barefoot, hmmm, im not gonna try that here, it was so damn cold to day so my car did not like to start, so i use a swedish survival tricks, " start gas "
go out tomorrow, and maybe use some floating hands fire, maybe i get it on film,
This is a great idea and I'm probably going to get one from you, but again, if you're going to start pumping these out, maybe film how you do it, but then again, maybe you don't want to do that now that your selling them....Dash
@mrriprock2 I plan on making a tutorial showing each step in detail. I've avoided doing this because so many already exist, but since I'm making these available I've decided I better provide good instructions so folks enjoy using them. Video instructions are way better than paper ones any day!
Great idea, Jack! I struggled learning the bow drill on my own. Finally, I decided to buy a set, coincidentally for $25. It was the best money I ever spent. The value isn't just in the wood used, but the skill & confidence gained from it. Once I finally understood fire by friction using a proven set, it opened up my world to using materials in my area. It served as a model to help me realize what I was doing wrong. And, it worked so much easier as well.
@gundog5 When I was first learning I'd go until I thought my head was gonna explode! My technique was awful and I had no idea what type of wood to use. Having a proven set would have sped things up considerably. I practiced for about a year before I was able to get my first ember. That's no joke either.
Hey Jack; great video and a great offer on the set. I have a downed willow in the yard and was wondering what to do with it. Would green wood work to make a bow-drill set or does it need to be seasoned? Many thanks!
good stuff! Just the other day i was commenting on another video saying how important a good working set is for a beginner. Buying a kit will spare you so much wasted time, effort, and frustration. If anyone reads this and is on the fence about buying the set, DO IT! An invaluable learning tool.
@Woodenarrows I actually bought a pair of pants a few days ago. They're probably gonna get turned into shorts...heh. I really do get overheated when I wear pants. As long is the weather is relatively dry and not too windy, I'm in shorts!
good job as always, i was just about to ask how the weather was over on your side when the video cut to the tobbogan.. wind has been crazy today over here.... i gotta go find some warmer clothes so i can go play in the dirt haha
@IHatchetJack shoot, wind is howling here in Habersham. had to line some windows in this old house today with plastic to keep the breeze out.. 18degrees tonight... now if we can just get some of that darn white stuff again

@IHatchetJack That there is some dedication. I can absolutely believe it's no joke as everything you said is true for me as well.

@IHatchetJack Yup a year until my first coal is about right. It was another few years until I got a coal again. That sucks!

@Knight8365 Definitely needs to be seasoned. Just block it out and let it dry for a couple of weeks and you'll be all set.
