@shaerkhan82 Those emit an extremely low amount of radiation. And they're fired off when they're around 1000*F. I don't think the radiation is on the list of things to worry about when one is fired at you. :P But I see your point.

It's going to take a lot wars to get rid of all this nuclear waste, hurry the fuck up, keep dropping them in Libya and Afghanistan , by the time we are finished Libyans , Iraqis and Afghans are going to be glowing for many generations to come ., they will be brought peace, wanted it or not.
@Kioti077 When a baby is born the first thing one asks is. Is it a boy or a girl? In Iraq they as Is it normal! Try watching the film called Beyond Treason. Our soldiers die for oil profit only. It's a joke!
Thank you for this very informative interview. Can you find a professional with equivalent understanding/knowledge of Canadian nuclear energy and perhaps also Mexico, so that we could better understand the state of nuclear energy in N. America.
Uhm... Looking back at the major fuck-up and catastrophic natural disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that happened while the Gov. boddy that was supposed to regulate the petroleum industry was ''sleeping'' with the industry, it is surprising to hear that the same risky dealings are still going in with the nuclear industry. How come Germany could take care of the problem 25 years ago, but the US is still swimming in a political quagmire about this ? That's INSANE!
So the fuel rods are in baths beneath the power plants yes? And how many hill sides are there in the US? Would Texas or Arizona accept large concrete containment vessels in their deserts (Death Valley eg)? A problem of long stnding fter 3 Mile Island as much as if not more to the point than Chernobyl or Fukushima.
americans are afraid of their own government spy agencies and police state will put you in prison if you talk about the mau mau president too much. no freedom of speech in america today. nuclear plants are very dangerous and we have no plans to help the people cope with this potential disasters here
the mau mau tribe member, his father, and grandfather members of the mau mau kikuyu tribe who killed the british in kenya, something terrible has happen here.
My question is what happens to the spent fuel eventualy? does it stay radioactive forever? if so why have nuclear power..see this is some shit I understand short term we can talk about safety concerns but ultimately its kinda like why the fuck do we have nuclear anything? Are you trying to kill us girl? excuse me!
LMFAO the pools are susceptible to acts of terror. I'm sorry but I'm so over this terrorist thing can we get some new fuckin rhetoric? It's like every fuckin idea is fueled along based on the war on terror. LMFAO wtf.
The interviewee is presenting the German model too positively, we have huge problems with our way of storing our old nuclear rods. Which just proves that nuclear power can never be safe and we need to abolish it today rather than tomorrow.
@sirellyn Geothermal trumps them all! And don't say it can't be tapped anywhere because it can. They use another kind of liquid that has a lower boiling point as water. /watch?v=4Z9WVZddH9w
@boumar19721972 I think I love zeitgeist more than I hate it. But even though their facts are mostly correct, their conclusions can be very off base.
Geothermal is also very situational. Not surprisingly the ground below doesn't have the same consistency all over the planet. Some places you have to dig 3-4 miles to get slightly warmer ground, some areas have lava a couple feet below ground. And drilling/maintaining the hole is VERY expensive.
@sirellyn So money is the issue. It's the same for everything. Why don't we have humans on Mars? Not because we don't have the technology, because it's expensive. Money.
It has been recognised by a wide range of other commentators:
food is not fairly shared; it goes to those who can afford it or have the means to grow it.Famine exists largely because the hungry cannot afford to buy food, not because there is insufficient food produced.
@boumar19721972 I'm quite sure there is more than simply money preventing man from living on mars.....what about sustainable ecosystems? food? air?....as for your hungry people not being able to afford food, research a bit into North Korea and some other regimes and have a think about those comments too. It's how they control the people.....More to the story than money
Shoot all the crap into the Sun, along with all the spy satellites and WMDs. It is time to use all this technology for a good cause. FUEL FOR THE SUN!
@JangosSoulja Not a good idea. The chances that a rocket launch fail are way to high and if this were to occur, would likely release massive amounts of particulate contamination high into the atmosphere; where it would travel on a much larger "planetary" scale.
Just use the spent uranium as DU rounds and use it in Iraq and Afghanistan. That way we get rid of the white trash (working class) who make up most soldiers as well :)
But the reason why the US has it is because of the NIMBY syndrome; people know it needs to be recycled and refined but no one wants it anywhere near their house; if you lack all the components for a complete nuclear industry cycle then you're going to end up with 71,000 or so metric tons of spent nuclear fuel sitting around doing its thing.
Excellent segment. Thank you for pointing out that the U.S. has the largest collection of "spent fuel." People don't realize the danger of the nuclear constipation. One of the largest collections of this toxic poison is near the country's largest city, New York City, as is mentioned. It's time to bring an end to nuclear power.
I hope people don't get too adverse to nuclear power as a result of the Fukishima incident. It's still a sensible source of electricity, especially as we work to reduce carbon emissions. Hydro and nuclear are the only proven carbon free sources of energy. Also, coal emits nuclear radiation also - often in larger quantities.
@VampyrMentality Very Good...You might be one of just a FEW who understand that 911 was carried out by Mossad and not some guy on a Dyalisiss Machine. Geothermal, wave power, tidal power, wind, solar, hydro dams. Why the hell are we still generating power with primitive fuels?
boumar19721972 11 months ago
@boumar19721972 Because you like your energy prices the way they are, and not say 5-10x more.
Hydro is about the cheapest out of those you listed but is very situational. You have to have a large river, lake etc. with a large height difference.
Nuclear is popular because you don't need a specific plot of land, in fact you can put multiple (or more powerful reactors) in smaller areas.
I've looked up pricing for solar on my house and its expensive. 25-60k takes 10years to pay off and lasts 25y

There is one way to solve the long lived ("transuranic") waste problem assocaited with Light Water (conventional) nuclear reactors.
See from Google TechTalks the following presentation (on Youtube):
