i read that he injured his knee on a failed 3axel landing, so on the 1st one i thot it looked okay...then i saw the 2nd one. OOH BOY that ones gotta hurt!
I feel bad for this guy..He is definetely different in many way ..but what I can't stand is how mean people are to this guy. I felt my heart drop when he fell
I'm thrilled to death Johnny represents our country! Johnny IS America....bold, brash, original, uninhibited....upfront and honest......maybe a little to self-absorbed, but that is a problem a great many Americans have these days.....I say YOU GO GYRL!!!! best wishes
Naw....he just got up and went on to next year, and worldwide fame......and fortune.....these things have a way of making connections with your fans and admirers............you can always re-invent yourself......best wishes
@thealphebeters Not exactly. A serious INJURY, (causing other injuries) full recovery took years & cuel critics said his career was "OVER/DONE." How any adult critic could "speak" this way to a CHILD of 19 is beyond me. But, YES, JOHNNY WEIR'S THE GREATEST and he came back to show them who's who!!!
This entire competition was a disaster. I remember watching it live and watching everyone just crumble. Matt Savoie ended up having a boot issue and then Michael Weiss almost took out a flower girl. When was the last time you saw a live figure skating competition run over time?
As for Weir, he's come a long way, but before he won the Nationals in 2004, you could always count on him to crash and burn. I think it took this event to finally get him on his A game.
Thats ridiculous that he was allowed to do that. My coach would have killed me if I ever pulled that in a competition. You are trained to get up and keep going even if something like that happens where you end up catching the boards with your skate. He may have been dealing with inuries during that year but if you're going for it anyways tough it out and dont let a fluke like that mess you up. Besides hes was an international skater at that point and should have been setting a good example
Much like Blumberg/Seibet 1981...it happens some time. Johnny is strong willed.....but 'his' will...he is not someone who would do what others thought he should do, just for that reason...I never heard just what was going on....i bet the injuries caused him concern, and that started some mind games......From the very beginning, he just doesn't seem to want to be there......maybe we will learn in time.....only Johnny can tell us....has he done an autobiography yet??? ...thanks for commenting, BW
I love how he tries again, I don't agree with your description, you don't know what it's like for him, and no before you comment, I'm not some teeny who is all in love with him, I admire what he does, he is a beautiful skater, and everyone has the right to a bad day, so many skaters have fallen, he knew when to bow out..I give him credit for attempting again after his first fall, I'd love to see you get on the ice and try this yourself.. so don't assume, because you know that what makes you..
oh...you seem to misunderstand. I am a great admirer of Johnny's skating. As I recall, he was dealing with injuries in this particular competitive season. Perhaps he felt he could not give a worthwhile performance......like I said (No plastic mugs, only crystal glassware for JW) ....Only Johnny could tell us about the back room intrigue, getting him on the ice here. He seems leary from the get go!!! Things happen, we go on, as did Johnny (to a great future) best wishes
the first injury was fake, and the second one he dislocated his kneecap.

I like the way he bows to the audience at the end. He could have just skated off the ice but he knew that everyone was supporting him.
