  • wasnt that great of a shot

  • behind the backboard... nothin but net

  • young Larry on my channel

  • Why didn't it count? did he step out of bounds?

  • @dawnoflife3 back then the ball was ruled out if at anytime it was over the back board

  • Thumbs up if the larry bird three quarter shot brought you here. funny how both of them didnt count.

  • LeBron travelled.

  • y didnt it count??

  • ..but the basket didn't count after all.

  • larry.... larry got bored to easily.

amazing talent+boredom="im gonna shoot this whole game left handed today"

  • That's BS!! That shot should count!! Haha

  • That shot didn't need to count, him making that shot raised the morality of the team. good stuff

  • still not better then lebrons fade away, no looks pull up one that didnt even touch mesh last year with the heat.

  • @Dave416 How many championships does Labroham have, he's a douche bag sorta like you!!!

  • @Dave416 LeBrons was easier it was on more of an angle Bird's was directly behind the backboard and they didn't count it. It was a preseason game played at Hartford Connecticut.

    On YouTube...

LeBron James makes Shot Behind the Backboard! In HD

  • one of the greatest players I ever had the pleasure of watching.

  • @ksb100pr

I'd bet you Bird didn't practice that shot much at all. That's not like him to work on too many plays that won't benefit him in a game. He just made the shot b/c he's bad ass. He could've been in the tunnel and he probably would have made it.

  • 0:25 lmao I've never seen one player make so many players on the other team's bench jump up in amazement

  • Looks like the Rockets didn't learn their lesson in 1886 if you know what I mean.

  • @Patekennedy Try that when you're being chased by NBA players with 19,000 people watching you and you didn't catch the pass right....then talk

  • I never understood why you weren't allowed to shoot over the back of the goal if you are not out of bounds and the ball never touches the back of the backboard or the shot clock? The "air" behind the backboard is the only air on a basketball court that counts as out of bounds, and for no good reason.

  • LOL at the reaction of the Houston bench at 0:13 :D

  • @Patekennedy then u try when ur falling backwards and being guarded

  • THAT SHOULD OF COUNTED

  • @ ry3304 true that

  • @ksb100pr

    lol wtheck?

agreed with everything except that talent horseshit man lols...

NO - BIRD HAD AMAZING NATURAL TALENT AND WORK ETHIC, That's why hes so great. He had both lold duh....

  • Funny thing is lols, Bird was probbly the most niggerish guy you'll ever meet.

Talked shit more than any black guy in the league, got into fights, go into scrums for loose balls and what not, predicted shots/wins, and just dominated the entire league in his prime lols.

Personally I think Bird was more black than Magic lols.... ;.

  • @ry3304 lol so true

  • thiss was a bad ass moment, but i alwayss wondered y he took tha shot, when he had plenty of time and teammates comin down the court to help.

  • me and my dad can hit taht

  • I've seen everything!

  • Bird was rockin that mullet

  • I thought those shots counted as long as it doesn't hit the back of the backboard.

  • why did he take this shot? with a full shot clock?

  • larry bird IS the 2nd best NBA player ever

number 1 is obviously Michael Jordan

  • @joeycanfly24 hmmmm... Larry Bird better than Russell, Kareem, and Johnson. I think not.

  • Sports fans are such fucking childish idiots, arguing over who's better, who's shot was better, blah blah...just enjoy greatness when you see it.

  • Dude on the other team's bench @ :27 grabs his head in disbelief haha....

  • KOBES SHOT WAS BETTER. Because he got fouled.

  • @Mr360Dashing7210 kobes was a hail mary , bird actually shot that like a normal shot

  • LeBron traveled...

  • the ball cannot pass behind the basket?? what a dumb rule

  • I've seen everything!

  • quick release on the behind the backboard shot, lol.

  • Still better than kobe and jordan

  • @thenintendogamer no jordan is better

  • It's all these years later, and i *still* don't believe he did it... LMAO

  • not that amazing nowadays

  • @WhereTheCheeseAt nowadays u suck dick

  • @WhereTheCheeseAt are u stupid?

  • imagine Larry Bird in a black athletes body...put him in Vince Carters body.

may god have mercy. tehre wuld be no jordan talk.

  • @ThugLifeJ If that happened, Larry Bird would have exploded because it would have overloaded on god-given talent and ability.

  • Forget the shot and check out that mullet!!

  • I was at that game. Legitimately at that game . . . only no-basket shot that has stayed with me for 24 years ;-)

  • @bigleagues shove a doughnut in your mouth grandpa

  • @kobebryantsucksbad funny stuff . . . but I'd rather not eat what you can't finish.

BTW, we do agree that Kobe is OVERRATED.

  • @bigleagues I was there Im the one who made this video pretty cool huh

  • @kobebryantsucksbad Good seeing you again!!! :-)

  • The bird is the word.

  • @ksb100pr bird had no talent?

  • @dropkick23 only a moron would say that..Larry was the smartest player of all time

  • @jtv92q no only a moron like wouldn't

  • too bad it didn't count :(

  • Larry Bird is the smartest player to hit the NBA hard court. He had to be, becasue he couldn't run or jump. Yet, in the end, he still shredded the athletes around him. :)

  • did you forget jordan

  • awesome hair

  • should've counted. it's larry fucking bird.

  • nowitzki's ancestor!

  • Thanks for posting this, its a great clip to show Bird's creativity and shot making ability. Love the reaction off the Houston bench and the announcers enthusiasm! Other players have made this shot but Bird was the first one to do it, and it was nothing but net-never touched the rim. Too bad it wasn't counted, I think the rule at the time was that a player could not use the backboard as a shield. I think if I was the official and anybody made a shot like this I'd want to count it just for fun.

  • Why do they have 2 3pt lines?

  • @ELrabadi

the shortest one is college, farthest one is nba

  • @metalcorefan911 No, longer one is for nba + college boys, shorter is for wnba and college girls..

  • @Sufidude15

i just took a stab in the dark man, i havent really started watching nba til this year lol, i decided to flaunt my lack of knowledge in this subject

  • as great a player that he was, that was probably his best vertical leap

  • y are pple fighting over who is better. from what i know those players have great respect for each other.

  • love it

  • Does anyone know why the ref didn't count the basket?

  • @saragiotis because he is white

  • @saragiotis According to NBA Rule 8, Section II, part B, "Any ball that rebounds or passes directly behind the backboard, in either direction, from any point is considered out-of-bounds." Kobe made a similar shot last season (and LeBron last night) and it counted. Supposedly I heard the rule was changed recently, but from the article above, it has not. I think it just depends on which ref wants to be a douche.

  • @thunderfan77 thanks thunderfan. It's a stupid rule in my opinion. Why make illegal something which is so spectacular?

I also watched Lebron's shot. Unbelievable. Furthermore it was at the end of the shotclock!

  • @thunderfan77 @thunderfan77 thanks thunderfan. It's a stupid rule in my opinion. Why make illegal something which is so spectacular?

I also watched Lebron's shot. Unbelievable. Furthermore it was at the end of the shotclock!

  • I saw this play live as it happened on TV. Announcers are Gil Santos and Bob Cousy. I believe the station was WLVI Channel 56 out of Boston. I was 13 and watched a ton of games and/or listened to the radio at that time. Sometimes we would turn down the TV volume to listen to Johnny Most off the radio broadcast. Those were great times to be a Celtics fan, and its great to have them back once again. Just like back then, they are now fun to watch and a winning team. Larry Bird my favorite all time.

  • Too bad it doesn't count.

  • look how react the houston rockets guys on the bench.... best shot ever!

Basketball got his best skill level at 80's.. TRUE STORY

  • you dont see plays like that anymore

  • @kekoa1013

last year there were like 6 or 7 over the backboard shots, einstein

  • Gerald Wallace. During the 2009 season vs the 76ers. Drifter behind the backboard shot. His was much more flashy and its actually worth putting on youtube.

  • "Oh hoho ive seen everything" lol'd

  • bird = god

  • I Honestly think he was the best player of all time

  • great, did the last guy make the shot?

  • why not counted?

  • wait a minute..... that guys WHITE!!!!!

  • I bet he shot this same shot ten thousand times before that one.

  • who did this first larry or jordan

  • I wanted to see if the oponnent would nail the 3 ball in the end :(

  • Its not fly like an eagle, its fly like a Bird, Larry Bird.

  • Larry Legend and Magic...the two best...not the most athletic...but the best. those alive at the time (like me) were lucky to have seen such finals between the Celtics and the Lakers

  • 30*

  • They need to go back to these rules, now anybody can get 3- or 40 points without even playing defense, ex. kobe and lebron

  • @TexasRevolution2010 kobe and lebron not playing d? come on

  • Larry Legend

  • im glad they changed the rule

  • nice mullet, larry

  • Amazing!!

    Didn't even hit the rim!!

  • bird has a mighty mullet

  • @jay112273 in 1987 almost all of us had mullets.

  • @tranursei i seen larry s mullet on display at a natural history museum once..

  • @tranurse You are so right!

  • wow he just went alright ill take this playground shot and made it

  • Between the shot and the mullet, this video is beautiful.

  • The reason Bird to me is the best is because his amazing plays were made with his brain, not his athletic ability.

  • @NR92CP

I think they were made with both.

  • @NR92CP

That's a slap in the face to Jordan and Magic. Or Duncan. Or Kobe. I tend to think Bird's lack of pure athletic ability is an excuse to make him the typical 'smart, hard working' white player while relegating superior physical talent to the dregs of just being born that way. As if giving him an excuse and elevating him. That shot against Houston in the 81 Finals was TOTALLY INSTINCTIVE and so was his game. It just looked different because he couldn't do what his peers could physically.

  • @cbaldwinjr A very strong and respectable counterpoint. I'm not knocking any of the players you mentioned due to their innate natural abilities, I just find it remarkable that Bird was able to become just as successful and dominant without many of those natural talents.

  • @cbaldwinjr

YEahhhhh. That's the white boy excuse and beyond.lol Bird was a strong physical player, get over yourselves already. Bird fans act as if everyone in the NBA in the 80's & 90's looked like Ray Lewis and shit. Players weren't as strong physically like they are today. So that whole Bird not being all physical like most black folks is just stupid. Bird was great back then, but let's not get carried away about the whole mentally better than Jordan or Magic. That is just stupid.

  • @hushg2000 But he was mentaly better then them ? And had a better basketball IQ or at least better then Michael, Magic and Bird were pretty even.

  • @hushg2000 You're thinking of the 50's and 60's. Players were just as physical in the 80's. Darrell Dawkins still has the highest vertical and the most backboard breaks records and his prime was in the 70's.

  • @NR92CP OOKKKKK.... hahaha 6 rings later and multiple MVP's and scoring percentage, Jordan continues to be 3rd all time to Boston fans.lol How many Jordan shoes do you have?:)

Jordan was all skill and beyond, Bird's come and go, but Jordan is one of a kind. No other athlete comes close to what he did in the court. I man who can control a game by itself. If that is all athletic ability and no brain, then why is it that most athletes suck in todays game? Please, humor me. :)

  • @NR92CP You mean his hand eye coordination. Babe Ruth was fat, he couldn't run, he smoked cigars but was a great baseball player. Was that cause he was a great athlete? No, Babe had great hand eye coordination, just like Bird. I bet Bird would have been a great baseball player too.

  • @NR92CP exactly

  • @NR92CP That doesn't make any sense. You can't prove that Bird was smarter than any other b-ball player in his ear. That shit doesn't make any sense! Basketball IQ can't be proven! Bird smarter??WTF?? That is the most ignorant thing I have ever read on youtube. I guess white folks are really trying too hard to make Bird seem more than what he is.lol Bird became a coach and had a solid team, too bad he couldn't beat GOD (MJ) himself using his full "BRAIN" with not one physical movement. lol

  • @hushg2000 Funny how Jordan didn't win until 91 after Magic and Bird were pretty much done, even though he was drafted in 84. What solid team are you talking about. Bird made the rest of his team HOF'ers, none of them had any accolades whatsoever, weren't great college players, they were a bottom of the table team until he got there. Why don't you go ask your "GOD", I bet you Jordan has nothing but praise for Larry Bird, Larry was a great Basketball player

  • @BroomeBlocker4 Jordan was younger, and the Bulls were shit when he joined them.

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte The Celtics were a bottom of the league team, Bird instantly turned them around when he joined them, so by your own logic Bird > Jordan. Your saying Jordan needs a star team to win, Bird doesn't

  • @BroomeBlocker4 For me Bird is the most creative and intelligent player ever. He did things nobody can repeat. But the thing is, Jordan won 6 championships, and probably had won 8 if he hadn't retired. So, eventually, both are great. That's it!

  • @BroomeBlocker4

While I don't deny Bird made everyone on the Celtics better, to say that the players on those Celtics teams weren't great college players or stars in the nba is ridiculous. McHale was all big ten his last two years, Parish made Centenary a ranked team, DJ was a finals mvp with the sonics, ainge won the wooden award, and walton albeit at the end of his career, is probably top 3 college basketball players of all time. The Celtics were absurdly talented, Bird or no Bird.

  • @BroomeBlocker4 It's true Bird won a ring in his second year...Magic in his rookie year...Jordan had to overcome alot of obstacles on his journey to the top...it wasn't easy at all for Mike...he worked like everyone.

  • @BroomeBlocker4 hey for you who is better magic or bird? dont talk about jordan. jordan is initation i hate jordan for me he is not the greatest player of all time for me is MAGIC you?

  • @magicjohnsonist I would give it to Bird, but only because Magic always had the better team, Bird did it the hard way and would of had more pressure on him than Magic.

  • @magicjohnsonist jordan was the best player and always will be just like how noone should be able to beat kareems 35,000 something points in his career if you think hes worse than magic u could play him right now even at his age he could still beat u

  • @BroomeBlocker4 You can't "make" your teammates into HOF'ers. Parish didn't need Bird's help to accomplish that. And Kareem didn't need Magic. These guys had prime teams in the 1980's. Michael Jordan was drafted into a very basic Chicago Bulls lineup in 1984. He didn't have people like Paxson, Cartwright, and Grant to back him up until the 1990's. Obviously Bird is a legend, but you don't have to justify his legacy in such a stupid way. Basketball is for teams. LeBron is a testament to that.

  • @BroomeBlocker4

Funny how your comment has 23 likes =D

  • @hushg2000 I have never....and I mean never in my life met a black man in my life that has given Bird any credit at all. I love talking about basketball and Bird and Magic and Jordan are my three favorite players. Why does the smile leave a black persons face when I bring up Bird? It really makes it hard to get along with people when they run away from the truth which is he is one of the best players of all time.....forget race. His stats and plays were amazing.

  • @hushg2000 No its just black people try to make him seem LESS than he is, thats all. Why dont you go ask Magic Johnson. Do you know what he said? He said: "Larry Bird was so good...its Frightening." Choke on that. Bird DOES have the best IQ ever. It dont matter whether or not you agree with it. It doesnt change the fact. Black people that dont like Bird cuz hes white are just flat out Racists and dont like the idea that a white person can be great at basketball.

  • @NR92CP That's why Jordan is the best, 'cause he is the perfect mix of brain, athletic, charisma and ambition.

  • @NR92CP what about michel jordan, i mean both are legendary and great, but you got to list them all!

  • It would've been raw as fuck if it went through the things that support the shot clock.

  • Bird and Magic were the best.....

  • @JacobReesor how where they the best? they cant move at all

  • @madhaterkid Who is better then ?

  • EPIC. I remember this game like it was yesterday...well ok not yesterday. i live in sf bay area and i remember this was one of those hartford games. that 86 team was untouchable.

  • If i was going to bring my son to a training camp to learn how to play basketball.....i would send him to Larry Bird before Jordan or kobe or Lebron...for the simple reason that i think he understands the game better and could probably teach you more about the science of the game than the other guys who rely heavily on athleticism. oh and Jordan lovers...just realise this..just because Jordan is regarded as the best .....doesn't mean he understands best or would be the best teacher..just sayin

  • "just because Jordan is regarded as the best..doesn't mean he understands best"

Go say that Bird & Magic and watch what they tell U..your argument is so laughable, it really doesn't even bare an elaborate, FACT FILLED response..

  • @blackadam06

im not trying to justify shortcoming of Bird..im simply saying that i think certain elements of the game he performs better than anyone else ..in my opinion......im not saying its a fact....everything in sport is debateable apart from records such as who won most tiles or who scored most points..etc etc...if you wanted to teach a kid how to hit a 3...you wouldn't go to Larry or Jordan...youd prolly go to someone else...like Ray Allen or maybe some other guy...same with any aspect

  • WHat are you talking about Larry Bird won the 3 point shooting contest 3 years in a row ??? Ray allen has won it once ?

  • @JacobReesor Yeah you right Bird may have been better than Ray Allen at 3 point shooting.....but the way he shoots the ball..is sometimes unorthodox and i just think the clean shooting form of Ray Allen would be a better example of how to shoot a ball technically correct..say if you wanted to learn the mechanics of the shot.

of course.......if the ball goes in that is all that counts..and you may have a good point there..........Bird may be > shooter than Ray Allen.

  • I understand what you mean but I think I still would rather learn from Larry. Ray Allen is still amazing thought.

  • yeah totally agree you wwant kids to learn a good form not a crappy one not sayng bird has crappy form

  • @Gal19new86 he has 1300 fewer attempts than reggie and ray allen. Bird was not a 3pt specialist. He could do it all. Just like Mj except better in most categories

  • @Gal19new86 LOL You have to be kidding me. Bird coached the Pacers in that 98 season, Jordan coached the 98 Bulls team, who are we kidding. Jordan came out on top for that remarkable defensive effort in game 7. Yeah, I probably take my son to be coached by Jordan before Bird. Jordan invented Science in basketball, that is why he is considered the BEST. Athleticism?WTF? If that was the case, than the Knicks should have won 4 titles int he 90's. Yeah, let's follow Moises instead of GOD himself.lol

  • @hushg2000 There is only one God and that is Jesus. You and i am sure many others would take your sons to get coached by Jordan. Maybe he would teach more to a kid. But what i meant was that if you rely heavily on athleticism.... then thats not something you can really teach. Wheras a guy with less physical abilities who relies more on skills, moves & tactics....will be able to teach the average person to play the game better. That's why i thought Bird prolly better coach ..but its all opinion.

  • @hushg2000 You gotta be kidding. Are you serious? Jordan was a smart player, true, but not as smart as Bird, not even close. It took him years to learn how to play team ball like Bird and Magic. Jordan is the best all around basketball player but you take away his athleticism and he wouldn't be. Bird didn't have that and he made up for it because of his basketball IQ and he is still considered on of the top five ever. Jordan was smart, but Bird was smarter. A LOT smarter.

  • @trevorh321 Yeah,.. ok,.. Bird was smarter.. you will never win this argument. You say Bird was smarter, I say Jordan was the only player who had every element in the game. 6 rings and taught Basketball to the world,... I will stick to my facts. Good day sir.

  • @hushg2000 Jordan never beat Bird in the eighties....he started winning after the NBA put in the expansion teams and watered down the competition in the league. Jordan grew better as a player in the 90's anyway and would have won because Bird and Magic were getting old. He really started getting better as a player because he learned from Bird and Magic on how to play team basketball.

  • @Flipper79able How about this: Jordan never won when Bird was at his peak, and Bird never won when Jordan was at his peak.

  • @asterisk911 Bird was on his twilight when Jordan hit puberty in the NBA. However, Jordan was still immature, even though he was scoring like crazy, when Bird was at his prime. But in the Playoffs they only met twice, the Celtics swept the Bulls twice in the 1st round.

  • @hushg2000 Jordan was infinitely smart as a player. To say Bird was "smarter" is to betray ignorance of what the word infinite means.

  • @hushg2000 The media never covered half of bird and magic's career. Worlwide recognition was brought to make money. And bird beats jordan in every stat except scoring and steals. Where jordan had 8 FT attempts a game because of gimme calls in the 90's. Bird had 4 FT attempts a game when you had to physically assault someone to get a foul called. Jordan did not face the competition that bird faced in each's prime. No way around that. Worthy said bird was a harder cover than jordan.

  • @hushg2000 And bird averaged 2 steals and 3 blocks in his playofff career. Better 3p% FT% assists, rebounds and bird was injured for 4 years out of his career and he still got all of those numbers with jordan having all the extra years. Championships are a result of teams, era, and competition not individuals.

  • It's not as if Bird didn't have any athletic qualities...i mean the dude was blessed with 6foot 9 inches of height.....but ....in a league of high flying gymnasts with incredible wing spans.......he certainly places high in the "resourcefulness listing"......putting Jordan or Lebron or kobe in the discussion is irrelevant...because your not comparing like with like....they are all gymnasts but Bird plays basketball like a game of Chess. And his mensa level abilities overcome any i have seen.

  • nice one larry u rock he is my fav player in tha nba all tho hes retired :(

  • Bird the smartest basketball mind to play in the NBA.

  • bird had one hell of a mullet that year.

  • CLUTCH.

  • i love that shot because the over the backboard shot is a shot that all basketball players who had just started playing have tried to do that its just a shot that everyone trys to make

  • Larry Bird, the best player ever: he couldn't ran, he couldn't jump, but he kicked everyone's asses.

  • @fansdesofia: truth. no way someone like bird should dominate the nba, but he did. shows just how high his bball iq is, and how much of a killer instinct he had.

its a pity though. if bird were to come into the nba today, he probably wouldnt even get a chance to play because he lacks athleticism. people like stromile swift would get more shine then him. people focus too much on athleticism but forget to pay attention to basketball skills

  • Your a fucking moron, Bird destroyed MJ, Wilkins, Worthy and Rodman and several other hall of famers and they had smarts, the moron players today wouldn't have a chance against Bird they don't even know what a bounce pass is. watch?v=svHk8Zntc5g

  • reading comprehension you FUCKING IDIOT. i'm giving bird the ultimate praise by saying he had no athleticism, but still destroyed the rest of the NBA. that, and today's NBA is whack because it would overlook player's with high skill (like bird) in favor of dudes like tyrus thomas.

  • kobe can do that, he proved it agenst OKC

  • i beleive that you need rings to show whether your good or not, im not saying you need alot of rings to prove your worth just saying you need some to make it debateable, here is my order even though im thee laker fan..jordan=kobe>lebron
