come on people. wow! we have a town center here where one person has hidden about 5 caches. Takes about 10 mins to find them all. If its hidden by someone in the community they can all be very close together and by the same person. Great vids keep it up. I just started doing this a few weeks ago.
@egarz10 Interesting how you would accuse somebody of something based on that. No I did not hide the geocaches though all three were hidden by the same geocacher which is why they posted at the same time in this case.
This guy got to all three finds in less than an hour. He said in the beginning its 645. he went for the second one at 7:01 and found the third before lunch. I'm pretty sure all three of these caches were hidden by him and he knew exactly where he put them himself. Hes a good actor though.
@foxriderst8 FYI - No, it took time to drive from one geocache to the next to find them. In fact the second and third geocaches I spend at least a half hour each looking. I was not the one who hid them nor did I know exactly where they were. These were filmed as I found them. Thanks for watching though.
Wow there must not be much competion for FTF's where you live here in Vancouver Wa. if your not at GZ in at least 20mins. there is no way you'd get the FTF we have one cacher here "Scubasonic" that has over 1,300 FTF's alone, When a new cache publishes we are like firemen rushing to a fire and when you get to GZ most likely there will be at least two other cachers looking already LOL
I have been in to geocaching for a couple months.I'm copperhead58 I got 4 FTFs from nomad721 hides before work.Very cold but got the alert of the hides had to go.I have watched headhardhat videos they rock
I have a question how do you know when a geocache is new and has just been placed and is ready to find ? Have you ever showed up after one of these FTF caches and had to compete with others looking for it?
@mythic89 With geocaching(dot)com you can become a premium member. Then you have the ability to get alerts when new geocaches are published in your area. Yep many times I have met up with other geocachers at a FTF. We always have a good time and usually co-FTF them, meaning we share the FTF. Thanks for writing in.
wtf? why are you showing where the caches are hidden? Doesn't the rule book say you are not supposed to do this? Now no one who ever sees your videos will be challenged to find them. You should remove the cache and film it away from the hiding spot.
@johnmonk66 I show geocaches all the time in my videos and blog. I never tell which ones they are or where they really are. There is no way for anyone to know where these geocaches are without actually going through my finds list and even then they will be hard pressed to figure out which ones are which. The only geocaches that I do not show are 4's and 5's. Unless I get permission by the owner. Thanks for chiming in tho.
So difficulty level 3 is an easy level? Is that why you were able to find them so easy? You'd think you would want to find ones that were harder to find.
@brycerocks100 The geocacher who put these out (I found later) was new to geocaching and really did not set these right for difficulty. The terrain with the one in the briar patch was tho :)
Thanks for documenting this! I'm relatively new to Geocaching (in the last 2 months; I've found 50 caches), and I think this will give me a little inspiration. Thanks for taking us on a fun adventure! (Three of them, actually.)
funny how its the same box each time, EXACT same pattern on the top lid, same little note book (first and last) with the same little not inside... hmmm
@joeybowbowie Yup the hider was the same for each and unfortunately very new to the game. You can tell by the quality of the containers and the way they were hidden. I didn't know it at the time of filming but with anything in geocaching. You just don't know until you find it. Thanks for writing in.
I love early morning (4 am-ish) caches. B/c I can't drive, I'm restricted to biking around the city, and early mornings means no muggles. I usually end up on 8-hour biking trips around the city, though. Is it just me, or does time fly by quicker in the morning?
@FFRyMc Why thank you... You should see me on a good day :)
Had fun with those but in this case the hider was a newbie and they could have been a lot tougher for what they were actually marked. Thanks for watching.
Hi HHH, I'm only 5 days into the obsession but i've got 10 finds under my belt and I'm going after my first FTF tomorrow hopefully around 7:00 AM...before a root canal, so I'm going to have some fun before having some "fun". Your videos have been quite entertaining when I'm not on the trails and I wanted to thank you. Thanks!
Hiya headhardhat, I am in the UK and just got into this hobby/obsession, already found 5 caches with both my partner and my son, I adore seeking out caches and plan on doing many more, thanks for the interesting videos, keep 'em coming.
@kry102001 Welcome to the obsession! Geocaching as a family can really be a lot of fun. Nothing like a little competition to keep things interesting or even better to work as a team on a numbers run.. Everybody has their part to find as many geocaches as possible, lots of fun..
Looks like all three were placed by the same player. Same containers, same log books, similar loot. Those lighter weight tupper ware things always seem to crack, though. Not being critical... at least someone's putting them out there w/loot! Just did a 100 finds in 14 hours day. All camo film/pill bottles or magnetic key boxes! And soggy to boot! I've got 66 out there, more coming, and all worth looking for. Check them out if you're ever in Indiana. Like your vids. -monstercatambush
Nothing critical about it and I couldn't agree with you more. Those containers are the worst and will be holding log books of goo really quick after hidden. Would love to go geocaching in Indiana. I go over to Michigan all the time and would love to go after some of your hides. Could you send me your top 10 favorites and maybe this year I can check them out. Thanks, -HHH
Here's my top ten from here... Let's see if this transfers... GC1FC0T The Frog Princes Treasure GC1N8X9 The Handy Man GC1NRAW The Frog Princes Pony Pasture GC1CGYY Oh Danny Boy GC1D27K Amazing Grace GC1CNQ8 As Time Goes By GC19Z42 The House Where Nobody Lives GC1JG29 Three Steps to Home GC1DC34 If I Only Had a Brain GC1J7PT Sacred Circle GC1KA7W When Beavers Attack Those are all good ones. Good Luck. I really like you videos. Death to crappy caches! -Monstercatambush
I have ZERO FTF's. I've only been caching a few months, and have just one attempt at being a FTF. I was out there well after midnight searching with a flashlight. After almost 2 hours of searching for this MICRO, I called off the search and logged a DNF
Since I wrote this yesterday, my status has changed. I finally found my first FTF at 9:20 pm. In a Cemetery... Armed with a flashlight... In -3 degree temperatures..
I wasnt very comfortable with the being in the cemetery alone at night thing. But the CO had "24/7" as an attribute, and there were no posted signs in front of the cemetery.
I am curious about what some of the more interesting things and places in Canada that you like so well. Please send me an email how geocaching in Canada is different than other parts of the world. That would be great. -HHH
i was going to try this, but, im not sure its very safe giving where you are finding things. someone could be hiding and waiting to hurt people. i guess it would be ok for a man to do though. have fun! :)
Hey SimplyLucid, If you are uncomfortable geocaching alone I highly recommend going out with a friend or two. I have never heard of someone ambushing a geocacher as they went for a cache. The reason is sometimes it takes weeks or more between a find. It would not be worth it for somebody to wait as each geocacher comes by...
THANKS for all the vids on geocaching headhardhat! They have been very helpful. just started caching last week and am absolutely addicted. This is such a wholesome rewarding sport. And the kids love it to. I highly recommend Geocaching to anyone that likes to get outside and and have fun. great for the outdoor enthusiast. Thanks again headhardhat the vids have been an amazing help! GOOD CACHING TO ALL!
Wow. I just learned about Geocaching from searching google. Then I found your awesome video!!! I am going to get into this bigtime. Any suggestions for a first timer? I have a GPS. Where do I get the coordinates for my area? Thanks for the great video!
Bananapoo and I (ItsLoveInStereo) get our FTF's in the middle of the night in San Antonio, yeah, that's right. When one pops up at 10pm or 3am, we are there, its sooo addicting! We had 15 FTF's on The Food's OFS Series near Pearsall, TX.
Yep and an inexperienced one to boot. The difficulties were way off except for the one and that was just the terrain that was bad. The finds themselves were not all that tough at all. -HHH
Neat video! I had my first FTF a while back, and it was a total rush! Probably like most areas, you have to get up (or get off work) real early in the morning to beat the FTF hounds to the finds..
I am quite dismayed at the gladware, I hope the hider has "graduated" to sturdier containers!
Yeah I was rather disturbed by it too. In fact it was some of the very first hides they did and so the ratings were way off as well. Had fun finding them but they were a lot easier then they stated and they are not going to last very long. Thanks for writing in... -HHH
Gotta love the Cache-O-Max events hey Zoodamar. I had 9 FTF's that day without breaking a sweat.... Can't wait for the second one. HeadHardHat.... I love your videos... Thanks for posting
Wow 9 FTFs is amazing. I was in Michigan a few months back and talked with a geocacher that is a FTF maniac. He has something in the neighborhood of 5000 FTFs. I guess he travels a lot and picks them up where ever he goes... How cool would that be?
Why thank you. We do love making them and having the ability to get feedback from people all around the world is just way too cool. To answer you question, I use several. My work horse is the Garmin 60CSx and my main backup is my Blackberry with Geocache Navigator. I also have an Delorme PN-40 that I trade off with as well. Thanks for asking... -HHH
LOL I'll take all the rooting I can get. Yeah it is very obsessive and a lot of fun. Hope you get into it as well. If you have any questions please let me know.
This was a great video... I can really see why this sport is such an obsession. Even though the description was a spoiler, I found myself rooting you on.
Thanks Library Guy. Always glad to hear how GeoSnippits help people enjoy geocaching better... Welcome to the obsession and if you have any suggestions or things you need to know. Please let me know. -HHH
HHH, just to give you an impression, check out these caches, especially the galleries. we are enjoying some more challenging tasks here and love lost places.
LOL, thank you about GeoSnippits I am truly very happy you like them. Yes a micro in the woods is almost a crime here too but we do like our challenges. It is interesting how Germany tends to have mor multi/puzzles in a wooded area. In my neck of the woods in North Carolina people tend to shy away from those. In fact what I was wondering was what is popular in the different parts of the world and what people like or dislike. You got me thinking and that is always dangerous. Thanks for the idea!
PS would love doing a vid in Germany. In fact I am going to be asking people all over the planet to send me their vids that I can add to GeoSnippits episodes!
thanks for posting vids on geocaching. I came across one of your vids by accident, I had never even heard the term geocache before. I just got my GPS this past Christmas from my wife. We've been having a blast geocaching! We only have 11 finds so far, but having fun. Thanks for introducing us to geocaching, look forward to more vids!
Welcome to the obsession! It really is a really great hobby to get into and you will find the geocaching community as a whole as very friendly. I just attended an event and met up with about 50 fellow cachers. Had a great time, you should look up any upcoming events near you. Highly recommended. - HHH
Great vids HHH. I can't believe that 3rd FTF was so exposed. I havn't been so lucky to find a shiny blue container visible from such a distance! Combining it with the poor coords might be worth a comment to the owner to sharpen things up and also reduce the risk of muggling. (Spray paint could be the go) cheers, Rogpol (50 finds and building as at Feb 28 09)
Turns out the hider was brand new to geocaching so the more common sense techniques to us he has not yet aquired. I did give some suggestions for hides and I am making a series of videos showing how to do just that. Thanks for the great comments.
Well welcome emorocker.. Glad you and your grandfather have fun with this outdoor crazyness. If you ever see me out on the trails or at an event. Please be sure to say hi. I would love to meet you. -HHH
I just started and I am going on my first hunt tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Wow 9 FTFs is amazing. I was in Michigan a few months back and talked with a geocacher that is a FTF maniac. He has something in the neighborhood of 5000 FTFs. I guess he travels a lot and picks them up where ever he goes... How cool would that be?

Wow 8 is amazing.. My record so far is 5 and I had to really scramble to do that but 8. That would be so much fun to try.. Congrats.

-HHH

I agree that FTF's are tons of fun. My record is 8 in one day, too bad I didn't get those on video!

Sokratekk, loved you video from Germany. It is now on our GREAT WALL of FAME off of our GeoSnippits web site. We are featuring it. Please send more.

your vids are very entertaining and the explainations are superb.
you seem to have a lot of traditional caches in the woods - i´m a little suprised about that.
We here in Germany prefer Multi- or Mysteriecaches if there is enough space to hide bigger boxes.
A micro cache in the forest would be a ´crime´here...
If you are interested in making a cacher-vacation here in Germany, NRW, and make a vid about it, just let me know;-)!
