LOL at title!!! "amateur lawyer" What the FUCK is that???? Your either a lawyers or you're not. It is a crime in any state to impersonate a lawyer, some states its a felony.
Actually, your absolutely wrong on this. For the purposes of this section, a citizen shall be presumed to be of good character unless demonstrated otherwise."
@sgbenne Good fucking Lord almighty!!! I'm glad I don't live in the backwards state of NH!!! Lord! Here in California you can represent yourself of course, but that is no "lawyer". But to have an "ametuer lawyer" of good character is freaking hilarious and scary. Wow!
@Rooster1Cogburn If you actually knew the history of the Bar in the United States, you may not be so glib about the idea of the right to designate someone to speak for you in courts; you also may then feel "scared" that citizens in California have so easily given up their rights to the lawyers.
@sgbenne I agree, the bar is an evil enterprise of treasonous pigs. You never want to be an court as a pro se. you want to be in your proper person (pro per) Also being a people is far superior to being a citizen.
@Rooster1Cogburn Notice the vast difference in the cost of a "licensed" attorney in California versus New Hampshire, and notice that in ABA client reviews of attorneys in both states, the NH ones consistently rate at the top, while the California ones rate in the bottom 10%.
@sgbenne Why do you put "licensed" in quotes??? You don't think there is such a thing as truly licensed attorneys? Regarding your rating stats, even if they are true, what do you think it means? Think REAL hard about that. Hint: Do you think that California clients would rate NH attorneys as top as well? It depends on who is doing the rating and what the average case is. Demographics in CA are a hell of a lot different than NH and the law is FAR FAR more complicated here.
@sgbenne ah yes, but a good lawyer knows the judge presiding, and how they will INTERPERET the law. We do not. That is why I pay lawyers to do my dirty work.
@Rooster1Cogburn A lot of simple freedoms we enjoy are criminal acts in over legislated states such as Massachusetts & California. As of 1/1 2012 you can't open carry a firearm on your person or in a vehicle in California. What freedom is next on Portintino's, this isn't the wild west, police state agenda? Yeah; We're glad you don't live in our little backwards state too. BTW: California's 2010 violent crime rate per 100,00 is 440.6 whereas New Hampshire's violent crime rate is 167 per 100,000 &
@70scarrestoguy the majority of New Hampshire violent crimes occurred in towns along the Massachusetts border.Yeah; The Bear State is a real sophisticated place, to be admired & used as a national model of society- not! Smog, violent crime rates, robbery/home invasion's so common that most residences have bars on their doors & windows imprisoning people within their own homes.I can't remember the last time I locked my doors at night.I guess lawyers must keep real busy defending a state of felons
@70scarrestoguy I'm not sure what backwards bullshit you've been subjected to, but you can carry a firearm in your vehicle in California. Do you intentionally spread bullshit around or are you just dumb? Please answer this question and I am really interested to know. Thanks.
@Rooster1Cogburn If I've been subjected to any "Backwards Bullshit", it was from > California gov./ new gun laws 2012. California Open-carry citizen handgun ban. Supported by cops who cannot tell whether openly carried weapons are loaded or not. Violators pay $1,000 plus 6 months in jail (misdemeanor).Gun rights advocates vow to carry rifles and shotguns instead.Californians can still get permits for concealed weapons, though it is increasingly difficult.Law effective January 1, 2012.
@70scarrestoguy I was looking up California crime statistics & loss of Californians civil liberties. I saw the bill AB144 written by Portatino-D, then read the Governor signed it into law in October 2011. The new Law went into effect on 1/1/2012. If you don't possess a California CCW license, you'd better read the new law. Of course the new law doesn't apply to LEO or State employees(parole officers, corrections officers etc) allowed to open carry while performing their duties.
@70scarrestoguy Go back & reread my original retort to you thanking God you don't live in a backwards State such as New Hampshire. I wrote that; A lot of freedoms we enjoy are criminal acts in over legislated states such as Massachusetts & California. As of 2012 you can't open carry a firearm on your person or in a vehicle in California. The relevant phrase being "open carry".My point was as of 2012; A handgun may not be visible to the public while being carried or transported within a vehicle.
@70scarrestoguy Not one thing you wrote addressed the issue I raised of carrying firearm in your vehicle in California. Are you one of those stupid shits that spout out some bullshit and then when you get caught, you just spout out some irrelevant bullshit in hopes of covering up being caught for the earlier bullshit? Is that it?
@Rooster1Cogburn Apparently you skip over the wording that you don't like, so I'll copy & paste the words for you this time but then I'm done with you. [over legislated states such as Massachusetts & California. As of 1/1 2012 you can't open carry a firearm on your person or in a vehicle in California] CAN"T OPEN CARRY!!!!!!!! Has it sunk in yet? No handguns visible on your person, no handguns visible in your vehicle. If your the typical Californian, no wonder CA has such high crime rates
@70scarrestoguy Wrong again. Transporting a firearm in a vehicle in California required that it be in a LOCKED case with the ammunition separate from the gun. This has been the law for over 10-years. Hell, I have a 1999 Cal. D.O.J. publication that has that law written in there. Wake up.
Tax pro here! The income tax does not pay for roads, latrine, police, libraries etc. Income tax pays for national defense and social security, and just the interest to the federal reserve.

@buddymac201 I don't think it's that they live in one of the most corrupt areas in the US, it's that they have video of the corruption. In most places in America nobody sees the corruption until it's too late.
All of those things you just mentioned comes from local taxes most of the time comes from property taxes and state sales tax and nice scare tactics in "thosands of starving people storming your house". do you not realize that not too long ago we didnt have the welfare system? where were those thosands of starving then? local taxes i agree with federal income tax i dont and i think that fed Gov't just gets in the way of progress in this country.
all this "i don't want to pay any taxes at all stuff"......thousands of years ago most humans came to the realization that there is safety in numbers and gathered into groups that turned into villages that turned into towns that turned into cities, that turned into much larger entities. If you want drivable roads, and don't want thousands of starving people storming your house for food, want free public schools, a fire department to show up when your house is in flames...it will require taxes
We aren't against all taxes. We are against taxation without representation. We are against the government using our money in ways which we have not sanctioned. Our money gives government its power. When it does things that it does, ruining and taking the lives of millions of innocent people, here and abroad, perhaps the most powerful influence we have over them is to withdrawal our financial support from their organization entirely.
@inkey2 I'm not trying to criticize, but taxes do not go to those things. As a matter of fact, not one penny goes to those things. This argument stands no ground once you understand how the tax system works. Most people are afraid of the IRS. The IRS can be a powerful tool for the citizens to use if they researched into how.
You do not need taxes for roads, for schools, or for any of those services. In fact, the use of a government entity which is not directly involved in the use of such services (i.e., students, drivers, people with houses on fire) do not do as good a job as those who do benefit directly from them. Private road building, fire depts, police depts., etc. have all been very successful in the past before the tax man came to town and stole our money.
@wingsuitfreak not really. The Highway system and the Autobahn were both built by gov't funds. Are the capitalists that will build these roads the same ppl outsourcing our jobs to China? Don't trust them to repair your potholes on your street. Never happen. Never seen a private police force that upholds the rights or everyone, not just those paying their salary. Never happened. Private schools further the seperation of the classes. Who is selling you this bs. Please cite your sources.
@wingsuitfreak If that was the case the South would have succeded in seceding from the union. Lack of government led infrastucture developement in southern states led to a distinct advantage during wartime for the North. But dont take my word for it, go check out a history book at the library. Alternatively you can stay ignorant, as is one of the few rights that no government can take away no matter how hard they try.
@wingsuitfreak BULLSHIT "Private road building, fire depts, police depts., etc. have all been very successful in the past before the tax man came to town and stole our money" What are you some fucking stupid crackpot or something??? Go back to the freaking Romans and the only way to do public works projects is forced taxes. Stupid shit.
You guys are providing a valuable lesson of how not to do it. People you need to learn how not to contract with Admiralty Courts. By Standing has a Freeman on the Land under Common Law you do not come under their Jurisdiction. I suggest you look up Rob Menard and John Harris and download Veronica Chapman's excellent book. Empower yourself with the correct knowledge and you will always win.
Check out FMOTL and TPUC just google for us you will be amazed at how far the deception goes and how many people are waking up to it and seeing through it.
and then get bonuses based on how many tests they prescribe. You ARE NOT going to tell me if I dont have private insurance by a specific date that I will no loner be allowed to have my own private insurance and must go with mandated public insurance. F*ck you buddy, and f*ck the horse you are sleeping with. This county is taking more and more of our rights away every day in the interest of special interest groups, and its time to stop this sh*t now!
People, I have done Pro se, Pro per, and court watcher work for 3 decades. I have also watched and worked to monitor abuses for as amny years. First of all the thing that the BAR ring knockers are counting on is that you will give them the "benefit of the doubt" when it comes to their activities. NOT!!! Do not make that mistake. It is one that they have used since they have accupied the court system/sham. THE ACTIONS ARE COORDINATED BY THE RING KNOCKERS AND IN A VERY NARROW CHANNEL. mgk/gdw!
"I am a single mother of two small children (5yof, 2yom) from RI. I do not have much income, so I am on my state's medical insurance for me and my son (my daughter is covered under her father's), collect some foodstamps for the three of us ($62.00/month), and am on the Child Care Assistance program my state offers. The CCA pays some or all of your day-care expenses depending on hours of employment and income level. Right now, my children have complete coverage."
Where did you get this information from? I would like to read it from an official source. Not that I don't believe you, but I just have not heard this before. I do not believe in judging a matter before I hear all the facts.
What is your point? Ivy was on welfare 2 years ago? Nobody understands "liberty" for their whole lives, and once Ivy's eyes were opened, she worked hard to not depend on government assistance anymore.
Growing up, you're taught that the government is around to help. Ivy tried using it for that. She knows better now, but let's crucify her for doing it before!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hey douche, there's no need for name calling. What are you 12? Time to move on from jr. high.
Roads are a public good just like welfare. Or do you think the 10s of millions of uninsured working poor (in this the richest country on the planet) should just be left to starve to death, homeless and destitute with zero chance of upward mobility? That would be an improvement for society...how?
The libertarian vision of freedom; "i've got mine."
If that's the case, how would you feel about giving me half your paycheck? I lost my job, so by your logic there it's only my right to take part of what you're earning for myself.
I really have no problem that a % of my paycheck goes to assist people in this country who are in legitimate need of help. How is society benefited by allowing these 10s of million of fellow Americans to become destitute?
Why is that problem for you?
I do have a problem with a % of my paycheck funding wars on the other side of the planet that are meant only to expand the American Empire and promote industrial colonialism.
It's a problem because it's not voluntary. We wouldn't be complaining if people were donating money voluntarily, we're complaining because the money is taken from us by force.
And while I believe that society would benefit from liberty, my primary concern is protecting the liberty of the individual. I'm not willing to violate the rights of individuals, even if violating peoples rights makes society better somehow.
@JoelMatton If you voted, then it is voluntary. The government said when you voted them in that they were going to use taxes and what they were going to use those tax dollars for. How would you feel if the government decided ok, we won't tax you but you can't use anything paid for by tax dollars. So you get fined for going to a public toilet, using a public road, your house catches fire, we just let it burn. You get sick, you can't go to a public hospital, I bet you would complain even more
@BroomeBlocker4 So under your system because of a vote (or not) you automatically agree to be taxed to any degree, and that those taxes levied can be used for anything the voted in politician wants as long as it's defined as for the public good. Like surveillance cameras, or denial of rights, or giant airplanes for politicians travel, or a new mansion for the mayor, or funding biological diseases to kill whoever, or paying bankers for being financial f-ups, or keeping lobbyists happy. Whatever
@ChewyBees So under your system, there are no taxes, no public libraries/schools/hospitals. No money for roads, cleaning and maintaining roads, no rubbish pickup. No police, no fire brigade, no ambulances, except for private hospitals and unless your a celebrity your probably not getting into one of those. Basically you will have widespread poverty, disease, rubbish everywhere and anarchy.
Liberty activists sound like religious fundamentalists when they follow liberty for the sake of liberty regardless of the consequences. I'm a market anarchist because I can see clearly that the state makes the majority of our lives worse. I know for a fact that there would be more wealth, cooperation, & satisfaction in a market anarchy over the long term. Hypothetically, if liberty resulted in a hell on earth for eternity, I would not support it, and I bet you wouldn't either.
It's certainly not a problem, when it goes to those who genuinely need it. Unfortunately, a minority of those on welfare need it. It's just another example of the government subsidizing something to the point where it's readily taken advantage of.
Frankly, it's not the government's job to be playing the role of Robin Hood, and they seem to be doing a very bad job of that, taking more from the middle class and giving it to those who not only are unable, but unwilling to work.
You know this how? Do you have some survey or statistics to back up your statement? Aren't you just repeating conventional (and false) conservative "wisdom?"
Quotes by Ronald Reagan do not count as proof of your statement's veracity by the way.
I did some research. It may have been misleading, but it was teenage mothers who stay on welfare for life. Of all the people I've ever met who are on welfare, which isn't all that many, maybe only a dozen, one, maybe two families actually needed it. The rest were just on it because they didn't want to work, or didn't bother enough with hygiene to be socially acceptable.
It's five years for federally funded welfare, some states have an even lower limit, and some states have no limit at all. Those states with no limits bear a much larger burden of welfare than those with limits. It's not that there are more disabled people, it's that people can abuse it indefinitely.
What do you mean by the status quo of the 19th century? There's no way to turn the clock back, but having the basic rights that our ancestors had isn't going to put us all into log cabins.
MORON. yes they can starve to death if they can't take care of themselves. you want men with guns to come to my house and steal my money and give it to other people. wow how compassionate. socialism is an extremely violent form of government
The government that takes some money from your paycheck to re-invest it in society and provide for the fundamental infrastructure that allows you to earn any money in the first place is "extremely violent?"
Yet you gladly would condemn 10s of million of working poor to homelessness, starvation, and death.
You a social darwinist, a eugenicist. Are working poor somehow morally inferior to you?
If you don't pay taxes, the government will steal property from you and/or throw you in jail. Doing that is violent. The government is based on the principle of "do what we say, otherwise we'll use violence against you."
And no libertarians have anything against giving money to poor people, we just want the money to be donated voluntarily (ie private charity).
Well Joel if its any consolation think of it this way; civilization costs money. Without civilization your ability to "make a living" ceases to exist and life tends to become brutish, nasty, and short.
Why are libertarians so enamored with money anyway? You have like a hoard mentality..."mine, mine, all mine."
You seem to equate civilization with government. I'm aware that civilization costs money, but I don't think this money needs to go to the government. Private companies could build roads, private security companies could protect people, private charities could help the poor, and so on. Of course things cost money, but private companies could do the things the government does.
Libertarians are not enamored with money, we're enamored with protecting people from force.
I get what you're on to, but you have to look closer...Private companiesARE the government...it is their monetary interests that are keeping this society chasing its tail. Our government, which at least is supposed to be created by US, has been the led around by the ears by private companies...get real, stop putting status quo capitalism on a pedestal....it's time to think outside the box.
Yes and private companies do build roads every day of the week. But the public owns those roads.
Would it really be a good idea to let Haliburton own our highways. Haliburton owned highways patrolled by Blackwater security is your idea of "freedom?"
Only the largest businesses in the world would have the resources and capital to build their own private highways.
And they can not be held to account by the public...
(1)A person can act civilly within society without one bit of money in his pocket. He can respect the rights of others and do them no harm. He can refrain from trespassing, robbing, or using violence on others, all the while living within civil society. His life may be shorter, harder, and less enjoyable than others who have money.
It is Government which costs money, but why? Can't the do-gooders, who only go into government because they love to help people do it for free...volunteer?
(2) Libertarians are enamored with money because it is a medium of exchange which allows people who would otherwise have to produce every item of need and want for their own survival to specialize and to obtain goods and services from other specialists.
Money allows people to acquire things they could not otherwise provide themselves. It is the means for making life less of a struggle, for increasing life span, health, and enjoyment, rather than having to eke out a meager and short existence.
actually, if you have a fucking clue... which you don't. you would know socialism has deep roots in eugenics. karl marx believed in it... i do not need the government to make a living, i would be happier without them in my lives. Would it be ok with you, if i grabbed my akm... took half your paycheck... and gave it to the needy (mainly me). you would like that right/
You're the one who claimed that those who are not as fortunate as yourself should be left to fend for themselves...or die. Minorities are overwhelmingly members of the working poor. That's not eugenics?
Only a purely self made man could claim he "don't need government." It's a false claim though. Government provides for and protects you every single day, as tough as you are.
So when do you move to Somalia to enjoy life without government interference? I heard their roads are terrible tho.
Your argument there is somewhat faulty in the fact that the government never provided and protected before, and civilization thrived. When the government provides for people, they're likely to become dependent upon it, and couldn't survive without it.
Some civilizations probably can thrive without government. Egalitarian hunter gatherers and nomads lived without government for centuries, although they were not "volunteerists."
We don't live an egalitarian society unfortunately. Our society has racial, class, ethnic, gender, regional biases. All types of prejudices.
Your utopian dream ignores the realties of our distopian existence.
Our civilization would not thrive without some form of government. Volunteerism = anarchy
I never said we shouldn't have any government, that would be irresponsible. I was saying we need far less government than what we have. And yes, there's still unfriendly people, our current administration is a prime example of that. Having a government that doesn't exploit the class differences between groups of people would be a great way to dissolve the boarders between most groups.
One of he main objectives of the constitution is to "promote the general welfare."
Allowing people to live in abject poverty, as many did before the new deal, is not only immoral and unethical, it's also unconstitutional. Especially in the richest country that has ever existed.
What part of "Congress shall have the power to collect taxes" do you not understand?!?
Do you pick and choose the sections of the constitution you think should apply to you, and ignore the others?
lmao. pure hilarity. nowhere in the constitution does it say promote the general welfare. the purpose of government is to protect and maintain individual rights. that is it. you want men with guns to come kill me if i don't pay for other people to live. a second civil war is coming, because of people like you.
Specifically the Preamble and Article 1 Section 8.
You talk a lot about civil wars and killing on the battlefield. So...you would be willing to take up arms against the government and kill innocent civilians (innocent deaths are inevitable in war) because you're upset that you have to pay taxes?
Even though the constitution explicitly says congress has the power to collect taxes....
Yes I would. the us constitution gives congress the power to levee taxes, but not a direct tax. some bs amendment gives them that power (they say). Would you be willing to put people in jail and/or have them killed for NOT paying taxes? you are a thief and a criminal. you use the power of govt to steal money from other people because you are a pathetic loser who needs other people's money to survive
i do believe in it. welfare meant something different than it does today in this context. once again, are you willing to kill someone because they don't want their money stolen and given to someone else? are you for obongo's mandatory health insurance plan? are you willing to put people in jail or kill them for not having health insurance?
The general welfare certainly did mean something different in the 18th and 19th centuries when our country had a small population, was mainly agrarian, and was populated by people who were almost entirely self sustainable.
That country doesn't exist anymore.
12 million americans died of starvation during the great depression.
If the government allows 12 million people to die it is not meeting it's constitutional obligation to "promote the general welfare."
yes it is. government was created to protect and maintain individual rights. not to steal money from one person and give it to another. please paypal me half your paycheck because i need it more than you do. if not you're racist anti-american right wing nutjob
Protecting individual rights is only one function of the constitution. Outlining the powers of congress, the judiciary, and the executive branches is another function.
The constitution as written by the framers clearly and explicitly gives congress the power to collect taxes. The 16th amendment gives congress the authority to collect income taxes.
if you do not fully know the law please do not comment. The best thing to do say nothing and go educate yourself. Let me reference you to the U. S. Code Title 26
and after you understand the terminology, it is clearly evident that you cannot be charged taxes for your labor because income tax is a capitation and excise tax, not a labot tax. Your labor is protected by the consttution and the 16th Amendment
I don't believe the constitution granted congress the right to tax us so that they may hire their constituents and relatives to jobs paying $100,000 a year, nor grant congress the right to pass laws so that they could profit off those laws. They arent passing health care reform. Theyre passing the buck. Medical costs are out of control because DRs and hospitals are out of control with greed. I watch Drs pull 20K a week in base pay for passing out aspirin (cont)
That's the justification for the *enumerated* powers of Congress. You don't really take the enumerated powers to be written as "for example?" Such that the framers would specifically write down certain powers for the Congress with the intent of "and anything else you feel like", in direct contradiction to the 10th Amendment?
what will you say when people have had enough and another civil war happens? and someone like me kills someone like you? are you willing to fight to the death for your nanny state? or do you want to contract out your violence to someone else? (the govt/police)
What I gather from your statement is that if she was arrested, she must be guilty, and any rumor that you read about her on the internet must be true, so Burn The Witch!
Does that pretty much sum up your position or would you like to clarify?
what's hypocritical about informal reports on current local events? i think that there is a lack of checking certain info, sure. but perhaps that is not the purpose of this channel. perhaps it's just another outlet from the bottom up, which is a good thing. dave just films what's going on and relays reports from others via youtube and other video/social networks. we can discuss the effectiveness in various ways, but i don't see hypocrisy. care to elaborate?
I'd wait for the whole story to come out before judging, thanks to Ridley we actually know it happened. Hes like invisible body armour for you Newhampshirites man the UK needs people like that.

70scarrestoguy 1 month ago

70scarrestoguy 1 month ago
@70scarrestoguy Not one thing you wrote addressed the issue I raised of carrying firearm in your vehicle in California. Are you one of those stupid shits that spout out some bullshit and then when you get caught, you just spout out some irrelevant bullshit in hopes of covering up being caught for the earlier bullshit? Is that it?
Rooster1Cogburn 1 month ago
@Rooster1Cogburn Apparently you skip over the wording that you don't like, so I'll copy & paste the words for you this time but then I'm done with you. [over legislated states such as Massachusetts & California. As of 1/1 2012 you can't open carry a firearm on your person or in a vehicle in California] CAN"T OPEN CARRY!!!!!!!! Has it sunk in yet? No handguns visible on your person, no handguns visible in your vehicle. If your the typical Californian, no wonder CA has such high crime rates
70scarrestoguy 1 month ago
@70scarrestoguy Wrong again. Transporting a firearm in a vehicle in California required that it be in a LOCKED case with the ammunition separate from the gun. This has been the law for over 10-years. Hell, I have a 1999 Cal. D.O.J. publication that has that law written in there. Wake up.

all this "i don't want to pay any taxes at all stuff"......thousands of years ago most humans came to the realization that there is safety in numbers and gathered into groups that turned into villages that turned into towns that turned into cities, that turned into much larger entities.

When it does things that it does, ruining and taking the lives of millions of innocent people, here and abroad, perhaps the most powerful influence we have over them is to withdrawal our financial support from their organization entirely.
dtmbcorp 2 years ago
@inkey2 I'm not trying to criticize, but taxes do not go to those things. As a matter of fact, not one penny goes to those things. This argument stands no ground once you understand how the tax system works. Most people are afraid of the IRS. The IRS can be a powerful tool for the citizens to use if they researched into how.
brettdusek 2 years ago 2
You do not need taxes for roads, for schools, or for any of those services. In fact, the use of a government entity which is not directly involved in the use of such services (i.e., students, drivers, people with houses on fire) do not do as good a job as those who do benefit directly from them. Private road building, fire depts, police depts., etc. have all been very successful in the past before the tax man came to town and stole our money.
wingsuitfreak 2 years ago 3
@wingsuitfreak not really. The Highway system and the Autobahn were both built by gov't funds. Are the capitalists that will build these roads the same ppl outsourcing our jobs to China? Don't trust them to repair your potholes on your street. Never happen. Never seen a private police force that upholds the rights or everyone, not just those paying their salary. Never happened. Private schools further the seperation of the classes. Who is selling you this bs. Please cite your sources.

@wingsuitfreak If that was the case the South would have succeded in seceding from the union. I do have a problem with a % of my paycheck funding wars on the other side of the planet that are meant only to expand the American Empire and promote industrial colonialism.

fczwartek 2 years ago
It's a problem because it's not voluntary. We wouldn't be complaining if people were donating money voluntarily, we're complaining because the money is taken from us by force.
And while I believe that society would benefit from liberty, my primary concern is protecting the liberty of the individual. I'm not willing to violate the rights of individuals, even if violating peoples rights makes society better somehow.
JoelMatton 2 years ago 15
@JoelMatton If you voted, then it is voluntary. The government said when you voted them in that they were going to use taxes and what they were going to use those tax dollars for. How would you feel if the government decided ok, we won't tax you but you can't use anything paid for by tax dollars. So you get fined for going to a public toilet, using a public road, your house catches fire, we just let it burn. You get sick, you can't go to a public hospital, I bet you would complain even more
BroomeBlocker4 1 year ago
@BroomeBlocker4 So under your system because of a vote (or not) you automatically agree to be taxed to any degree, and that those taxes levied can be used for anything the voted in politician wants as long as it's defined as for the public good. Like surveillance cameras, or denial of rights, or giant airplanes for politicians travel, or a new mansion for the mayor, or funding biological diseases to kill whoever, or paying bankers for being financial f-ups, or keeping lobbyists happy. Whatever
ChewyBees 1 year ago
@ChewyBees So under your system, there are no taxes, no public libraries/schools/hospitals. No money for roads, cleaning and maintaining roads, no rubbish pickup. Basically you will have widespread poverty, disease, rubbish everywhere and anarchy.

I'm a market anarchist because I can see clearly that the state makes the majority of our lives worse. I know for a fact that there would be more wealth, cooperation, & satisfaction in a market anarchy over the long term. Hypothetically, if liberty resulted in a hell on earth for eternity, I would not support it, and I bet you wouldn't either.
truthadvocate 1 year ago
It's certainly not a problem, when it goes to those who genuinely need it. Unfortunately, a minority of those on welfare need it. It's just another example of the government subsidizing something to the point where it's readily taken advantage of.
Frankly, it's not the government's job to be playing the role of Robin Hood, and they seem to be doing a very bad job of that, taking more from the middle class and giving it to those who not only are unable, but unwilling to work.
AreThereNoMoreNames 2 years ago
"a minority of those on welfare need it."
You know this how? Do you have some survey or statistics to back up your statement? Aren't you just repeating conventional (and false) conservative "wisdom?"

fczwartek 2 years ago
I did some research. It may have been misleading, but it was teenage mothers who stay on welfare for life. Of all the people I've ever met who are on welfare, which isn't all that many, maybe only a dozen, one, maybe two families actually needed it. The rest were just on it because they didn't want to work, or didn't bother enough with hygiene to be socially acceptable.
AreThereNoMoreNames 2 years ago
"I did some research."
Is it published somewhere? Peer reviewed?
No one can stay on welfare for life. The limit is 5 years. Your misconceptions about the social safety net are dated.
I don't understand why libertarians think it would somehow benefit the American people to return to the status quo of the 19th century.
Talk about the tyranny of dead ideas...
fczwartek 2 years ago
It's five years for federally funded welfare, some states have an even lower limit, and some states have no limit at all. Those states with no limits bear a much larger burden of welfare than those with limits. It's not that there are more disabled people, it's that people can abuse it indefinitely.
What do you mean by the status quo of the 19th century? There's no way to turn the clock back, but having the basic rights that our ancestors had isn't going to put us all into log cabins.

otmshankshank 2 years ago
"an extremely violent form of government"
The government that takes some money from your paycheck to re-invest it in society and provide for the fundamental infrastructure that allows you to earn any money in the first place is "extremely violent?"
Yet you gladly would condemn 10s of million of working poor to homelessness, starvation, and death.
You a social darwinist, a eugenicist. Are working poor somehow morally inferior to you?
Hey, Ayn Rand was a c*nt.
fczwartek 2 years ago
If you don't pay taxes, the government will steal property from you and/or throw you in jail. Doing that is violent. The government is based on the principle of "do what we say, otherwise we'll use violence against you."
And no libertarians have anything against giving money to poor people, we just want the money to be donated voluntarily (ie private charity).
JoelMatton 2 years ago 22
Well Joel if its any consolation think of it this way; civilization costs money. Without civilization your ability to "make a living" ceases to exist and life tends to become brutish, nasty, and short.
Why are libertarians so enamored with money anyway? You have like a hoard mentality..."mine, mine, all mine."
"Give to Ceasar the things that are his."
fczwartek 2 years ago
You seem to equate civilization with government. I'm aware that civilization costs money, but I don't think this money needs to go to the government. Private companies could build roads, private security companies could protect people, private charities could help the poor, and so on. Of course things cost money, but private companies could do the things the government does.
Libertarians are not enamored with money, we're enamored with protecting people from force.
JoelMatton 2 years ago 3
I get what you're on to, but you have to look closer...Private companiesARE the government...it is their monetary interests that are keeping this society chasing its tail. Our government, which at least is supposed to be created by US, has been the led around by the ears by private companies...get real, stop putting status quo capitalism on a pedestal....it's time to think outside the box.
lisademaras 2 years ago 2
"private companies could build roads."
And they can not be held to account by the public...
fczwartek 2 years ago
(1)A person can act civilly within society without one bit of money in his pocket. He can respect the rights of others and do them no harm. He can refrain from trespassing, robbing, or using violence on others, all the while living within civil society. His life may be shorter, harder, and less enjoyable than others who have money.
It is Government which costs money, but why? Can't the do-gooders, who only go into government because they love to help people do it for free...volunteer?
ed2276 2 years ago
(2) Libertarians are enamored with money because it is a medium of exchange which allows people who would otherwise have to produce every item of need and want for their own survival to specialize and to obtain goods and services from other specialists.
Money allows people to acquire things they could not otherwise provide themselves. It is the means for making life less of a struggle, for increasing life span, health, and enjoyment, rather than having to eke out a meager and short existence.

otmshankshank 2 years ago
You're the one who claimed that those who are not as fortunate as yourself should be left to fend for themselves...or die. Minorities are overwhelmingly members of the working poor. That's not eugenics?
Only a purely self made man could claim he "don't need government." It's a false claim though. Government provides for and protects you every single day, as tough as you are.
So when do you move to Somalia to enjoy life without government interference? I heard their roads are terrible tho.
fczwartek 2 years ago
Your argument there is somewhat faulty in the fact that the government never provided and protected before, and civilization thrived. When the government provides for people, they're likely to become dependent upon it, and couldn't survive without it.
AreThereNoMoreNames 2 years ago
Some civilizations probably can thrive without government. Egalitarian hunter gatherers and nomads lived without government for centuries, although they were not "volunteerists."
We don't live an egalitarian society unfortunately. Our society has racial, class, ethnic, gender, regional biases. All types of prejudices.
Your utopian dream ignores the realties of our distopian existence.
Our civilization would not thrive without some form of government. Volunteerism = anarchy
fczwartek 2 years ago
I never said we shouldn't have any government, that would be irresponsible. I was saying we need far less government than what we have. And yes, there's still unfriendly people, our current administration is a prime example of that. Having a government that doesn't exploit the class differences between groups of people would be a great way to dissolve the boarders between most groups.

otmshankshank 2 years ago
One of he main objectives of the constitution is to "promote the general welfare."
Allowing people to live in abject poverty, as many did before the new deal, is not only immoral and unethical, it's also unconstitutional. Especially in the richest country that has ever existed.
What part of "Congress shall have the power to collect taxes" do you not understand?!?
Do you pick and choose the sections of the constitution you think should apply to you, and ignore the others?
fczwartek 2 years ago
lmao. pure hilarity. nowhere in the constitution does it say promote the general welfare. the purpose of government is to protect and maintain individual rights. that is it. you want men with guns to come kill me if i don't pay for other people to live. a second civil war is coming, because of people like you.
otmshankshank 2 years ago 2
You need to read the constitution.
Wow. Just... wow.
fczwartek 2 years ago
Yes I would. the us constitution gives congress the power to levee taxes, but not a direct tax. some bs amendment gives them that power (they say). Would you be willing to put people in jail and/or have them killed for NOT paying taxes? you are a thief and a criminal. you use the power of govt to steal money from other people because you are a pathetic loser who needs other people's money to survive
otmshankshank 2 years ago
So if you don't believe in the legitimacy of the constitution , what exactly do you believe in?
fczwartek 2 years ago
i do believe in it. welfare meant something different than it does today in this context. once again, are you willing to kill someone because they don't want their money stolen and given to someone else? are you for obongo's mandatory health insurance plan? are you willing to put people in jail or kill them for not having health insurance?
otmshankshank 2 years ago 2
The general welfare certainly did mean something different in the 18th and 19th centuries when our country had a small population, was mainly agrarian, and was populated by people who were almost entirely self sustainable.
That country doesn't exist anymore.
12 million americans died of starvation during the great depression.
If the government allows 12 million people to die it is not meeting it's constitutional obligation to "promote the general welfare."
Is it?
fczwartek 2 years ago
yes it is. government was created to protect and maintain individual rights. not to steal money from one person and give it to another. please paypal me half your paycheck because i need it more than you do. if not you're racist anti-american right wing nutjob
otmshankshank 2 years ago 3
Protecting individual rights is only one function of the constitution. Outlining the powers of congress, the judiciary, and the executive branches is another function.
The constitution as written by the framers clearly and explicitly gives congress the power to collect taxes. The 16th amendment gives congress the authority to collect income taxes.
Why do you hate the constitution?
fczwartek 2 years ago
The constitution is illegitimate. Read Lysander Spooner before you reply to this YouTube comment.
Chrisnoscrub047 2 years ago
Didn't Spooner cite the constitution as the main source for his argument that slavery was illegal?

if you do not fully know the law please do not comment.

That's the justification for the *enumerated* powers of Congress. You don't really take the enumerated powers to be written as "for example?" She was arrested for welfare fraud in excess of $500. Don't you think that's a bit hypocritical, Mr. Ridley?

How did you come by this information?

what's hypocritical about informal reports on current local events? i think that there is a lack of checking certain info, sure. but perhaps that is not the purpose of this channel. perhaps it's just another outlet from the bottom up, which is a good thing. dave just films what's going on and relays reports from others via youtube and other video/social networks. we can discuss the effectiveness in various ways, but i don't see hypocrisy. care to elaborate?

I was questioning Ivy's hypocrisy, not Ridley's.
Mr. Ridley, are you going to cover Timothy Logdson's trial?

the way you posed the question [to dave ridley] confused me. have you contacted ivy with your concerns?

Some libertarians believe that defrauding the government somehow furthers their political goals.
In this case it would not be hypocrisy if she was defrauding the welfare system as opposed to legitimately using it.
It's the of gold standard of libertarianism; reverse socialism. To take from the many and give to myself.
Maybe she will win some kind of "liberty' award.
