this car is really great and fucking SAFE i am in high school and my dad buyed me a 1990 300e and after a week i was driving home suddenly there was a 2005 toyota avalon going about 80 km and hit me from my side the side window shattered in my face but i swear to god nothing happened to me i highly recommend this car
yeah mercedes makes really great cars, my 1991 190e saved my life. i got in a car wreck on a mountain road and my car was totaled but i got out of the car with only minimal cuts and whiplash. had i been in a shitty honda i would have died. thank you mercedes
@fight341 I also had an accident with an avalon in high school while driving my 1990 300e. I rear ended the avalon (wet road after it rained). I won. ;D
I am looking to trade my 1994 3000gt w/144k miles for a 1992 300e 3.0 w/ 160k miles. The owner says the ac blower motor is bad but everything else works. Its a very clean looking car from the pics. I am supposed to go next week and test drive it. He was going to give it to his son but his son wanted a sportscar instead. I notice the values dont hold very well , why?? Can any1 give me insight on the 300 e v6 3.0?
@sariglenn Mercedes w124 is the last quality built merc, it has the over engineered engineering which were set to a standard and not to a price. from what i know the (inline) 6 cylinders should be as durable as the 4 cylinders only consume more gas. and as it is an older model and a petrol one, it should be low on insurance and taxes. and ac is a very common problem, especially on the 2 zone climate controle or whatever when there are a lot of buttons instead of "wheels", which are better. :)
@coolakiIlen007 I traded for the mercedes and its literally one of the smoothest riding cars ive owned. There is a gas smell and i noticed that the gas cap doesnt seemed to pressurize. Also the brake pad sensor light is on and there is a noise under the right side dash that sounds like a motor running. I cant get it to shut off. It runs constantly. Other than these issues the car has been well preserved inside and out.
@sariglenn sounds great!, surely they cant be devastating for the car´s function, but this noise, does it still sound when the car is shut down? because that sounds unfamiliar to me..
@sariglenn The sound does shut off when I turn off the car. It sounds like a small fan motor and its coming from underneath the right speaker of the dash. Its not very loud but very noticeable if I have the ignition in the accessory position. I cant get any a/c component to kick on so I dont know if the noise is a/c related. And thanks very much for responding. Ive tried looking on forums but to no avail.
@vonKragh I love doing that too mine! It is a little button near the heating controls. A car way ahead of it's time, I have a '91 with only 84000 k! Woot!
@NFreund so your gonna say im wrong, when my dads a mercedes technician, and im also getting in the buisness, and so i my brother, and we have ordered this "none existant" MB-TEX for several customers.
@europe0wnz yes, i do, because there's not only the US marked, and from what i am told, in the US there where no MB-Tex seats available, at least not on the Mopf 1, wich this one is.
This is real leather, in Germany it's called "Echt-Lederausstattung mit perforiertem Mittelteil". I have had MB-Tex and this one, the real leather. It's called also "Taxi-Leather", it's a fabric, a little bit like vinyl.
@NFreund w124's in europe have vinyl seats and arent fully loaded. only car that i know has the option for leather seats is the 2000 S500 and up, and those seats dont last long.
i have the same one but mines does not start... i think there might be something wrong with the fuse switch... The car is missing 2 fuses but the previous owner lost the details and the cover of the fuse box and i cannot locate which fuse is connected to the starter. Do you happen to know which fuse is connected to the starter relay switch?
hey my dad just gave me his old mercedes because my sister is getting her license and i'm giving her my toyota. anyway i was just looking at the car and whatnot, do you know the specs of it? i just know it's a 1990 300e. also coincidentally i was playing with the backrests and i can't figure out how to put them back down, is there a button up front?
I presume you mean headrests, the backrests are either a little wheel on the side of the seat or a switch on the door pannel,to lower the headrests you have to pull the wheel outward slightly then turn it to make them higher or lower.
as i remember theres a button on the dash next to the rear sieling lamp button or so.. long time since i sat in one of those.. want one as first car really bad!
my mom had an '88 300E....old-style interior but in way better shape....odometer stopped at 300k but the car coughed up transmission at probably 500k, literally....about 3 years ago. I miss that car....safe, reliable, comfy, pretty quick.
had one in better condition.....the engine's SUCK in those, never started up right and would die in random places....nice car HORRIBLE engines!!!!If I ever buy another one its getting a TOYOTA engine swap......Sorry guys but its gotta be reliable.
I'd take this anyday over some jap crap rice burner!

It is a 20 year old car. What do you expect? Engines show wear and tear after the first year you own it. Its an engine, not a computer.

@europe0wnz The difference between real leather and MB-Tex, are that the "Stripes" are lengthwise and on the other they are crosswise.

Perhaps a case of poor maintenance and not knowing how the fuel/electronics work? Maintained properly they are very reliable.
