i can recognize Piper laurie at the beginning when the family is reaching the home. She's incredible. This kid is so cute. But it 's the beginning,so sad a child can die from The AIDS and so unfair.
I remember watching this in seminary. At church, it was suggested that we watch the movie, of course that was when the AIDS epidemic was a huge scare and they encouraged members of the church to watch it to gain an understanding of the disease and maybe even to cope with it if it was something someone was struggling with.
this is such a great movie....you will need kleenex and lot of them.....truly a wonderful story to explain the loss of a child and what a family goes through.....not a families are the same but it all ends up the same
@hockathi yes I remember watching this in 1988 and I video taped it and so I really wanted to see it again....glad I found it and I hope other people watch it too.
The odd and sad thing is that not only did her son die of AIDS, but so did her brother. Both bc of contaimenated blood transfusions. I read that 90% of ppl with these types of blood transfusions contracted AIDS.
@ssepolio My husband is one of the 'lucky' ones. He has severe hemo type A and had many blood transfusions from 1975 onwards and it was an absolute miracle he did not contract the disease. Hes 40 today and lost alot of friends back then and its still painful for him to talk about. We we're watching a documentary last year on a gene some people carry called "delta 32" and it seems to make them immune to the AIDS virus. Im still learning about it but I hope somehow it leads to a cure.
That was a very sad and scary time. I am very sad for all those that lost their lives through blood transfusions and what not. I hope one day a complete cure is found for such a horrible disease
@happycat2010 Actually it may be sooner than you think. Doctors in Europe and the US, are making huge advances in the treatment of AIDS. In Germany, doctors have been experimenting with bone marrow transplants for AIDS patients, and it appears they are having some success. Its been highly encouraging to say the least. In case you're wondering, I'm not an AIDS patient, most of the women in my family are nurses, so I hear the talk every now and then.
Oh dear god stop dancing now.
