I know that seal! His name is Sammy and he's been hanging around the Fisherman's Wharf for forever. I don't agree with feeding wildlife, but he's hardly wild anymore! He's so used to human contact that he doesn't need to hunt for food and hardly ever leaves the wharf.
Hey that's Sammy the seal! He has been around for a long time - very playful and smart. there was another one there too and he has grown pretty fat over the years.
You shouldn't feed wildlife. It's not good for them long-term. The next person might not be so nice to them, and it gets them used to relying on people for food.
Sammy was actually set free when the Victoria Aquarium closed down several years ago (hence, the fact that he can do tricks). He was originally rescued and is used to humans feeding him... he basically lives at Fisherman's Wharf and is considered a pet of the many people that own houseboats on that dock.
@Sooke4Eva I had one of the best days of my life in this very spot. I walked up to get some salmon scraps for the seal and some Indian candy for us. My little guy was so excited as were from the East coast and don't experience seals much.
hahahahaha too funnny! I named him Oscar......I used to sell salmon off the wharf......there were 2 others seals that would show up once in a while......but Oscar was there all the time......I fed him lotsa fish....
I am going there today !

They aren't pets to toy with.

@Ryan987678 These seals hang out at that dock and know they will be fed. However, they know how to hunt for themselves.
