My AB Rocky (Johnson Type) is really sensitive to the heat - even where we live - up in the woods in WA state. Our summers are pretty mild, maybe gets upwards to 90 degrees or so at the most. He loves to lay in the sunshine on our deck in the morning but come afternoon he's kinda miserable. So we showed him the hose and he LOVES IT. All it takes is about 15 mins playing in the hose and he is set for the rest of the day!
I love my Johnson type (pure breed) so much,only trouble is he steals my blanket,hogs the bed and snores louder than me.They are the best dogs,all around companions,protectors,and loyal loves.If the U.S.Marines have them as their mascot,you know they are special!

@trashman0812 He does look pure, but that doesn't mean he's purebred or was ever registered. LOTS of shelters pick a breed they think the dog is in your boy's case American Bulldog then put American Bulldog mix because they can't prove he's not a mix.
@dcelis96 Actually they are not. They are sensitive to the heat. They cant stay outside in extreme heat without some way to cool them down. Mister, water cooler, ac... something. They will have a heat stroke even int he shade.

@mgbrawl Scott our more of the performance type they are more known for there working ability because they are not as bully , Lots of Johnson's are super active dogs that have a good amount of drive but the heat does get to them more.
You keep him outside all day you should get the shit slapped out of you!!!!i keep my ab in doors most of the day here in so cal and she still gets super hot.i turned a in ground pond into her pool and shes in it alot trying to keep cool.they run hot these dogs.

@MisterGreenGuy Well if its 112 degrees why would you have him out in it... Bulldogs are notorious for not handling heat well. Could easily die of heat stroke and even if he doesn't he is still miserable in that heat. Thats irresponsible if you leave him out in it. If it was just for the vid then I understand but I really hope you don't have him outside all day in Texas.
Quick question: I have a nine month Scott type and I am trying to gauge how big he will get, but there are not many AmBull owners in the Northeast. At what age did your good looking Johnson stop growing? Was there much growth from 1 year on?? My boy is around 80 lbs now... Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Impressive bully! Johnson's are loyal, cuddley, protective, and love people. They love people unless they happen to be making unexpected drop by's anyway...

@frankt04 dd the same with mine. except it picked up a fighting habit towards other dogs because the previous owner tried to fight it. so now i'm going through the process of trying to undo all the harm that owner did. it loves people, but it'll try to fight any dog that comes near it. and its as big as this 1 and just reached a year old. it might be mixed but looks exactly like this dog. my problem is that i also have a bull mastiff/chow mix and a little chawawa. gonna be a long struggle.

Exact same body type as my May. She is brindle and white though and is only around 85 lbs and this guy looks to be about 130 if I'm judging right. He is gorgeous! You have a perfect show boy right there! I hope you show him. If not, you are missing out! I show with the NKC.
@t5tuber i think its a bulldog thangg... They tend to be flatulent. I know exactly when my johnson bull lets one go, like he just farted some dead animals and rotten eggs!

@mgbrawl ....no, theres 2 major types for american bulldogs....johnson which was refined buy john d. johnson and look more like the original bulldogs the settlers brought from europe and the scott type started bred buy allen scott which is more like big american pitbulls...almost hybrid pitbulls in a way!

i meant more in terms of temprement and althletisiim, working ability etc. they do seem much more chilled as opposed to their smaller counterparts, which seemed to me as more of a mastiff/bandog temprement.
@mgbrawl ..those bulldogs seem to b pretty mello compaired to mine..johnsons overall r vary hard workers and r high energetic...but with every breed each dog has its own personality! on my channel i have vid of my 9wk old johnson jumping in my pits ass!

they're my guard dogs, they can stand the hot days with no problem...
people need to stay away from breeders that say these dogs cant stand the heat...
most likely their particular dogs cant stand the heat, so you need to look somewhere else...

Beautiful dog, but more like a white Rottweiler than the classic "Old" Southern bulldog. Kind of sad, they are almost extinct now.
