Interesting how they went about removing that sulfur taste. Some crazy science going on at Dogfish, lol.
I can't help but think about how some brewers go about burtonizing the water they brew with to give it a sulfur taste. You gents at Dogfish Head could probably sell that yeast on to other brewers if the taste it imparts is something similar.
Sulfur beers aren't my personal preference, so I'm glad you took steps to stop it from overpowering the end product. Hopefully I'll get to try it soon.
I depend on Dogfish to do these weird experimental beers. They've definitely disappointed me in the past as well (theobroma I'm looking at you), but for the most part I think they nailed this one. I'd say it's one of the most interesting beers I've drank all year, smells really good, very drinkable and palatable. I think if I was in ancient egypt building a freakin pyramid, this would totally suffice for my breakfast lunch and dinner :D
Looks amazing, just got a bottle. :) If any of you are fortunate enough to get a 120. LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. I drink my bottle after a couple of weeks and It tasted more like a slightly hoppy barleywine to me. It needs some time to let the prevalent alcohol taste settle down so that the hops can really punch you in the face like it should. Keep it up Sam.
@2011blueman, I am fortunate enough to work for someone that has the 120 in stock basically ALL THE TIME as a matter of fact I have on in my fridge right now just waiting to be opened!! I live in Reading PA and we have THEEE Best DFH selection in the area and PLENTY OF IT!!!!!
@dwalk4824 I live down near Allentown, you guys have a store or bar up there that has 120 consistently? Send me a PM if you are willing to share that info, I'd be grateful :-)
anybody know where to get snifters exactly like the one in this video? @0:37, do i need to look for brandy glasses? i have a 2 tulips, and 2 20oz snifters but they aren't like the smaller one he has here and in a lot of the brewmasters episodes.
@torch357 I got some 14 oz. Lenox Tuscany snifters from Amazon.com and I love them. I just checked the site and the particular ones I bought are out of stock. It is hard to tell how big the one in the video is, but I hope this helps.
Dogfish needs to work on its distribution. I can't get this or any of the more rare dogfish offerings anywhere (INCLUDING THE DOGFISH HEAD RESTAURANT IN VA!). I can buy full cases and cases of indian, 60, and 90, but NEVER 120 in any form. I'm a dogfish fanatic, and if I can't find the stuff how is the average consumer going to get exposure to the best of the brand? I'd give someone's left nut (not mine of course) for a 6 pack of 120 IPA.
@2011blueman Come to Lynchburg, VA. We have 2 specialty beer stores that always have the rare Dogfish bottles. There hasn't been a distributed Dogfish release that we haven't gotten in the last year.

I would really like to try this beer. I also think it's funny how Sam always appears to be drunk. I can't blame him, though.

Hopefully I will get this one in Las Vegas. Looking forward to it very much!

@2011blueman Just a little info. I'm not sure where you live, but read this: blog.beeriety.com/2010/03/09/is-your-state-restricting-your-beer
120 minute usually clocks in over 15% abv, limiting it from a lot of states.
Also, DFH only distributes 120 to select resellers they trust. And, in most cases, are only permitted to sell 1 bottle per customer.

Nice ingenuity with the DMS (I would assume) problem! I would guess that the wild yeast you wrangled would be bottem fermenting?
