  • 3 minutes of introduction, i don´t like.

  • I've just started to teach myself guitar by following videos such as yours, great inspiration and i really enjoyed watching this, so would like to say thanks and i'm gonna keep practicing.....

    Regards

    John

  • I saw your awesome rendition of a Dead song some time ago (Unbroken Chain?), and for some dumbass reason forgot to subscribe.....just stumbled back upon you and this incredible cover and am smacking myself for not diving into all of your other covers sooner. I'm yet again quite duly impressed.

  • wow, seriously awesome arrangement!! i dig it, nice playing.

  • the other thing more impressive than this song is the dude on the left's nutsack

  • @Taxi502 LMAO! Would you like me to repost without any pants? You'd forget there's even a song playing!!!!

    Hilarious!!!!

  • @sneakypower haha, in seriousness, this cover is fucking bad ass. i am always checking out beatles covers on here and yours is my favorite. my girl always drags me to phish shows. they are decent i guess. so in return im always showing her cool beatles stuff. so im showing her this song and she sees 'if i could' in the margin on the right. needless to say she was an instant fan of yous two

  • very much liked, even in pieces as variegated as Cumberland Blues. You guys are at your best when you allow your own voices(on the guitar, at least) to shine through, and I look forward to hearing more.

Yours in all Irony, David Harrison

  • Hey guys. I have been listening to your body of work for a little while now and I must say it is a pleasure. My major qualm with the beatles have been the lack of exposition or development of their startlingly beautiful themes. Norwegian Wood is a perfect example: a beautiful and ringing theme run through a couple of choruses in a three-minute song! You guys have provided the much-needed technical exposition and have kept true to the spirit of the music, despite the Indian insinuations, which I

  • happy 70th BDay John, Fly Free. Thank you.

  • Listening your version wasn't a waste of time. Thank you very much for this wonderful experience.

  • no one wants to listen to a 3 minute intro! the song is good when simple

  • @RcEdits I mean no disrespect, but our video has 20,000+ views and an average of 5* rating....Perhaps it's just YOU who doesn't want to hear a 3 minute intro. Have a nice day.

    David

  • @sneakypower Dude this is a really good version, are you guys just jamming out or did you like work some of it out. cuz it sounds really good and i love listening to the intro!

  • @sneakypower Dude this is a really good version, are you guys just jamming out or did you like work some of it out. cuz it sounds really good and i love listening to the intro! The original song is too short yours keeps me entertained for almost 9 mins!

  • @stevelabelle You're very kind. The Indian-style jam evolved out of a few run throughs...We loosely worked out how we wanted to lead into the song, but nothing too formal--just jamming.

  • @RcEdits um...i do

  • @RcEdits awe man, u serious? the intro is awesome

  • the album cover was a a fail

  • AWESOME

  • You guys are the best! Any advice on singing? I'm a lead guitar player, though lately I've been writing a lot of folk singer songwriter stuff... I notice you guys aren't voice majors, but both have extremely charming voices and sing with soul (ex. garcia, dylan, lennon) and I was curious if you had any tips?

Once again, your covers are brilliant!!! I love them all... I'm still waiting for an It's Ice ;-)

  • @rrescozoo5

HEY THERE!! I had to laugh at your kind request for singing tips!! It truly made my day... I think the best tip I can provide is don't sing like me!! I will let Dave speak for himself, but I do try to feel the lyrics to the music. I sure as hell can't do it any other way. Thanks so much for your kind words of support!!

Stay tuned, Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • Yeahh,, dig the D-35. My favourite Martin!!

  • Awesome arrangement and excellently played!

  • Great job guys.

  • nice harmonic minor scale!

  • This...is...amazing...I want to hear more of these guys!

  • You blew me away. I am amazed and astounded at your arrangement. Incredible performance!

  • I bookmarked your website fuckin well done . you also pick all of my favorite songs to cover

  • you guys are totally in synch... being a guitar player myself I know it's an art form

  • You guys never seem to disappoint. Incredible arrangement of a great song. Are one of your guitars tuned differently?Parts of your version sound like Mahogany Rush's version. You should check it out.

  • Hi heatherdog1!!

Thanks for your supportive comments. I will check check that other version you mentioned. Dave does tune his guitar down somewhat, sometimes, on this tune. I think he drops the low E to D?

Stay tuned, Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • Hey, great jammin covers you got here...

    Enjoyed listening, great

    Oliver

  • WOW i love this version.

    Very creative.Cool jammin´ !!!!!

  • You are very kind, and I am humbled by the suggestion that our version even approaches the original version. Now please go check yourself into a mental hospital!

    David

  • OUTSTANDING! This is my favorite Beatles song and your version blows away the original! I love to watch your videos. You guys give me some great ideas of how to arrange songs on guitar.

  • This is a very original Norwegian Wood cover. I always thought this song would be better if it was longer. You guys did just that. I wouldn't worry to hard about messing up the lyrics, im sure The Beatles have messed up themselves a couple times. We all make them dont we? As Scott Adams once said "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." Question for Hughs, is there a reason you have a card on you headstock? Just curious.

  • The card is one of HMG's business cards, a picture of our little logo guy. I probably put it there for some important reason like, it fell out of my pocket... :-) and it fell off during this take! Thanks for your kind words of support. I laugh off the criticism - frankly, I thought the assault on the Rubber Soul album cover picture would draw much more fire! Please stay in touch!! Best, Hugh

  • Потрясающе!!! Where it is possible to download this record in mp3

  • Dear oonemisoo1337,

We at Handmade Groove Industries are committed to ensuring that each listener have an enjoyable listening experience. Your recent comment suggests that you were not happy with your recent. I will speak to our crew members to ensure that this type of error does not occur in the future.

    Sincerely,

    David Harris, CEO

  • Mr. Harris:

Sir. I am in receipt of the memo from the quality control division of HGI with copied signatures from the public information division manager and human resources director. They attached a list of the associated consequences for repeating a similar lyrical gaff like the one made by me in Norwegian Wood. Again I apologize for my huge error. I continue to study the complete unabridged Beatles lyrics should we ever record another of their tunes.

    Sincerely, and stay tuned, Hugh

  • this wasnt that good, especially since you messed up the lyrics

  • Very Good, but I couldn't quite make out the Norweigan Wood song!!

Anyway, this sounds very familiar to an Al Stewart song, possibly Nostradamus.

  • Yeah man, it's so hard to make out the Norwegian wood song because these guys say "I once KNEW a girl" and the real song says "I once HAD a girl". Completely throws it off! Try listening around 2:45. It's the same song played two steps lower on the guitar :) no capo! omgz

  • Don't you have more important things to worry about? Chill out.

  • Need this on mp3!

  • Wonderful!

  • Cool jam guys!

Also, the little album cover just made my day ;p

  • very impressive guys... i need to find a friend that likes playin acoustic songs like this, all my friends like playin hard rock/ metal... but this just sounds so amazing

  • watched it until 5:03 then skipped through until 8:29.

    thank you you guyses

  • I read your comment until the word "it," and then skipped to the "8:29."

    Keep in touch,

    David

  • Hi David

I was a bit drunk when I posted that and I didn't mean to come off as being snide.

I love that waltz and you two are really very good! Keep it up.

    Rod

  • You guys are very talented! Thanks and keep em coming!

  • Thanks for listening and we will keep them coming!! Stay in touch!!

    Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • you guys got the words wrong. just saying.

  • No, Lennon got the words wrong.

  • hahaha

  • Once again yall have helped me on another song thank you so much! It's funny now to me, my kid calls yall the Phish guys. Hope all is going well with you and the soon to be added members to your fam. :)

  • Nice.........

  • nice job. awesome!

  • nobody wants to read your shitty comment

  • You guys are on the right track

  • Great cover, I appreciate this. My favorite song of all time and you did a good job taking it and playing it in your own unique way.

  • Guys, we just love watching your jams, family from San Diego and Nebraska here and have officially been turned on to the Handmade Groove. Deadchief BW and family.

  • Well thanks so much!!! We appreciate you spreading the word, and of course, always love hearing from you!! When are we gonna see Corona De Tuna Band up here with us??

    Love, Hugh

  • Hughie and Dave, we are watching with family from San Diego and loving it. Green Light Meteor was awesome. Deadchief Bruce and family in Corona.

  • Thanks bro. Green Light is so special to me for obvious reasons... That it has been so well received out here is just pure grean light icing!! Thanks for your continued support. Hugh

  • Space , simplicity and repetition it´s a way of life appliable to everything. Arquitecture, cooking, painting, conversing and especially to making music. Nothing beats a jam with the sixth tuned in D. It would be cool to listen to that at a beach in a bonfire flying in eleven kinds of herbs and spices.

  • arquitecture, architecture who cares, awesome song, and if you don't know how to tune sixth to D, try a capo on second fret, sounds great either way, best cover I've heard on here, you even beat rockstar120483's hide your love away. Is that guitar on the right homemade or what?

  • HA!! That's a great comment.

The guitar on the right is a 1975 Martin 016NY that has been retopped and braced to the original 1960 specs.

Things were a tad foggy on the night we recorded this video, but I am quite sure neither of us have any strings tuned down out of standard.

Thanks for the support, and for checking in!!

    Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • Hugh, I'm Chris, good to meet you. It's so cool when you feel like you're actually talking with someone on here. I didn't think you were downtuned, I just play this song with a capo on the second fret. You gotta check out Hide Your Love Away by Rockstar122083 (the numbers may be a bit off but you'll find it) She has an angelic voice. But you guys have my top cover and she is now number two in my book. Keep rockin and making us all feel good. Thanks again.

  • Hey Chris,

Last laugh is on me! We performed this tune the other night and I watched Dave tune down his low E as we jammed into it from Bird Song!! Even funnier, you can hear and actually see him do it at the very beginning of this video!! Oh well, clueless go I into the night.

I watched the Hide Your Love Away video you recommended. I enjoyed it and her other music very much. Thanks.

    Cheers, Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • Hey, thanx for responding back. I know you must get thousands of comments but thanx for taking time to read mine. Beatles music means so much to me. To me it was Little Richard, Elvis and the Beatles who invented rock and roll. I'm getting an account set up on here so hopefully I'll get some of my better covers on here. I wasn't going to do it but after hearing you guys, I decided to do. You really inspired me, I guess it was the Beatle's music and how well you guys represented it. Later friend

  • Hi Chris,

The Beatles shaped my childhood appreciation for music and thinking.... Rubber Soul and Revolver were major influences on me - I remember exactly where I was when I first heard Tomorrow Never Knows on the radio. That Dave and I are inspiring you means a lot to us both. We play several other Beatle's tunes. Maybe we'll get another one posted up here? Keep playing and thanks for your kind words.

    Peace, Hugh - Handmade Groove

  • 5 stars! I envy your guitar skills! :D

  • This version is one of the best I've ever heard. I'm an avid Beatles fan and to hear this sent chills down my spine...very, very nice!

  • This is the kind of jamming I enjoy playing and enjoy hearning.

  • Once in awhile I come across a great video post. And yours is definately one of them!! Started playing guitar when I was 9 and gradually stopped around 25. I'm now almost 50. After hearing you guys I finaly picked up my guitar again.

This is one of my favorite songs. You guys played and sang just like it should be. I Thankyou!!!

  • Thanks for the kind words. We are honored to be a part of what brought you back to the guitar...A very high honor, indeed.

  • Great!5*****

  • awsome!

  • damn good.

  • Beautiful and mesmerizing!

  • Shaken and dazzled!! Sounds like a well made Martini!! Thanks so much for the kind words. We appreciate it very much. Please stay in touch with Handmade Groove!!

    Best, Hugh

  • I am shaken and dazzled! What a rendition! I like the way you overtured into the song...at one point I thought I was in an Indian village listening to some Ravi Shankar piece until you work your way into Norwegian wood. Thanks for posting your outstanding work.

  • very nice you guys are great but you messed up the first verse of the song brah's! I once HAD a girl...or should I say, she once HAD me hehe!

  • I HAD the lyrics right a long time ago when I KNEW them better.... I'll try to remember them correctly next time we do this tune. Thanks for pointing that out! And thanks for checking out Handmade Groove!!! Best, Hugh

  • what scale or scales did you guys use for this one?

  • Several...I use myxolydian and pentatonics a lot. The Eastern mode (Sometimes called the Spanish or Jewish scale) is constructed as follows: root b9 maj3 4 5 b6 maj7.

  • Most of chords I am playing in the jams are simple octave couplets around Dmaj and Dmin. Dave and I have never quite figured out what the hell I am doing scale-wise when I solo...

    Thanks for checking in! Hugh

  • your videos always surprise me. you can make really good music and there only 2 of you, that is amazing!

  • Thank you so much for the compliments. We have about a dozen songs that we have written together, None of them have lyrics and due to their standard jam/rock song structures, few stand up as just instrumentals. Thanks for reigniting the fires under our feet. Hugh and I agree that it's time to get off our asses and finish those songs!

  • I've seen most of your videos on here, and as a guitar player and Deadhead, I'd just like to say it sounds awesome. You guys play really good together. Do you write any original songs?

  • I can't find a listing in Deadbase where the Dead ever performed Norwegian Wood. I imagine if they had played the song, it would have sounded much like this.

    Great job, guys!

  • The pinnacle of compliments. Thank you!

  • 2:35 - this long until the main theme. i'm floored - nice.

    4:58 - beautiful harmony

    6:48-6:48 - awesome!

7:57 - joyful bend, man - very middle eastern feel to that

damn guys, i love your videos but hate being reminded that i'm not lucky to have a friend like youz closebye with the skills and commitment to this kind of guitar work. amaaazing!

  • Simple solution...pick up and move to Tucson. The winters are great and there are no hurricanes!

  • Brilliant. Jolly-o.
