This guy is Amazing. And gives me a reason to play while standing. My teacher is always like "You got to sit if you need to do a lot of tuning." But this guy does a good enough job. I want to know what kind of drums they are, they sound beautiful.
Especially in a large orchestral setting its not the number of notes. Ive played a lot of stuff. Tchaicovsky has great parts, lawrence of arabia theme is good, howard hansen usually has good parts...Copland has decent. those are some big composers thats why I listed them but most use the timpani in less of a tom-tom sort of way, ya know?
Every time i hear an amazing piece of music or see a video of it and people are like wow amazing timpanist (and boy is he amazing in this video!) or amazing Woodwinds or whatever i just think about the person who actually composed all of this.
i thought timpani was easy, boy am i mistaken. i have to guess that pitch to make. and my timpanis have spikes for easy tuning but they are great interferances.
@jehadc Actually, this is what happened: He put his left mallet into his right hand so that he could put a mute on the 32 inch drum. After he muted the 32 inch drum, he put the mallet back into his left hand and continued playing :-D
it's very rare that a percussionist gets a standing ovation, and my god man this is well deserved

The William Kraft "Timpani Concerto" for master timpanists only.
Randy Max shows you what a master timpanist can do when he has a piece to play as challenging and creative as this one.

That's the only place the white guy gets to play the drums. I thought he did a good job.
