Hello. Can anyone who has owned or been involved with T-Sports answer me some questions pls? How reliable are they as they are high output for their size? Do the engines/boxes last like the Vtecs do? Are they costly to run as i imagine the service intervals are shorter than average and they use fully synthetic oil? How accessible is the power or is it all at the very top of the rev range? Fuel economy? Interior and bodywork quality? Thanks.
@MrAnthropophagy I own my second t-sport already so I can write a word or two :) Fuel economy, interior build and quality, onboard equipment is all on t-sport for sure, so is the looks in the facelifted model. The reliabality is good, like all toyotas, except for that some engines have issues with intake camshaft wearing out too quickly, common problem with some 2zzge engines. It's best to use only fully synthetic oil like motul 300v and service more often than regular corollas.
@biatchkillar another isseu is power accessibility - past 6krmp it's all devil, but there's perceptible dimp in tourqe between 5k-6k rpm which affects the performance quite badly. The best solution is perforamnce camshafts like pipercams stage 1 or 2. Yes, it;s not cheap, but this makes you sure that no stock type-r can beat you :) also it's good to change stock suspension, because it's rubbish, i personaly use billstein b8+eibach pro kit and stiffer rear stabilizer bar and it handles great
@biatchkillar Cheers for the reply. I've read that fuel economy goes below 20mpg when they're being pushed and i've read in various places, (inc' owners reviews), that 1st, 2nd and 3rd have very little overlap and that 6th is pretty much the same as 5th. Because of that the car doesn't really have long enough legs for motorway use. This also means that the engine revs quite high when cruising on fast roads which becomes tiring. Also that below 6000rpm the engines have zero torque.
@MrAnthropophagy that's the nature of high-revving, small engines - low power in low and mid range which gives you good economy and power high up. Yes it's true, that there's not much torque below 6krpm, but in everyday driving condition you don't really have to go past 4rkpm to overtake 90% cars in traffic. And yes, gearbox is short and not really good for motorway. But there are solutions - you can order longer 6th gear ratio for better milage and lower noise on motorways
@biatchkillar Cheers for your help. Think i'll look at the Civic Type-R though. Don't feel i should be spending extra money on things Toyota should've right in the first place.
I think the t sport looked quicker than the type r! I know the t sport is as quick in a straight line as the type r, but i expected the type r to be quicker in this vid because of the bends! Maybe a poor driver in the type r

@MrAnthropophagy and for weak midrange I use pipercams stage 1 that gives you +35Nm in midrange, definitely the difference can be felt

t-sport was about 3 sec faster on this run, although it was stock and type-r was 230 bhp
