  • Every so often I have to come back here and listen. Timeless.

  • @TheMrForster Thanks for dropping by again.

  • magic...

  • Thanks.

  • Love it - what changes do you make to the chords for low G tuning?

  • No changes at all.

  • I am a REM fan but I have to say I prefer your cover over thiers! Ken you are a very skilled musician. Many thanks for sharing, can;t wait to see what is next. Still hope one day to here you sing some grateful dead, maybe Touch of grey. lol Thanks again

  • Thanks so much. I don't know anything by the Grateful Dead, I'm afraid.

  • Hey Ken, keep doing this great job.. ! Sounds really nice..

  • Thanks.

  • Great! Would you happen to have the chords & lyrics in a pfd?

  • Sorry, I just printed out the words.

  • Very nice job Ken...!!!

  • Thanks.

  • I like it. My favorite REM song.

  • Mine too.

  • Sound is really good. I like that Uke too. It has an interesting design. :-)

  • Thanks very much.

  • thanks

  • Thank you.

  • yeah! I like it!

  • Thanks.

  • wow, that was great, my favourite!

  • Thank you.

  • Great song, beautifully done!

  • Thanks Kim.

  • I think that this is my favourite REM song and you played it very, very well !

  • Thank you.

  • Superb! I like this REM cover and your U2 "I haven't found ..." cover very much, your versions are GREAT! Extraordinary clear sound of your voice! Keep going! 5*

  • Thank you. I'll keep going.

  • so nice.

  • Thanks.

  • beautifully done

  • Thank you.

  • This is cool Ken. Very gentle sound.

    Paolo

  • Thanks Paolo.

  • Really like this one Ken, great sound. Excellent.

  • Thanks Nick.

  • Perfect song for you Ken! Great job on it too. *****

  • Thanks very much.

  • Yeah yeah yeah indeed.

    Very cool

  • Thank you, Coyote. It's a fun song to do.

  • Absolutely fantastic! Your voice suits this song perfectly!

  • Thank you Barry.

  • This sounds great Ken :)

  • Thanks Caroline.

  • Thanks for catering to us low-G types (note defensively hyphenated compound modifier).

(I'm sure it'd have sounded great however you'd strung it.)

  • For some reason it sounded right for this song. I tried several ukes. Normally I really don't get on with low G tuning.

  • Nice Job, loved the moody black and white

  • Thanks Errol.

  • Really, really wonderful!

  • Thank you, Lynda.

  • '92? Wow how time flies. Loved the "hey baby". Nice to see the old Kala in action. Excellent job Ken!

  • I've used the "old Kala" a lot to record MP3s straight into the computer. But here it is recorded without the pick-up and sounds pretty good I think. Thanks again, Deach.

  • ken , do you record straight on to the h2 or do you use it as a usb mic ?

also on second listen i noticed the slight elvis accent on the "hey baby"

    excellent

  • Also a barely detectable Presleyesque movement of the shoulders ...

If I'm next to my laptop I use USB straight into Audacity. Mostly nowadays (like yesterday) I record onto the H2 (or H4n). The sound quality is the same.

  • I never knew what most of these lyrics were. If nothing else, thank you for enunciating the words perfectly!

Seriously, though, Ken, this was a lovely version and a very different interpretation of a modern classic.

    5 stars

  • Thanks Tony. It's always interesting when you find out what previously unknown lyrics are about.

  • Very nicely done Ken, one of my fave REM songs to!

  • Thanks for the comments, John.

  • Sweet.

    Lovely song.

The Andy Kaufman movie is ace is well...first time I watched it, didn't really like it....2nd time I loved it...discovering the uke may have helped!!

  • Thanks very much.

  • AFTP was an awesome album

    great job Ken

  • Thanks K, I agree. Some of REM's songs are really tricky to sing though.

  • i think its because the are not written as songs he just seems to ramble on , which he does do very well

  • My favorite REM song! My favorite Jim Carey movie, too. And one of my favorite covers by my favorite uke player in the UK!

  • I think it is probably my favourite REM song too. There are so many good ones though. Thanks for the comment.

  • very awesome indeed!

  • Thank you muchly.

  • Great song choice and masterful playing Ken!

  • Thank you, Brad.

  • Nice singing buddy. I've always loved your vocals... I need to do a bit of research on REM now.

  • REM are a very original band.

  • Excellent cover! Like the archtop, too.

  • I won it earlier this year.

  • Great job on the song. Would you please talk a bit about playing low G, high G. I am using a high G string but I keep running across songs that require the low G. Thanks.

  • This song doesn't require low G. I just decided to use that uke, the only one I have tuned that way. To me, low G sounds wrong. And besides that the re-entrant string is so useful.

  • excellent Ken this is one of my all time fav songs. and you knocked it out of the park.

    cheers

    Ken G

  • Thanks very much, Ken.

  • What a really great performance. I'd even say I liked it better than the original.

  • Nice of you to say that, Don.

  • Another cracker. I've wanted to ask you about low Gs before....now I know that you approve!!

  • No, I personally don't like like low G's. I keep that uke tuned to low G to give me a few more notes for playing melodies. However, it did seem to work on this song.

  • Excellent Mr,Ken.

  • Thanks Tsutomu.

  • great job

  • Thank you.

  • Awesome cover of an awesome song Ken.

  • Thank you, John.

  • Brilliant ! R.E.M. is a great band !

  • Thank you.

  • Wonderful, this was excellent, Ken!

  • Thanks very much, Wilfried.

  • Very well done.

  • Thank you.

  • So great! Love REM!

  • Thanks.

  • That's nice!

  • Thank you, Ralf.

  • this is great Ken! really enjoyed your take on it.

  • Thank you, Russ.

  • REM are my favourite band of all time. Love this song. Great job on a great song, Ken :)

  • Thank you, Anna.

  • What a nice interpretation & performance! I really enjoy the variety in your strumming, especially the occasional fan strokes for added spice.

  • Thank you. Yes, as you probably know, I'm not a big fan of strumming patterns.

  • You have a nice voice for REM songs. Well done.

  • Thank you.

  • Great take on this classic song. Even my cool 13yo daughter Agnes, who is a die hard punk rocker said "wow he's sooo good!".

  • Thanks R. And thank you, Agnes.

  • First thing I had to do was take my uke and strum along. Love it.

  • You're quite welcome.

  • So very good!

  • Thank you, Steve.

  • Wonderful interpretation, Ken.

  • Thanks very much, Seeso.

  • Ken - I really do your classic rock/pop covers - this was no exception. Excellent!

Congrats - up there with your Cure covers!

  • .....I missed out the word ...".Like/love/appreciate/enjoy"....take your pick or substitute them all Ken!

  • Thanks very much, Stew.

  • I love this song, I love REM and I love Andy Kaufman. Just brilliant

  • I no idea who Andy Kaufman is, Shane. I 'll have to look him up. Thanks.

  • Ah, he was the guy with the strange accent in Taxi.

  • Thanks for this, Ken. It's the first time I've understood the lyrics. Well, I mean *heard them clearly*.

    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

  • In an English accent, you mean? Except for the "Hey baby" bit - that sounds like I've been injected in the mouth with Novacaine.

  • nice job

  • Thank you, Stephen.

  • Feeling stalkerish again :-) I honestly don't hang around waiting for you to upload something :-) I'm kinda freaked out that I was listening to the album just before finding this! :-O This is so much fun Ken! Has made me smile, I did chuckle at the at the "hey baby" bits, excellent! :-D Favourited! :-D All the stars in the universe :-) X

  • That's just spooky. Thank you Ruth.
