Oxycodone. I've only tried MSContin, and I found Methadone much better as in getting high, .....so, please try to explain to me how do Oxys work compared to Met.or Heroin

@martznitrox Oxycontin would be very similar to your experience with MS Contin as it contains oxycodone rather than morphine. Methadone has a more delayed onset and a longer lasting intoxication than oxy or morph.

its nearly impossible to kill yourself with regular access pain pills like tylonal or advil. they have added drugs that at high doses cause you to vomit, so you never digest the lethal dose.
still, its not a good idea to do it since it will make you REALLY sick.

wow, ive had to take methadone a few times, stopped cause i have bad reactions to it ( faster heart rate, loss of appetite, stomach pain, numbness in my hands and arms). it seriously is the only drug that takes my pain away though.

i use it, too, to get off an opioid addiction and it's helping me - the loss of appetite is beneficial to me, personally, and I dont experience any pain as a result of taking it...
maybe methadone in europe is different from methadone in the US - I never hear bad things from european users...

Well, it's different for everyone, you know? I was once cutting this woman's hair at the salon and she told me her sister had died from taking 2 extra strength tylenol with a glass of red wine. (Who know's if that is actually the reason she died,but that's what I was told)I'm not going to go and tell you to take a methadone, because they are HIGHLY addictive,but I would think you'd be just fine. If you are going to take one for the first time, do not mix it with any other drugs or alcohol.

But it sounds like youre on 60mg, as methadose is usually 10mg. You should not worry. If you remain anywhere under 100mg a day, you are a light user with plenty of potentional to lead a drug-free life someday if you have the will. Just watch what you mix it with and make sure your doctor knows how much other meds youre taking such as benzos.
