  • Interesting to see a Surfliner loco in the snow!

  • Awesome video and the power rock! T.C. 5-9-2010

  • great video!!! great scenery, and backgrounds,

  • If anyone here likes F40's and wants to see one, look out for nj transit trains when your in new jersey

  • So how late was the coast starlite running?

  • Correct, Mister. I like that P42. Great engine!

  • Wow! They actually had some powered F-40PH's on two of those trains! And very interesting to see them combine the F-59PHI with the P-42DC's on the Starlight! 5*****

  • Sorry to tell you, but that Amtrak F40 is unpowered. The main mover has been removed. A weight has been put in, also it is used as a baggage car. The cab works, though. Units like that are called "cabbage" units. Also, did you see any exhaust coming off the unit, or any noise?

  • Ahh. I was looking for the baggage door, but I didn't see it. NPCU, You're right I didn't hear any noise or see exhaust either. Thanks for the info.

  • Dang nice vid. I have seen and shot vid of the Coast Starlight many times over the years. I am like the biggest fan ever of the Coast Starlight (LOL). I have never shot vid of a Cascade train nor have I seen a Cascade train in person. Every so often a Cascade F59PHI engine gets mixed in with the Coast Starlight and sent to Los Angeles, California temporaraly but I have never in person seen an Amtrak Cascades engine on the Starlight.

  • Amtrak does own some real F40's still...

  • The ones they do own have been de-powered...long time ago. You might see an F59 with a standard North American cab instead of that round thing which might lead to confusion.

  • Actually, they have 8 that are stored serviceable and in running condition but they are never used.

  • No, there are still 8

  • The cascades NPCU's don't hold baggage.

  • *K5LA

  • ...okay, I should be more specific, I like the KL5A horn...since Amtrak uses different locomotives.

  • Nice video. I've always loved the Amtrak locomotive horns! It has an unique, instantly recognizable sound to it. Usually, I can easily tell the difference between an Amtrak train and a freight train. Amtrak horns have a softer, almost calming sound to them, especially if you're actually riding the train.

  • Great shot of the Starlight.

  • great videos! The love the sounds of those trains.

  • Union Pacific...CSX holds the record, the train is always forced to let the frieght trains paSS by! it gets really old! Besides the schedules keep getting longer and lounger.

  • Superliner <3

  • I've never seen a Cascades with 3 engines.

  • That's becausr the FP40 on the back is unmotorised.

  • the guy doesnt respond to anyones comments, thats just him

  • yeah the infamous crappy starLATE

my train's trip was partialy scrapped by this train line

i was happy in seatle and feeling down when i arrive in l-a

  • Coast Starlight...Infamous? What's it infamous for?

  • Its those Union Pacific freight trains! They always mess around on the main line, making the Coast Starlight late. They should put another track there.

  • Good! I don't like very much the first train and the 3rd. The spain built carriages seems too small for the big locos ;P

  • @giudeppemario they were built with the generator cars (batwings) to look more fitting for the F50PHI and ex-F40 NPCU

  • Excellent vantage point with the Superliner train cruising by at speed! Thanks for sharing!

  • I love the Cascades trains. My favorites are the Cascases and Surfliner trains

  • Union Pacific is to blame for the starlight's problems...great video, that second cascade was great

  • 507 looks great, but her cab isn't all that cozy, and this 8-32BWH doesn't load/accelerate as fast as her FP59PHI "native" Cascades loco's. That's why her engineers have named her "Slow Sally", written in sharpie inside above the cab window. LOL!

  • lol, why do you think people are calling it the COAST STARLATE?,,, it ran 6 mins late into LA on 3/19/07, not bad at all.

  • ive taken it home to Sacramento from both directions many times and the latest ive been is about 1 hr, but on average it was between 15-30 mins late, once i came in about 10 mins early

  • I love the unusual power lashups on these trains. Since you mention the "infamous" Coast Starlight, what's the latest its ran when you were aboard? For me it was 8 hours late once, not bad compared to the 14 hour delay aboard my last trip on the Sunset...

  • Nice far away horn at 00:45 there. Nice vid.

  • love cascades&starlight great job! also: to see 507 on starlight:happens occasionally,...but to help out 467 cascades is a never; rare. Exelent footage brock

You should do more train videos!

  • Nice run-bys!
