The cough assist machine is used for patients who cannot cough up secretions due to some disease such as muscular dystrophy in which the mmuscles deteriorate and the muscles in the chest are not strong enough to move air into, and out of thu patient's lungs. So the cough assist machine does that to help them cough.

Cough assist I think would REALLY help Tay-Sachs children live a longer life. I mean, one reason they die so early is because of infection. Usually respiratory Infection. They lose the ability to cough up secretions up. I think the cough assist machine would be able to help them cough up all that junk or at least get it up, to where it can be suctioned easier.
